A walk through Missouri's valley of meth

I've seen bathrooms owned by people who don't even use any illegal drugs at all that are way worse and a lot more dirty and nasty than the so called meth lab/meth house bathroom.

Yikes.

Erm, I'll go look for an outhouse.

Edit - found one:

HELLO World! Hello poop!

Yeah it was that nasty. I've been in campground bathrooms and latrines that were a lot more clean than my friend's bathroom was. Their kitchen was nasty too since they never cleaned it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had roaches since instead of throwing away trash and food they didn't eat or that fell on the floor of their apartment and they'd just leave it all there since they were too lazy to vacuum or clean.

Since those people in the article are making meth at home I am surprised they didn't wind up getting horrible burns all over their bodies or blowing up their entire house.

I am in a major American East Coast city and while coke, heroin, crack, pharm opiates/benzos, and even PCP are more popular here than meth they've found meth labs here in people's houses.

Oh the joys of living in one of the thriving meth capitals of the world. I like in Missouri, a few hours away from the Ozarks and twack has definitely taken its toll around here. Even the 15-16 y/o kids in the rural areas are doing rails of shake-n-bake cooked meth.

It didn't say they quit meth. It said that they had a lower prison recidivism rate. Most may not be addicts in the first place.

And prison does not rehabilitate criminals. I'd say it hardens them. It could be that the ones who went to prison ended up using more drugs IV in prison, gained friends and connections, learned new schemes and antisocial behavior, and lost their fear of prison, in addition to no rehabilitation or support. Ironically, there's more drugs in prison than out, and it's almost always IV.

I like Portugal's voluntary drug treatment better.

Yeah Ive known lot's of guys to go in for minor shit like trafficking and come out total gangsters who don't give 2 fucks about going back to prison. Crack not meth is the major drug here although i do know a few complete fuck up's who use the bottle method to make shitty meth. Christ the stuff that some people do 8)

This is really upsetting to read but I've always been told stories of the Southern Mid-West American cities and the big meth problem.

It baffles me that so many countries in the world have a meth problem, often serious. But for us in the UK and Ireland (we fucking love our drugs) it has yet to take off...

They apparently have a big problem with it in Thailand and Indonesia where it's called Yaba from what I understand. However, I read somewhere else that Yaba is actually a mixture of methamphetamine and another psychoactive drug?

Edit - Also in South Africa where it's called Tik - again, from what I remember reading (meaning I could be wrong).

Yeah it's the same where i live really for some reason meth just never took off. There are some users but maybe not more then a few dozen in the whole fucking city. Crack is king here but for some reason meth just never became really popular which i look at as a good thing.

yeah it's weird how it takes off in certain areas or cities or countries and not others. In the case of this article, maybe it's because they are not that far from mexico where alot of high grade meth gets made? (i think i read anyway)

Yeah ro4eva in Thailand and Indonesia and probably other Asian areas they have yaba, which I thought came mostly in pills, never had it or anything so don't know too much about it, but i read of a fair amount of large scale busts of the stuff, especially coming in from Burma across the border into Thailand.

As far as i recall meth/ice/shards didn't really take off in Syd till around the yr 2000, but i could be wrong, i never used to see it at any raves prior to then, it was all powder speed or gluggy, dampish type speed. Now days I believe it's totally the other way around, not nearly as much powder and alot of crystal.

Crack never too off here in Aus afaik either, we have or had lots of cocaine powder (pretty damn expensive tho) but even in decades past when there was loads more at cheaper prices it was never in crack rock form (afaik anyway)...

Here in Missouri most of our methamphetamine is home made very locally. Some Mexican stuff makes its way up the I-35 corridore but not too much, mexico actually is quite far away from the part of missouri that the article is referring to.

Meth is also big in both China and North Korea apparently. I read an article about this and how the new leader of N. Korea is rumored to be a meth addict. Yikes!

A friend of mine is from Missouri and lives in the Ozarks and he said how you can see what meth has done there but he's never used it but sometimes he'll smoke herb a few times a year but he mainly drinks; but he said that on the local Missouri news he saw how meth use is decreasing there, and I hope this is true.

That conduces well with Asian culture and authoritarianism; I don't doubt that those governments encourage it in some venues.

To be fair, many heads of state were/are on amphetamine or take it semi-frequently.

I'm definitely with Ho-Chi, a lot of heads of states, high ranking politicians, etc are hopped up on various types of stimulants. And for a country where labor is the primary means of obtaining capital, it would be such a far off idea that stimulant use would be pushed by the government.

Missouri's meth problem is not getting any better contrary to what Priest said. We are one the hardest hit areas in the US, and now that the one pot 'shake and bake' method is so popular, it's going to be damn near impossible rk turn the tide. It's quite sad, I personally have former friends that turned to cooking.

"Something in the fixated mind of a methamphetamine addict drives him or her to examine the inner working of electronics, or to fascinate over rocks."

lol what the hell is this?! I have never seen or heard of people that do meth fascinate over rocks....

lol yeah i noticed that as well and thought wtf..I googled it and saw quite a few entries about it, some collect rocks, some nails and nuts and bolts, some random garbage, i think it's obsessive-compulsive disorder caused from meth abuse.

Really!?
I don't see how the government encouraging illegal meth use would mesh with authoritarianism at all.
And I can't possibly imagine China, or North Korea encouraging meth use (or any other Asian country).

I have heard that meth is becoming somewhat popular in China, but never saw any stimulant use (apart from tea) with my own eyes when I lived there.
