Metallic Taste From Zipiclones And Zopoclone

hey all :)

i've recently started taking zipiclones (i think thats how its spelt) and have noticed a AWFUL metallic taste in my mouth and throte. taking a drag of a ciggie or a sip of water tastes fucking awful and would somtimes last until the next day.the only thing that seems to hide the taste is black coffee. i have stoped taking it due to this.im just wondering what does this mean?and should i not use this type of medication?as i've talked to people who have had this medication and have not experienced any metallic taste at all...

i think it is a fairly common side effect, but i have no idea how it is caused.
sounds horrible though...
 
i've been taking zopiclone every night lately, great for sleep, i still get a yucky taste in my mouth the morning after but you get used to it and it's not so bad, just avoid milk after it kicks in. I kind of like the taste as i know when it's starting to kick in and when to go lay down. I think it only happens to half the people who take it.
 
I get this a bit, and have taken this medication extensively. I think some people get it worse than others judging by others posts on bluelight.

I have noticed that it diminishes when you start taking it more regularly. I don't even notice it now, and actually notice the weird taste valium gives me alot more. I think it would be some sort of effect of GABA in the brain, no idea of what the exact mechanism is though.
 
Be careful with zopiclone folks you can get hooked on them and they can give nasty long term issues. They claim they are not as bad as benzos but they are equally as bad.

If you are having issues with sleep I would advise melatonin as a suppliment replacement.

The metalic taste is an interesting one.

I currently suffer from a long term MDMA comedown and have a metalic taste in my mouth all the time.

I am currently only taking supps no meds. I dont think this is caused by the supps.

I was thinking back to when I took LSD only twice in my life. Both times it gave me a very very strong metalic taste in my mouth.

I think its something in the brain causing it. It may even be something to do with your taste senses messed up.

Very interesting post and would be interested to know if someone knows more.
 
^do you have experience with zopiclone dependence? for me, it's really nothing like a benzo. My girlfriend has also been using zopiclone for almost a year and can switch to benadryl for a night or more and fall asleep fine. My tolerance never goes up either. I think it's essential not to abuse it but other than it's apparent carcinogenic properties i don't really have much of a problem with taking zopiclone even every night and then not taking it.

Yes i got hooked on it for a while. I was taking it during the day longside a tricyclic it made me feel good for some reason.

I am not the norm as i suffer from ocd, anxiety etc so I might not be the best reference source for people.

It is a concern however and physical dependance is very possible. On the basis it is a Z drug some claim it is not physically addictive but I would disagree with this. I think in many ways it is worse than benzos.

I cannot take it any more my body became allergic to it. I get tics if I take it which are very frightening and horrible.

Like I say I am not the norm but just something to put out there and warn people not to underestimate this drug.

Like with MDMA if you use it sensibley i will be fine but if you abuse it you could face some nasty problems.

Got to agree, at least for me personally. I was prescribed stilnox and zopliclone for 8 months and took it every night, often in doses exceeding 3 tablets, and then redose when I awoke. i couldn't sleep due to stress and writing a thesis. as soon as the thesis was done, I stopped taking the meds and within 3 days was sleeping like a baby. No withdrawal effects, and I familiar with the ones caused by benzos. maybe a bit of rebound insomnia - that was all.

however, my experience is only my own. some people may become physically dependent on them and go through withdrawal similiar to benzos. So don't take them regularly.
 
thanks for the info people :) at least now i know im not allergic to this sort of medication.i dont get any funny tastes off stillnox but have had some awful experiences with it.kind of hard to explane but the best way i could put it was a dmt trip from hell that seemed to last for hours then waking up with full blown open eye visuals not knowing where the fuck i was how i got there was a awful shock to wake up to! after a few seconds the visuals went away and i came to my senses.maybe Z drugs arnt for me?i aint planing on taking zip to get to sleep anytime soon as i've got my benzos on daily dosing so i wont run out but if for some reason i do i know im safe to take a zip to get to sleep but fuck that taste is awful!!!!
