In a few weeks I am going to college and rooming with a few of my buddies. We all smoke a lot of weed so we're trying to figure out the best way to smoke and not get caught. Does anyone have any tips? We are going to get a vaporizer to minimize the smell and get an air purifier but what is a good kind of air purifier? And what else should we do?
Thanks a bunch
Love & peace,
Ben

go around door ledges etc with a lighter and check how the airflow works in your room, eg. that the higher layer of air in your room is moving out while the bottom air of your room is flowing towards the hallway. It may change with weather changing, but once you got it figured out you can use the airflow properties of your building in your favor

Wow that sounds pretty stupid, reading now, but please don't think I'm crazy...

if you arent close to a window to vent out the smoke, dampen a towel and blow your smoke into it.

Why not just go outside instead of take the risk?

My freshman year I had 2 friends get kicked out the dorms on the FIRST WEEKEND for smoking in their room. Not even a week we were in college, they were already kicked out the dorm. Even though they only lived there for 5 or 6 days, they still had to pay the full room and board fee (around 3000 dollars), pay for court stuff and legal fees, and were put on academic prohbation. On top of that, they had to find another place to live (add another 600-800$ a month).

At some schools with no tolerance policies I've heard it can be automatic dismissal. Nothing better then explaining that to your parents who just spent 10k on your first semester.

Not trying to be a dick, but it's really not worth it to smoke in the dorms. I'm glad I didn't have to stay there long until I found my apartment.

Agreed. I know a fair amount of people who were kicked out of colleges/universities, and who then had a criminal record, drug charges, court dates, fines, etc. because of getting caught smoking or using drugs in dorms.

Just smoke outdoors. Smoking in a dorm is more trouble than it's worth.

I knew people who would do things like put a bag over the smoke detector, burn candles/incense (don't do this in most dorms you're not allowed to burn ANY sort of candles or incense and if you live in a dorm the R.A. or resident adviser can enter your room for any reason-and at the most they'll tell you how you can't do that after opening up your door thinking there could be a fire in your room), and who used a spoof but they could have just avoided all of that and smoked outside. Other people I knew would smoke blunts in their dorm room but they had an RA who knew they blazed and didn't care; but this can be rare.

Get a one hitter like the type that look like a cigarette that's made out of metal and I've seen ones that look like a cigarette that are made out of glass or stone now. Get a box of cigs take one out and put it in there instead even if you're not a cigarette smoker. Smoke at night or during the day just walking around and going about your day or night.

When I lived in a dorm for a semester I didn't smoke in there at all and I just waited until I moved into an apartment to smoke indoors.

A guy on my dorm floor who was into smoking herb just would smoke outside with a one hitter and never smoked in a dorm at all since it's that risky and they can search your room and call the police on you if they want to or suspect that you have drugs, and if your RA is a hardass. My RA was cool but some people have RAs who can be dicks. I never smoked in my dorm room or other people's I just drank a shot or beer with friends. I didn't get sloppy drunk, puke/pass out, or anything like that.

You could always get a magic flight launch box vaporizer and just use that outside, or even in your dorm late at night. Vapor is lighter than smoke and herb vapor does not linger nearly as long as all types of smoke do. I've vaped indoors and there was no smell at all, and lighting a candle or stick of incense for a few seconds and extinguishing them produces more smoke that lingers than vaping does.

When I lived in an apartment at first I would smoke with a one hitter or small pipe only in the bathroom and blow the smoke through a spoof into the fan/vent in the ceiling, and I'd spray Lysol or Ozium, and open a window. Eventually I just stopped caring and I'd sit at my computer or on the bed and smoke out of a pipe or bong there. But when I lived in a dorm I did not smoke indoors or in there since it was way too risky and not worth it.

Living in a dorm is like being in prison except you can leave when you want to. If they catch you smoking, they'll call the cops on you. Fuck that. My advice is escape to an apartment at the soonest possible opportunity.

my advice is to not do it.

It's so stupid. Go walk in the woods, jump in a car, meet some people with off campus housing or on-campus apartment style housing. There are stoners everywhere, but you won't find many that smoke in dorms.

Why, you ask? Because the freshmen dumb enough to attempt this get caught and kicked out of housing, lose their scholarship, or even get put on academic probation. This is not what you want. Someone in your hall will eventually rat you out or let it drunkenly slip. Nobody will give you shit for walking through the halls blazed out of your skull, but you will get shit for toking in your tiny ass room that has zero vent.

If you're lucky enough to get into newer style dorms with showers IN your room (ie that you and your roomies share), then you can get away with it, assume your vents aren't tied to an RA's room. Why risk it. Walk outside.

Smoking outside isn't much of a hassle either. Most campuses in the US you're allowed to smoke on, and most have ashtrays / trash cans made for cigarette butts outside all over. When I still lived on campus we'd usually walk out to the soccer field and sit and down and smoke a joint and no one ever came by during the day there. We figured the smell would all be dissipated before anyone could get close enough. It also provided a clear open view to see if anyone was ever coming up on us. I'm sure there's spots like this on your campus as well - all sorts of sports fields or tracks or whatever that aren't in use during the day.

The only thing that sucked was winter, and having to go out in the freezing cold to smoke. This is what got my other buddy in trouble. Having two cigarettes with hash oil on them got him kicked out for a semester and he had to write a letter to the university to get back in. Don't be dumb like that. Mind you I go to one of the most liberal party schools in America (check out Kent State University college riots on youtube some time)

Don't forget that people will be cleaning your room, so leaving bongs/vaporizers about wouldn't be a good idea.

You'll eventually have friends over, I'll bet you anything they'll end up bragging about it like "oohh dude, we smoked in "insert name"'s room" bla bla bla

Wait until you get your own place. It's not worth the hassle or the paranoia.

Lol making a 'spoof' or running an air purifier is not going to do shit. In my apartment building if I smoke a blunt the whole building smells every floor. You have to be retarded to do that in dorm. Go outside, walk around, go in the woods.

Just having a vape or pipes in your room is bad enough.. you have no rights or privacy in college. Firemen enter at least once a year to test fire alarms, cops can enter without the same channels needed to enter a private residence. Your RA can do a search. I know I didn't think about tuition costs much when I was in college but get real. Do you realize how much money down the drain not to mention the legal and academic repercussions if caught?

If you really wanna risk it google "home made activated carbon air filter marijuana grow." Activated carbon does not mask the smell like an air freshener. When scent particles pass through activated charcoal gaseous air particles change to a solid and essentially drop to the ground. You can make a legit filter pretty easy with a 5 gallon bucket, activated charcoal from a fish tank supply store, and a pancake style fan.

Or even make a spoof using activated carbon not stuffing dryer sheets in a paper towel roll.

If it were me and I really wanted to do it, I would take a paper towl roll, fill wtih activated charcoal, then take a pantyhose and wrap paper towl roll with it and tie it off. Blow your hits through the paper towel roll. Use this in conjuction with the 5 gal bucket/pancake/activated carbon air "purifier"

Although not 100% effective, sploofs do work, so I don't think it's fair to say they are 'not going to do shit'.

Are you confusing carbon filters with another type of air purifier? Because that's not how they work.

Carbon filters connected to inline fans work perfectly for getting rid of the smell of smoking because the fan sucks in all the smoke if you are close enough. The problem with sploofs is that some of the smoke from the joint itself won't go through it and won't get filtered. Having a powerful fan by the window could work because none of the smoke will stay in the room in theory (again not that I'm condoning smoking in a dorm!).

Vaporizing is indeed a good way to control the smell because it smells more like popcorn that a burning joint.

Smoking outside is the only 100 percent effective method. I lived in the dorms for 2 years. The smoke detector is not really a problem its the fact that the smell is strong and lingers and often we potheads cant smell it very well after awhile. I would blaze and think shit it doesnt smell at all! then my roomie would knock on the door freaking out about how you can smell it all the way down the hall!!!! Gotta be careful you got no rights in that dorm room1

i've lived in dorms but rarely smoked in them vaping is an ok route to go but ultimately its best to just toke else wear. but if your set on smoking in your dorm invest in a carbon filter my buddy got one called the smoke buddy and it works like a charm if your smoking glass. you simply exhale through it and theres no smell or smoke.

As many people have said before, the best way is to go outside, find a place where you can smoke. At night it is very easy to just go outside with a spliff and smoke. Another possibility to buy a one hitter that looks like a cigarette. It is great for a semi public place but of course be careful. If you can't find a good place near campus, and you or a friend has a car, you could just drive around and smoke. Or try to make friends with people who smoke and live off campus (not just for this reason though, you don't want to use them) I smoked both in my dorm pretty often my freshman year. I actually knew a number of people who did. I ended up getting caught near the end of the year although it was because the cops came to my room to talk to my roommate while we were smoking so I guess we had some shit luck. If you do decide to smoke in the dorm, you should follow these rules and you will hopefully be fine. Some of them are obvious but I included them anyway.

1. Open a window and put a fan (a box fan it best) in the window facing outside. Always blow your smoke into the fan. (If you live on the first floor near a walkway outside, don't do this.)
2. Always use a sploof.
3. Roll up a towel and use it to block the bottom of the door. (make sure it isn't visible from the hall.)
4. Never use a bong, joint or blunt. A bong make too much smoke at once and a joint and blunt has a much stronger smell.
5. Try to not let the weed cherry. It creates unnecessary smoke and smell.
6. Use an air freshener.
7. Keep the number of people smoking at once at one or two.
8. Wait a bit after smoking before opening your door.

Of course be careful and smart about it. Try not to smoke too often. And I wouldn't smoke in the dorm the first week or two. They will probably be on the lookout more at first. Again, it would be better to not smoke in the dorm at all though.

not worth it. just buy a blunt every time you want to smoke and find someone who lives on campus in their own house to smoke with. Otherwise, youre just going to be paranoid 24/7, which since youre a pothead, isnt what you want.

Didn't bother reading other responses so I'm sorry if this post has any redundancy to it.

I want to preface this by saying that I went to a university with a dorm "neighborhood" completely enclosed by a 12-foot gate, with one entrance/exit manned by security police 24/7 to check student IDs, temporarily confiscate dorm residents' visitors license (until they left the dorms), and to keep people on the no-trespassing list out. Campus police were about 15-deep, did routine (and random) patrols and had an agreement with the county's sherriff's office to do "drug-dog training exercises" in the dorms randomly four times a year (basically they would run dogs through the parking lot between every single car, the perimeter of the gate, and up and down all the buildings stairwells to let the dogs scan our apartments' front doors). Suffice to say, I've got experience smoking in a lock-down secondary educational environment.

The air purifier is a good idea. Scratch that, it was the best thing in my odor-eliminating arsenal when it came to tackling the smell of constant weed smoke between 4 heavy and habitual smokers in a single apartment. Keep the smoking as far away from the front door in your apartment as possible. If you're able, try and establish a house smoke room in the back that you can chill in. Seal the room up (windows closed, 2 towels covering the door crack for extra measure). Set up the air filter directly in the center of the room, and get a small fan similar to the one called Vornado (Google is your fried :)) to keep an air circulation contained inside your room to better ensure all the smoke eventually filters through your air purifier.

There's another product you can order, an air freshener, that goes by several names: Blunt Power, Blunt Effects, BluntStyles etc. etc. Google that first name and it should take you to a website of the absolute best air freshener I've ever come across in my life (second best being Yankee Candle aerosol air fresheners). Anyways, 2 sprays from Blunt Power (which comes in literally hundreds of different scents-- my favorite is Baby Powder Vanilla) while you're midway through a several blunt session in a super danked out room literally, and I shit you not when I say literally, completely eliminated the smell of blunt smoke while it's still in the air. It's amazing and admittedly hard to believe by word-of-mouth online, but I assure you I'm not a salesman and this air freshener (marketed as a smoke eliminator, by the way) can't be described by any two words other than "the shit."

Also, Febreeze dryer sheets. Keep the dryer sheets on deck at all times, and try to snake a few in between your air vents so that your air conditioner or heat constantly blows out the lovely scent of freshly done laundry. They got hip to the dryer sheets at my school, though, and started writing people up for contraband when RAs would see them in the vents during room inspection. Easy way to avoid suspicion? Just take them down if you know you've got a health and safety inspection coming up.

OH!!!!! And with dormroom bathrooms, most have vents that allow you to remove bad smells from the bathroom. Most weed heads think this is a Godsend, when in actuality it can be a fucked up trap. The vents blow the air somewhere obviously, and in some cases that happens to be right into the courtyard, or right below an RAs balcony, or some other very suspicious spot that school staff have learned to determine the smell's source from regarding bathroom vents. Not all schools are like that, but mine was and so were several others I've partied with friends at. Just be cautious is all I'm really saying... College and university is a pretty big deal and I completely understand not wanting to blow it over some stupid shit like an RA thinking he smells weed outside your front door.

If I think of anything else I'll come back to this thread, but I think that pretty much about covers it. I can't post links to sources of air purifiers or fresheners or anything, but if you have trouble finding some of the items I'm talking about then just PM me and I'll try to direct you to the exact products that kept me cuff-free after 4 years of feeling like I was going to college in a prison.

1. Use a spoof/dube tube

2. Towel under door

3. Fan near open window

4. Make popcorn

4. Airspray

5. Make friends with RA/CA

6. Refuse to answer door if knocked on.

7. Have a topless female covering breasts answer the door, making them think they interrupted something.

8. Make edibles/tea.

9. Go outside or to a friends house.

10. Quit smoking pot.

3. Fan near open window

10. Quit smoking pot.

I agree with everything except for #3 and #10. #3 because I feel like it's best to keep circulation contained within a single room in the dormroom/apartment, as you never know who might get a whiff of ganja and get campus security or police on the phone. I've seen drug dogs come up just because some staff or RA thought (or in a lot of cases really did and just didn't like the person they'd caught or were in a bad mood) they smelled some bud smoke in the air. Drug dogs are no bueno in the dorm area, but you have a good chance of them not alerting at your front door if you habitually contain all of your smoking inside one sealed room with a sweet mini-fan for circulation and a decent air purifier to filter the constantly circulating air/smoke combination.

The best method really depends on your specific situation (i.e. where your room is located with respect to staff and RAs, where your windows are, how many rooms are in your dorm, whether or not there's a balcony, etc. etc.). I just know that occasional smokers in my buildings throughout my 4 years in school got arrested left and right, but I was a heavy, every day, before class, after class, when I wake up type of smoker that never had a dog alert or police run in my shit, and I feel like it's due to my containment-method when it comes to isolating your smoking to a single room. To each his own, though, and do whatever you think might work best with the budget you've got to work with.

#10, though? Yeah, guaranteed way to not get in trouble for pot but if it weren't for weed I have a feeling I would've been one stressed the fuck out college student without my herbal. Then again, weed's always been my main and preferred coping mechanism so I'm kind of fucked to begin with. Eh, just my $0.02, if it's even worth that. :)

[EDIT: OHHHHH!!!!! Also, emergency situations when you know you've got dogs coming and you're not prepared? Grab some pepper, preferably a mixture of coarse and ground pepper prepared specifically for this purpose. From the front door and all the way through the apartment, sprinkle (but I don't mean be liberal, I mean make sure pepper gets everywhere) the mixture on the carpet. If you've got linoleum it'll only work if you've got a dirty floor to begin with, because most police recognize the pepper trick if they see too much. Anyways, the thought behind it is that with enough pepper mixed in with the carpet it fucks the dogs nose up and they do whatever they can to finish their job quickly and dip the fuck out of the area that's hurting their nose. I've done it on a false alarm so I've never seen it work firsthand, but I've had other people in the dorm that I trust 100% hip me to it with their stories of throwing dogs off the scents of ounces at a time with the last-minute pepper trick.]

[EDIT2: I'd also like to point out that with the containment, air purifier and circulation method a sploof is completely unnecessary (it can't hurt, it's just not necessary) even when putting blunts in the air. THAT one I know from firsthand experience. It takes some time, but the smell gets completely eliminated with the quickness so long as you keep the air purifier's filter updated and clean.]
