2012 - 2013 Football Thread

I'll be at Ashton Gate for the visit of Blackburn in a couple of weeks got my ticket today .

£26 . BTW . I get it at half price though £13 wwhich is fantastic . When i spoke to the ticket office today they seemed to think it is going to be a sell out or close.
The tickets go up to £30 tomorrow .

I'll be in the away end, please tell me it's standing! First time to Ashton Gate, well excited! Getting close to 100 different English grounds now!

Not particularly wanting to get drawn into a discussion about this but just wanted, on the one hand to express my absolute delight for the families of the 96 that the truth (as opposed to the S*n's 'THE TRUTH') is finally, and indisputably, out there for all to see regarding the Hillsbrough disaster ( a match I would have attended had circumstances not conspired against).

On the other hand I would like to express my sheer, utter and total contempt for those who conspired to blacken the names of those who survived and of those who died - disgusting. We (Liverpool fans) have always known that there was a cover up, but even so I am today astounded at the scale of it....the conspiracy between certain media outlets and South Yorkshire Police which we have always suspected is today confirmed....164 altered police statements!!!!! Absolutely seething, cannot read anymore about it or speak about it for a while, JesusfuckingH.

The truth is out today, justice is visible on the horizon at long last.

Thatcher's tories, her thug police and assorted media cronies - FUCK YOU. I sincerely hope the time is coming when the illegal treatment dished out to the miners and to the travellers (which i witnessed first hand) will also be brought back under the spotlight.

I'm unsure what to make of the news today. We've all known for years that there has been a cover up of police incompetence and we've all known for years that the victims were not to blame, nothing in that sense has changed.

Is that justice? Now that it's official? Can this tragedy be put to bed considering we've learned the lessons from that awful day? This is where it gets messy for me - the JFT96 campaign to me at least, wants a criminal conviction for certain individuals of the SYP. I don't see how this is achievable. The JFT96 campaign want the conclusion of accidental death overturned. Again, I don't see how.

The Leppings Lane end was a tragedy waiting to happen. For whatever reason, the precursors came together to make the tragedy happen on that day. There are far too many of those precursors to bring criminal convictions against individuals who could either look on and watch people get crushed outside the ground or try to do something about it. Who knows, there may have been more deaths outside the ground if no action had been taken?

Let's just move on now, please. Let the dead rest.

Agreed on that .

41 people were pronounced dead when they weren't fucking dead man. Purely because of the emergency services inability to cope. This needs screaming from the rooftops. A civilised society demands it.

Sheff Weds knew that Hillsborough wasn't in the right state to stage a Semi Final they admitted it ...

Purely because of the emergency services inability to cope
you know that theirs more to it than that , one of the biggest cover ups Ever.

Not sure what you mean here Brimz. Yes of course there's more to the story, the deceit and lies of Thatcher, the South Yorkshire police (who a few years earlier had battered striking miners at Orgreave), MPs, the press.....but the simple fact remains that 41 people were pronounced dead when they weren't fucking dead. For me this is the most base, vile thing about it all.

Along with taking the blood of a dead 10yr old boy to test for alcohol, desperate to taint the innocent victims. The document reveals a cover up of immense proportions. I had a personal involvement today and We are so thankful for the support from normal, decent and sincere supporters from all clubs and walks of life. This could of been any club in any city. Families waved their children, dads, mums, brothers, sisters and friends off to go to a football match. 96 never returned.

SHM I'm not sure if you remember a few years ago but I got into a heated debate on here about this very subject. It was with some tool who called himself Karabjoudan (sp). He thought it was hilarious to continually post a picture of innocent people being crushed against a fence, dying. You and a few others supported me then and this is to let you know I appreciate it. I still lurk occasionally and I always enjoy reading your posts.

Without wanting to sound dramatic, this has been a day of vindication. The next few months will reveal the full horror of this travesty.

I am proud that people never gave up.

Justice for the 96.

No problem Quad, and nice to see you around. And nice to see someone actually reads the shit I write, I knew there was a reason for it somewhere.....

:)

Finally some small justice for the 96 after 23 years. The police are cunts for covering up the truth but it wouldnt be the first time

Forgot to mention that. RIP. Sadly the police will not do the right thing, neither will Thatcher, neither will the FA, neither will the media (most of them) and neither will every scumbag that jumped on that sickening bandwagon. I heard some twerp blaming terraces AGAIN the other day! Terracing is not a sin, and I will stand tomorrow and at every match I ever attend whether seated or terraced.

As regards the massacre at Sheffield Wednesday, heads won't roll OF COURSE. But by Christ they should! Say what you like about the Germans, Italians, Spaniards, French and Dutch but their own Uniteds, Citys, Chelseas, Liverpools, and Aresenal etc. a lot of them have huge amounts of terracing and guess what? Whether you want to sit or stand or will still pay around a 1/3 of the JOKE prices of the Premier League. Best league my a**e.

Thank God I have nothing to do with it anymore! £60 for an away ticket at Arsenal, United, City or Chelsea to "sit" (if you can fit you legs in) to be shouted out for standing up, filmed by police for wearing certain clothing, not served beer. ABSOLUTE JOKE! The Taylor Report was an utter f**k up, and I believe it is entirely to blame for the creation of these 'bowl' type stadiums: St. Mary's, Stadium of Light, The Emirate's, The Walker's...the list is endless.

All it has done is create large amounts of money for sell out clubs via 'sponsored' stadiums; and the rise in ticket price is justified by better surroundings, better facilities, better seating, better segregation. Better my a**e!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For us real fans: the ones that make the players want to play for us, travel round europe and england on buses, sing through half time, actually suck goals in (yes it does happen!). Why we love football is for 3 fold:

1) We love the club (it's my only tattoo)
2) It's a belonging thing so it's about our team versus them. We are part of a group that day, a very special united group.
3) And this is different: Our fans v their fans. Not in a violent why but in a tribal, very basic emotion of competitiveness. Our mammalian brains crave this and in the confines of an arena it becomes super charged. Turn a stadium into a bloody basketball arena and as the passion goes the cringey music arrives and the us v them things goes. In a bowl, where do you turn? RIP atmosphere.

It's terrible that our club (Blackburn) are suffering internally at the moment and the horrible situations are causing in fighting, but I guarantee you that tomorrow we will sell out (or there about's) and bring life to a working man's hobby, a hard worker's holiday.

Blackburn Rovers travel to Ashton Gate tomorrow, one of the excellent grounds that still stands proudly, like our own Ewood Park, as one of the four sided (no filled in corners) dimension that creates such a superb, memorable and exhilarating experience for the tax payer.

RIP The Hillsborough 96<3 RIP JACK Walker<3 RIP proper football in this country. Just look our national squad...
