Extraction of DMT, just making sure I'm not doing anything dangerous!

Hi,
First time extracter..I am an experienced biochemist but want to do this on as little budget as possible..I'd rather buy my sodium hydroxide from a chem suppliers etc but am wondering would anybody shed any light on ANY possible issues with using caustic soda?
 
I'm not a chemical expert*, but sodium hydroxide would be NaOH right? If that's the chase, than most of the TEKs out there use it. It should be fine.

*Though I plan on extraction as soon as there is some money in my pockets, so I've read all there is to know about extractions and the like. Looking at Mesc. extraction too. (this uses NaOH as well!)

buy you lye from a chem supplier or home depot, makes little matter as none should end up in your final product.

Best stick to B&Q to be honest - the police might take an interest in you buying caustic soda from chem suppliers.

Yes - avoid caustic soda coming into contact with anything aluminium, it will burn right through it.
 
Lye is very good for the tek, but at the same time very dangerous as it will raise the PH and create a caustic solution. There is also sodium carbonate (washing soda not baking soda, which is bicarbonate). If you are only extracting 100-200 gram amounts I would recommend using dehydrated lime (calcium hydroxide). It works VERY well and I have never had caustic burn from touching the goopey like solution. Look at q21q21 teks here. It helped me make a good few grams of DMT.

Edit: Also avoid canning jars as they easily crack when they get to hot as well as make sure you use pyrex glass. I honestly was using a pyrex measuring cup with tinfoil on top to prevent shit from falling in with my ghetto cup in pot covered in tinfoil with holes for solvent to escape heating method as well as a pyrex bowl to freeze precipitate and evap. Not lab grade, but it was better than nothing.

Stainless steel is acceptable as well, but unless it is high quality there might be aluminum somewhere on it as well as possible coating. Pyrex glass is awesome as it is super easy to clean (solvent or throw it in the dishwasher) as well as handle in my opinion. You cant go wrong with pyrex especially if you spring for lab grade.
