I have been prescribed ambien for nearly 2 years. I don't take it nightly, but usually a couple times a week. My current dose is now 30mg up from my starting dose 2 years ago of 10mg.

30mg is hardly enough to induce sleep and I find some nights ill feel nothing and have to take another 20mg.

Two nights ago I took my normal 30mg at 11pm and sat on my couch to read for a bit until I was feeling relaxed and ready for bed. Sitting down is the last thing I remember.

I haven't had amnesia sense the first couple times taking it. Even at 100mg I was able to recall most of my time on it and able to function well enough. I was certainly altered, but not to the point of delious uncontrollable thought/behavior.

I recall little bits and pieces of the night, and was also told by my friend about what happened.

I apparently called my buddy at 11:30 saying I wanted to go to meijers and get a carrot cake (I hate carrot cake). He came and got me shortly after. I vaguely remember getting in the car and being very confused. I thought other people were in the vehicle and couldn't focus on anything.

My friend said I was seeing double and complaining about a cat sitting on me.

Long story short, he didn't take me anywhere, instead took me inside and told me to sleep. He left shortly after.
I finially woke up at 10am laying on a wooden cross bridge over a little creek a few miles from my house. I have no memory of how I got there. I also walked the entire way without shoes and a sinlgle sock.

Why did I get so horribly messed up from my normal dose? I didn't consume any other substances and cant say there have been any changes in my nutrition/exercise or medications.

I don't want this to happen again. If I intended to get that messed up I would be ok with it, but I don't want to end up in the woods again when I just want some sleep.

Maybe you don't remember taking more tablets. My mom used to get "ambien amnesia" and she had taken the same dose since the '90's. But mixing it with vodka I believe caused her lapses of memory.

I thought that could be the case, my first time taking ambien I remember taking 1 and in the morning 4 were missing.

However this wasnt the case, I filled the prescription Wednesday, 90 10mg tablets. I checked in the morning to see if I took an extra dozen, but 87 remained.

Right. I would say that this was not an "out of ordinary" effect of ambien, rather an extremely ordinary one. This is what ambien does if you don't lay down and attempt to sleep. There is no telling why your body reacted differently than usual this time....it could have been hormonal, situational, etc etc.

It sure is crazy all of the weird things that can happen when zonked on ambien, though!

I meant out of the ordinary for me. I wouldnt expect such strong effects from the same dose I have been regularly taking for two years.

you shouldnt be sitting around waiting for it to kick in. by that time its already too late. should really take it as you get into bed and lay there until you sleep. anything else can cause you to have an adventure youll never remember

i agree with all the above here - ambien is a strange one. i would routinely take 10/20mg every night, but if i wasn't in bed when i'd taken it oh boy, i would do crazy shit.

I understand that you should take ambien and get in bed, and I do appreciate and agree with that advice. However that's not the answer to my question. I want to know why I would possibly have such a strong response unlike any ive had to ambien even with higher doses.

lmao, is there a thread for ambien induced amensia adventures? shit is hilarious, but seriously, don't wait until it kicks in lol , maybe during ur blackout u snuck into the liquor cabinet or something lol
