Harm Reduction Micron Filtered Solutions - Application of Benzyl Alcohol

Theoretically...

I made a solution using a single 50mg hydroxyzine hcl (atarax) tablet, and 10mL of bacteriostatic NaCl. I micron filtered it, it is completely clear.

Theoretically... it sat around for an entire month. I want to use it now.

My gut instinct tells me as I prefer 1 to 4 mg IM (not IV!) I should add extra benzyl alcohol. I have a 50mL vial of benzyl alcohol.

Knowing 9 units is 0.9% of 10mL, should I just add another 9 units of benzyl alcohol?

I am still young (despite the fact I have moderated Other Drugs for years) and would like to figure out what to do here. I have plenty of harm reduction supplies and am interested in how to best apply them for my purposes.

My gut instinct tells me too much benzyl alcohol shouldn't be a problem for IM use when I'm only adding another 9 units to the vial (theoretically).
 
don't worry about adding too much, the only consequence is a burning sensation (in the area you shoot) but i have iv'd 50/50 benzyl alcohol / sterile water a few times to shoot phenazepam when i had no propylene glycol and used the benzyl alcohol to dissolve it. but just be weary that when i did that it made the water white and not see through after a couple days sitting in the fridge in a air tight vial, i donno what causes that but adding heat makes it go away lol.. good luck.

ive still got half a 100ml vial of benzyl alcohol sitting in my fridge, only my second one in all these years.. shit lasts forever since you need so little.

EDIT: remember though, benzyl alcohol doesn't kill bacteria, it only prevents more from forming.. so adding more into your solution is only making it last longer, i know isopropyl IS NOT safe to IV at large doses but i suggest adding 10 units or so of it to kill any bacteria that has grown over time of it sitting around (even if it was in the fridge) the 10 units isn't enough to hurt you as long as it is spread throughout the solution. it is just adequate enough to kill some bacteria that has grown in the bacteriostatic water (if any has).

No one has anything else to add? OK. HOOD did a good enough job replying anyways.

If I had medical grade isopropanol, I'd do that HOOD but... I can't say I'm too thrilled about the idea of adding isopropanol with impurities into my muscle. Of course bacteria isn't any better...

The solution is still all clear. Also I hadn't actually let all 10mL sit around, I've used over half of it so far, I just want the other 30 to 40 percent to still be usable.
 
I add IPA to all my cotton rinses (IV) now, even old cottons (3 years old once), and have never gotten cotton fever ever since I started doing that.
I can't say for sure it will sterilize a potentially contaminated solution, so don't take this as fact, but so far it hasn't let me down.
 
I usually make it no more than 10% of the solution, and if you stay in your vein, you barely even notice it. I never tried it IM, so I don't know how that will feel.

( I IV'd vodka when I had some fentanyl pads, and even that was bareable if you stay in the vein. )

I am not judging you at all, but I couldn't bring myself to do anything like that.

I'm glad you're living and breathing. Your veins still there too?
 
Desperate times.... you know. Better to add a little IPA than to get cotton fever. The fentanyl/vodka was a one time thing during a drought.
I still have some veins left. BTH and pills seem to do more damage than a few drop of IPA. Glad to be back on the east coast(no BTH), and been of H for about a month anyway. Not 100% clean, but arms are sure feelin better.

I need some advice....does anyone know how many times u can use a micron filter before replacing it with a new one? Thanks
 
oh cool thanks for the advice......im trying to do everything the safe way....sterile water, alcohol prep pads, micron filter, etc...
 
I used NY/NJ stamp dope for my first 3 years, not one absess or any complications. Didn't scar or bruise much either.
I had more problems and did more damage in the first few months with the BTH than I did in years back east. That stuff is just horrible.

@Paulymorphone As far as I know, a micron filter is meant for single use. Try and make as large a batch as possible and store it in an airtight container using bacteriostatic water (1% benzy alcohol).
And remember alcohol wipes BEFORE injection and don't reuse/share anything.
 
Alright so I got cotton fever three times in a row despite my best technique:

Wash all non-sterile utensils; rinse with alcohol and allow to dry. Should I be using bleach after the soap.. ensure the removal of any remaining pathogens? Then rinse with water, then alcohol?
Use fresh sharps.
Swab injection site with alcohol and allow to dry.

Micron filter. 0.22um, used prior to the first infection. I even used a 0.1um before my third incident.

The solution itself was created with bacteriostatic water, but by the time the first bout of fever got to me, it had sat at room temperature for about four days. Is that too long?

I'm considering adding benzyl alcohol to all my solutions now. It's synergistic with NaCl bac. water, right? And the isopropyl doesn't sound unreasonable either. It would evaporate slightly in the storage vial anyway, right? So each time air exchange happens, those vapors are released and you effectively lower the concentration?

How about heating the solution? I imagine methylphenidate is pretty stable but whenever I go to look these properties up I get conflicting information from different databases.

I just can't deal with this.. each time got worse because my immune system went into hyperdrive.

I can't understand it either; pills are generally cleaner, all my equipment was sterile and my immune system is usually pretty relaxed as far as response to infection goes..

Any insight/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to pseudo-hijack! How did you theoretically fare with your aged solution, Cap'n?
