In the Announcements forum, there's this post with an example ("[media=youtube]eOUq4Z6R7xI[/media]")... When I get rid of the "guts" of the code and insert my link, it defaults to the demo video. I'm not code-savvy but I'm thinking it has something to do with the "video=" part of the code... Why not just use the example of "[video]YouTube URL here[/video]"?
note, in the example that the reference 'eOUq4Z6R7xI' appears twice. those have to match.
in your example, you have 'eOUq4Z6R7xI' in the tag and 'vzgLJmYN91Q' in the url.
you can certainly enter:
[video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqYibZeafg8[/video]
if you like (or use the video button) - the code will be parsed into:
[media=youtube]rqYibZeafg8[/media]
by bluelight when you post it.

Ahah, interesting--I did not know they had to match (thought the first bit was something that was needed for the BBCode), and I also just realized (with the help of your post ;)) that BL automatically parses the code into having that "extra stuff."

Ahh, gotcha. Thought you couldn't figure out why it wasn't working there or something.
this is just a trial. the forums included in the trial were selected because it's relatively easy to draw a line between the subject matter of the forums and the kind of video content that will be posted in those forums using this new feature.
we did receive requests for including the lounge and regional forums in this trial but the spectrum of subjects covered by those forums is hugely wide and it was harder to make a case for this feature being of the same kind of benefit.
if you'd like to make a case for the availability of this feature to be widened to include the lounge, this would be the place to do it.

the lounge is full of bitter, jaded cranks longing for the 'good old days'. video won't help that.

The Bluelight staff has discussed this already and has good reason for allowing it in certain forums while not allowing it in others.

I'm lurking the lounge at work, and someone embeddes some inappropriate video. Nudity or whatever is seen on the cover screen of the video. That's just one scenario where allowing embedded videos in the Lounge would be hurting someone.
It would be a nightmare to moderate since all of the content of the videos would need to conform to the guidelines, so mods would have to view all videos from beginning to end to be sure of that. That's why we only allow them on certain forums where there is less of a chance of videos against guidelines being posted.
The top priority of this website is harm reduction. We allow embedded video in the forums that promote this to make videos containing HR info easier to view. Other areas of the site that we are allowing it are forums where videos are commonly linked already, and have not caused problems for the moderators.

Yeah The Lounge has been sucking too much as it is
All kinds of stupid videos posted every where would just bring the quality of the lulz and what not down considerably I think
I still don't know whether I like it in NEMD, takes a lot more scrolling, but you can see how it works better there because people will only be posting music videos

anyways i thought it was only youtube videos you can embed, which is 0 nudity allowed.
