A DRUG addict doctor injected his wife with heroin – then watched as she passed out and struggled for breath.

GP Ashley Sibery persuaded wife Sital to try the drug after she confronted him about his secret habit.

Within minutes, she collapsed and lost consciousness.

An ambulance crew managed to stabilise Sital’s breathing before taking her to hospital.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, Sibery, 39, admitted injecting his wife with heroin.

The court heard that Sital had earlier challenged her husband over his erratic behaviour.

When he admitted he had been using heroin for two months, she threatened to end the marriage unless he gave up the drug.

Despite the ultimatum, Sibery managed to persuade Sital into taking what was supposed to be his final fix.

The court heard how Sibery wanted his wife to experience the feeling he got from heroin. Depute procurator fiscal Karen Rollo said: “Bizarrely, he asked her if she wanted to try some.

“He told her that he had a small quantity of heroin remaining in the house and that he would give her it.

“He wanted her to experience the drug, to see what it was like. The heroin was then prepared and it was injected into her.

“Within a few minutes, she collapsed and lost consciousness. She started to have breathing difficulties.

“An ambulance was then called. The paramedics who attended the scene recognised him as being a doctor.”

What is the recommended IV dose for a heroin virgin?

I understand that recreational opiate injection is never safe, but I ask on behalf of those who are gonna do it anyway. For the record, I've only ever started my wives on snorted heroin.

OK I will let everyone in on a not-so-unknown secret: Doctors are MASSIVE consumers of drugs. MANY are alcoholics and addicts!

My dad is a doctor and he's always been a massively heavy drinker but I found his "leaving booklet" from medical school and one interesting part was they had taken a poll on drug use during medical school and, I wish I could remember the exact figures but I remember about 20% (!) had tried heroin. And this is at a top Australian medical school! :|

Subsequently I've hung around other medical students and they're nearly all heavy users of meth (to study), ecstacy, and nearly all of them are hardcore alcoholics. The meth use amongst medical students at my university got so bad that there were articles in the student newspaper warning about the legal consequences (lol).

So yeah. Doctors love getting messed up. I think they almost feel entitled to.

The dose for naive users of heroin is likely in the single-milligram range if injected. I certainly wouldn't want to exceed about 2.5mg.

5mg of oxycodone/morphine can make some individuals very sick. If he had injected anything more than a few grains of good quality horse he should have seen this coming...

He's a fucking doctor! How could he fuck up dosing narcotics when that's a part of his job? Or how could he not revive her?

He should have had her smoke or snort it her first time. Even then I don't think it'd help his wife understand why he likes heroin so much. First time users usually get pretty sick.

^ Probably even best if he didn't pressure her into trying it at all. He sounds like a very incompetent doctor, I agree.

Well, you sound like a captain obvious with that ;)

Young people try and explore everything, hard drugs included of course and honestly medical students sound about the least surprising group of users (OK, maybe after art students, show me a painter or musician who doesn't take anything), what actually surprised me a bit that even among engineering students hardcore alcoholism is an absolutely common thing. Like people who drink 5 bottles of vodka during friday and saturday. At least in central europe, but then again everybody drinks here lol.

Anyway the story is quite interesting, wondering how he didn't guess appropriate dose as a doc.

From reading it seems that a lot of drug epidemics start within the medical profession, then spreads to artist, to other intellectuals, to the rich and famous, then to the regular folks where it then gets a stigma when it hits the underclass.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I don't understand his reasoning behind this. "I wanted her to experience it."

That's all well and good, but he shouldn't have given her such a potent shot since she's a virgin IV user! He should know this because he's a doctor, no? He should be fully aware of the consequences, doses, etc. And another question, did he truly want her to get addicted or did he just want to get her high? I wouldn't wish drug addiction on anyone -- anyone who has been addicted to drugs knows that it can be a nightmare. The physical, emotional, and monetary strains it places on someone is terrible. Not only is that awful "medical advice", but that's being an awful husband if he wanted to get her addicted to drugs...pretty cruel if you ask me.

I feel like he may have tried to get her to do it so she'd get hooked and let him continue to use. The entire plan was terrible but the worst part was the fact that he injected her with it.

As far as doctors go, they have access to whatever pharmaceuticals they want really.

That's so incredibly selfish of him. "Hey I'm addicted to drugs and I want you to know what I go through so I'm taking it upon myself to inject you with a highly addictive substance". I don't understand what runs through these people's minds...it's a sick world.

I wouldn't try to get someone I love hooked on drugs.
