Drugs Live: The Ecstasy Trial - Tonight and tomorrow at 9pm - Channel 4

Just watched the second part and I think that it will do a load of good due to the sheer number of people watching the volunteers taking MDMA and having a great positive time. A couple of people have mentioned the huge dosage that the US therapist gave her patient. I'm pretty sure that since she doesn't have access to pharma grade MDMA that was just a crushed up pill (looked about 200-300mg.) I'm guessing that she probably didn't want to offer her patient some doves or w/e in what was a clinical setting so she just crushed it up and stuck it in a cap.

Joe

Pissed me off that none of the so called experts could agree on anything. Also think they shoulda gone back a couple of weeks later for the same tests on a higher dose, I mean 83mg is ok for some people but it wouldn't touch me, just like it didnt touch Keith Allen. In fact I'd get really irritated cos I'd get that urge to get mashed but only ever be half way there.... Meh!!
The mp gurning in front of the monitor was funny tho, seeing him eating a bag of crisps whilst chewed up however almost made me heave!!

I think a lot of you are under estimating the effects 83mg of pharm grade government lab produced MDMA would have on a new user. 125mg of dutch white powder MD floored me when I had it, and I eat 200mg+ bombs of what I'd still concider very nice crystal.

That sounds like a bullshit hypothesis to me Joe. The large dosage was mentioned because of the effects the drug had on the patient, very obvious effects, not because we tried to eyeball the contents of a cap on the telly.

I used to post here years ago (as sparkle_jez). This show made me become interested in bluelight again. Fucking don't recognise any of you cunts though
Bonjour.

Last night's programme was a lot better than I expected. Extremely positive, and they pretty much debunked the neurotoxicity theory, which even some mods of ADD believe is true. That Parrot cunt is a grade A cock, and they made him look stupid. I hope loads of people watched this, and now have a better understanding of the drug, and a more open mind. Well done, Prof. Nutt and, also, Channel 4 - for the funding.

I do think it was a shame they had it all live, yes the questions from twitter might have been ok and the fact they could get people to do a survey was interesting but I think I would have preferred a way more sciencey documentary. Still, friends have realised that actually not all drugs will fuck you over into poverty and it was good entertainment.

i think you'll find that all participants have sold all their posessions and are asking for spare change from passers by

^Haha. Why are there two threads on this? Mods! (Keep my more informative title) ;)

In terms of dosage when i first started taking E back in 88 we were getting 200mg pills that were pure and taking a 1/2 would have you sweating. feeling really bad, doom laden thougts then just as you thought it cant get any worse whooooosh and you were flying, rush after rush then take the other 1/2.

Lucky bugger

had some green lacoste ones last year, apparently 130 or something, right off my tits when i did too many

I imagine that 83 mg pure MDMA corresponds to a dose of 100 mg MDMA.Hydrochloride (as MDMA is stable as a salt, and Hcl is the most common salt). The ratio of the atomic weights of Hcl and MDMA are around 0.17:0.83 (hence totalling 1, with 17 mg hydrochloride).
When they are measuring the doses, you can see MDMA.HCl written on the bottle. Salts are generally easier to administer for oral consumption.

^^^ I'll just have a cheeky half ;)

Did no one in the trial puke on come up? It's hard for me not to puke.

I thought Prof Nutt was a bit silly saying the 83mg dose was the equivalent to two street tabs.

They said at some part of the show that the average amount of MDMA in the pills seized in Glastonbury was around 40mg, he probably just took his info from there.

I think they should have mentioned a bit more about pipes, with everybody saying pills a few years ago fucked them up, when literally every single pill until like last year were pipes.

Didn't anyone notice they had a section where the drug takers had to do something called the Trust Investment Table?

I know I play the TIT game every time I do MDMA.

^ Ricardo Villalobos? A week tomorrow? Got a ticket? Bet you've not ya cunt. You're always threatening to go to Subby then you go up a mountain instead.

Btw, did you get in on the Sammy Substanz thing? I'm waiting on my membership card haha.

I hope you know what I'm talking about or that'll just seem like total nonsense.

Letter in the Telegraph yesterday

Effects of Ecstasy and clinical MDMA

SIR – I was staggered to hear that Professor Andy C Parrott (Letters, October 8) felt he was not given adequate airtime to express his opinions on Channel Four’s Drugs Live programme. I believe he was given too much exposure.

I am planning Britain’s first clinical study looking at using MDMA-assisted psychotherapy to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I was in the audience at Drugs Live, invited on the show to discuss my project. But I was never spoken to as the presenters repeatedly went back to Prof Parrott for his opinion about “the dangers of Ecstasy”. Perhaps Channel 4 was anxious about appearing soft on drugs.

Prof Parrott looks at recreational Ecstasy users and describes minute, sub-clinical neurocognitive changes in his subjects. Those of us who work with patients know that despite 25 years of Ecstasy use in Britain, with some 30 million doses of Ecstasy taken recreationally every year, the levels of mortality and morbidity from this drug remain very low indeed. The massive epidemic of casualties we were promised back in 1988 simply has not happened.

Prof Parrott demonises the medicine MDMA because he sees – quite rightly – that the illegal drug Ecstasy has its risks. But recreational Ecstasy is not the same thing as clinical MDMA. Clinical MDMA, carefully prescribed under supervised conditions, could alter the course of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – a disorder that is desperately in need of novel and creative approaches to treatment.

Good man. And in the Telegraph too. (I got it free with a bottle of water at Victoria station - honest)
