Cold Water Extraction - Fail! :(

Ive performed CWE a few times before all relatively successfully yet last night i had 2 attempts at CWE on 30/500mg Zapain (30mg Codeine/500mg Paracetamol) and i failed abysmally!

Ive no idea why? I followed the same procedure as i have done in the past apart one small change.... I placed my ground up into dust tablets (20 tabs - was hoping to get close to 600mg Codeine) into warm water and then cooled in freezer (not to freezing point) yet for some reason none of the powder sank to the bottom like usual?!

The one small change i mentioned in the process was that i used warm (not hot) water to dissolve the pills, in the past ive always just used water straight out of a tap (cold water) and then mixed in the powder and put in the fridge or freezer and the dust has always settled at the bottom, yet on both of last nights attempts this didnt happen, i still tried to filter the mixture through some old t-shirts yet all i was left with was very milky/cloudy looking water that i dare not drink.

I know there are a million and one threads on CWE on this site and many others which i have read and re-read yet i tried to do everything to perfection but ultimately failed.

Sounds like you know the answer. You did 1 thing differently, used warm water. Therefore I will assume that somehow using the warm water fucked up your CWE. Evven though it should not in theory, it sounds like in practice things went much differently.

Yes, it should be irrelevant as long as you cool it down, but, considering it went warm-> cool in a small time frame, i'm going to go out on a limb and say that you did not give the stuff enough time to precipitate out. what I mean to say is that when you use warm water and then cool it, the particulates themselves need extra time to reach the point of separation.

did you bother to agitate to powder into the water?

there are some binders/fillers, such as titanium dioxide, which left over in solution cause that cloudiness you're witnessing.

I ground the pills into a fine a dust as possible using an old weed grinder (they work suprisingly well!)

By agitate do you mean did i stir in/shake up the powder once it was submerged in the water?

If so then yes i did.

ok, was just checking.

if you filtered the solution properly then it won't be much of a problem - the cloudiness is likely binders/filler. if you're unsure then filter the solution one final time. if the results are the same it's pretty safe to conclude the above about remaining binder.

Titanium dioxide is also often present in these substances which will give your CWE a white colour.

I successfully performed a CWE last night yielding approximately 600mg Codeine from my 20 x 30/500mg Zapain tablets.

The final solution was almost clear, just very slightly cloudy, i drank it along with 25mg Diphenhydramine and to be honest i didnt really feel a great deal which is unsurprising really as i have a high Oxy tolerance. (160-400mg)

i use warm water. Cool at room temp , freeze it, well until it's very cold, filter through a muslin bag that i have for kava, then double filter through two unbleached coffee filters. Usually a very clear product.
Depending on the fillers used.
If its milky i'll cool and repeat but it flows straight through the filter. So must be binders.
Stay safe, worth the extra time for peace of mind.
