Benzos Alprazolam = useless?

Ok so I got my hands on a free script of 60 xanax tabs (0.5mg). I inteded on useing them for 2 purposes... 1: to help with oxy withdrawal when my monthly supply runs out like ususal. And 2: To get a recreational affect every now and then (and sometimes to potenate the oxy). I am completely benzo-naive, so here are my results:

1: After my oxys ran out i took 1.5mg of Xanax. The outcome was my hot/cold sweats increased drastically. I felt VERY heavy to the point where I didnt even want to give it the effort to walk. I got no 'body high' whatsoever and as tired as I was, I could not fall asleep because of the severe withdrawal pains and cold/sweats.

2: I took 2mg of Xanax orally (not in any oxy withdrawals). I felt very heavy, walking felt like a mission. When I got myself into a comfortable position in bed I did notice that the bed did feel about twice as comfortable than it usually does, but I did not feel any sedation or euphoria. I watched some TV while sitting up in my bed, then woke up then next morning and couldnt remember what I was watching on TV the night before.

3: I took 1.5mg of Xanax to (hopefully) potenate 45mg of oxy. I first took the Xanax orally, then 20 minutes later I snorted 45mg of oxy. The rush from the oxy was exactly the same, but the nod was DOUBLE of what it normally is. I passed out within 30 minutes and woke up with minor oxy withdrawal.

Are these the normal effects of Alprazolam? I feel like they are way overrated. Theres so much talk about Xanax being such a great recreational drug from people both on the internet and in real life, but I just dont see whats so great about it. Any input?
 
Alprazolam comes in several different strengths and routes of administration. You may not have what's best for your situation. Also, don't believe everything you read or hear about it. (Don't believe everything you hear or read period.)

Benzos aren't always indicated for opiate withdrawals as I understand them. I have used oxycontin with xanax and for me it was just a waste of xanax.

Xanax does not give me a body high... more like a body low. I get couch lock from several mg of alprazolam but nothing is funny, like weed couch lock.

You stand the risk of depressing your system to the point of overdose and even death. Please don't take your benzos with your opiates.

you can get intoxicated but there's definitely a lack of euphoria compared to opiates. It's hard to realize you are high on benzos, even when you can't walk and are slurring your words. Sometimes i do feel pretty good on benzos but for me it's really hit or miss and depends on my anxiety levels before hand. Most of the time it just ruins my opiate buzz.
 
Valium had a vague euphoria for me. Moreso than any other benzo. I have successfully used benzos for many years to come down, but often it was to come down from an emotional upset I couldn't or wouldn't handle. I have also used benzos to mellow out from shrooms, e, stimulants, even too much sativa. Most importantly though, life can be a real fucking whore, and that is when a few mg of benzo are worth more than gold.
 
Benzos make you go from feeling bad to feeling very little on an emotional level. Opiates take any mood and make it seem much better. By and large either can get you messed up, but benzos don't really accomplish it in the euphoric way.

Also a note of caution, even if you are opiate tolerant, with no benzo tolerance whatsoever, mixing the two can cause very dangerous respiratory depression.
 
Listen to above posters - you should be very careful taking benzos with opiates. You can die from this easily. Xanax is tricky in the aspect that one day it can knock you down and the same dose next day you barely notice. It sneaks up on you too. I could take .25 mg and feel nothing 3 hours later. So take another .25 and I would wake up all groggy the next morning. Better just using the oxy without the xanax

I agree with this 100%. I consider them landing gear for stims and psycs. Other then that they are used infrequently to deal with those shitty days life can throw at you. The important thing is to keep use very infrequent, i would say no more then 2x a week but the less the better.

Benzos are one thing I always keep around because they can be miracle drugs when someone is looking their shit on another substance.

Done expect to get high but I do find the effects pleasant when done very infrequently. 1mg of alprazolam or etizolam allows me to just chill out and relax for an evening and forget about work or plans for a short while.
 
Honestly I have never been a huge fan of benzos...not to say if I was offered any type I wouldn't seize the opportunity. For me I use them more like people said to come down off other things or simply just to relax and get a good night sleep. I mean you definitely feel good and calm but there is no real "euphoria" for me. I have seen some of my friends fall in love with them just like I fell in love with opiates so obviously some people find them euphoric. As for the specifics I was never a fan of alprozolam at all. In fact I find it kind of useless due to it's short lasting effects. I enjoy the longer lasting ones like clonazepam to really chill me out for a night. Valium is nice as well.
 
i love xanax, i mean love it. its a great drug to get high on, whoever says its not has no clue what there talking about. if your not feeling much, up the dose 1 mg at a time and see how you feel. i think a bar would do you nice.

Benzos are not a drug to be abused.

When you start taking drugs, sooner or later you will need it for a medical purpose. If you jack your tolerance up using it recreational then when you need it it will not work or you will need a crazy dose.

Benzo dependancy is one that can kill you during wd's. So be careful.

I couldn't agree more, especially about the tolerance thing.
Maybe you're in a rather good place, OP? You're probably quite a bit better off trying something like this and not caring for it than the other extreme, ya know?
I am prescribed Alprazolam for sleep issues and occasional anxiety, and take it on a fairly regular basis (usually 1-2mg @ bedtime).
I find that I easily take this drug for granted. I don't take it in order to get high at all.... but when I run out the withdrawals are terrible. 1 of the worst things I go through is the feeling that my throat is closing up. all the muscles in my neck and throat tighten up and I get terrible headaches. I can't relax in a number of ways, and I wind up feeling like I've taken way too many stimulants or something. NO sleep.
for me, it is very helpful ....but I think I notice its absence a bit more than its presence, if that makes sense.
 
A lot of people who don't have experience with benzo's in general are considerably let down by their first experience, myself included.

I, like many before, consider benzo's to be more of a utilitarian substance, to be used in conjunction with other substances to either potentiate desired effects (opiates) or alleviate negative effects (comedowns etc.). A Xanax bar is not enough to cut loose, party, or have the night of your life. There are subtle differences in potency, duration, and effects between benzo's but they all have those same BASIC qualities.

They are sedatives. At a lower dose, they will rid you of some mild/moderate anxiety, and at higher doses will just knock you the fuck out. The issue is that for most, there is little to no euphoria associated with benzo's (although xanax is frequently cited as being one of the more euphoric ones). You won't get high, you'll just get fucked up.

So anyway, you can't really expect miracles from Xanax, but at the dose you're taking, it can help a ton with W/D's. I hope this helps!
