Withdrawals from Alprazolam? How bad?

So this is my first real post and i hope to learn a lot from this forum. Unfortunately my first post is a question lol. So i've been taking about 3mg of Alprazolam a day for the past couple months. It started out with me taking 2 blues before bed but within the past month i've started to take 3. I know this is gonna get worse. I've been thru oxy/methadone/heroin withdrawal in the past and am now on sub maintenance. If i just stop right now will i go through bad withdrawals? I didn't take it for one day about a week ago and other than getting no sleep i didn't feel that bad. Maybe it was because of the suboxone. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Chris.

Yes.
You need to taper off them with the help of a doctor.
Don't stop xanax cold turkey.
There are plenty of threads that will answer your question properly. (just do a search).

Should've probably done a search first. I was thinking about just tapering down. I can deal without any sleep that's not a huge issue. I'll do some more research. Thanks for the response lettuce.

No problem.

Basically the danger isn't the sleep issues, it's the physical withdrawal that can cause seizures and other nasty stuff.
Knowledge is power, so keep reading about this and hopefully you will get the answers to make quitting xanax as realistic and comfortable as possible.

I'm sure a moderator could help out with a link to a relative thread.

Ya man, Your going to go thru withdrawals. Thats about how much I was taking when they detoxed me in the psychward. I started to hear things. No sleep. Stressing over everything and when I went to see my doc He put me on klonopin that has help quite abit.

my 0 cents alprazolam/Xanax being such a short acting benzo will give you serious rebound anxiety... possibly seizures.... you have been taking them long though and the dose is very high (6mg you're taking atm?), just about long enough to longer actng Half-life benzo taper IMHO (do this "with" your doctor) schedual if you want to taper.... my 0 c

Alprazolam (Xanax) and Temazepam were the worst withdrawals i have ever experienced, nothing comes close.

Best of luck :)

Resurrecting this thread because i can't find the other one i started. I did not mention i've been one 8mg Suboxone a day. Not sure if that would help at all with the withdrawal. The suboxone i'll be staying on until i'm finished the taper.

Here's your other thread.

Your still relatively in the early stages of benzo addiction (considering the few months, and dosage you described) But just to be on the safe side you might want to get a doctor taper down, which some doctors don't even do sadly.
