Hi

I was just wondering if it's a good idea to take a SSRI following a trip (maybe 24hrs later?)

The reason I ask is because I am not 100% sure that it would be safe. I would like to do it because I am feeling like shit. I kind of went a bit crazy the other night. I took 100mg MDAI, 200mg ethylphenidate, a whole bottle of vodka and about 70mg of aMT. The whole regrettable experience has turned me into a crumpled mess and I sincerely feel sorry for doing it.

Yesterday i was still tripping somewhat from the aMT so at night when the tail end of the trip wa coming I noticed how agitated I was. There was no way I was going to sleep in that state so I decided to take 30mg of remeron (5HT antagonist) to try and restore some normality and also to get me to sleep.

After about 20/30mins I was gone, then didn't wake up until 8.00am the next day (today).

At the moment I feel so low and depressed. I have tomorrow off as well as today so I am hopeful that my body and brain might recover somewhat by that time.

So with the SSRI, has anyone took it to try and beat the post trip depressed state that occurs? Does it work?

I really don't know what to do. Taking the SSRI is tempting because even though my 5HT receptors are going to think 'Oh no here we go again' I am willing to do anything to try and make this period as unpainful as I possibly can

Honestly I am not sure, but with Ethylphenidate which acts on as both dopamine reuptake inhibitor and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, I would not fuck with taking an SSRI right now, while it's doubtful that it would cause to much more of a problem then what you already have going on right now, it's really hard to say what your brain will do and how you'll react. You might want to just give your brain a break. If you want to sleep, I would say take a benzo if you have access to it, like Xanax or something but you said you drank a bottle of vodka as well, if your still drunk forget the Xanax right now unless you have someone there that can keep an eye on you and make sure you keep breathing. That's quite a party you had going on there lol, I would just give your brain a bit of a rest before introducing more drugs to the mix.

It's really hard to say if you would be ok taking anything else right now, just consider that every drug you add to the combination basically just exponentiates the possibilities of drug interactions and or side effects. I would not want to tell you that it's safe by any means. I just think you head needs a break to try to return to some what a normal state, unless your like me, and there is no normal state lol Good luck and please be careful! :)

It should be fine. Unless i'm very much mistaken, most trips just act as serotonin receptor agonists, they don't actually release any extra serotonin, as opposed to stims like MDMA which you should definitely not be taking at the same time as SSRIs. If anything, i've heard that they can dull the trip.

nAON, your right the SSRI doesn't elease anything, but my only worry that his brain is sitting there trying to stabilize itself, would you really want to mess with taking a drug that just delays that process? IDK, just my thought, I do agree with you though, it likely would not cause any issues in and of itself, but with the ethylphenidate, I would just be concerned of possibly just delaying him feeling better. Wouldn't you think?

thanks for the replies guys it's good to know people care.

I suppose allowing myself to feel like shit, no matter how painful it is, is probably going to allow my brain to heal quicker. Taking an SSRI might make me feel like all is cool again but I could very well be delaying an inevitable crash. I felt horrendous yesterday and I feel less than horrendous today so I figure you could percieve that as progress.

This whole episode has taught me that I need to go and get help. I'm lucky to be alive. I think I must have blacked out for a good few hours. I am getting flash backs of me tripping my nuts off, being in town and there being no-one about (which there wouldn't have been considering it would have been the early hours of the morning). God knows how I got home. As soon as I did get home, that's when I took the aMT (hence I spent all day yesterday tripping). My brother saw me. I looked at myself in the mirror and boy I looked an absolute disgrace.

They say trips teach you things. Well, this has taught me to stay the fuck away from drugs. Every drug I take fucks me up one way or another. Even alcohol. My brain says 'more, more, more' and I have no way of stopping myself.

I am going to book myself in at the doctor's. Complain of depression and hopefully get some free counselling. My life is a mess.

Interesting that nAON thanks for the heads up about the pharmacology.

It says on wiki that aMT is also a 'balanced 5HT, NE and DA releaser'.

I don't think the SSRI would have interacted negatively following a 24hr wash out period I suppose I was just asking if there would be any point in doing this and whether anyone had tried it.

I know people speak of 5HTP doing a job at helping you recover it just seemed to me that taking something more powerful like an SSRI might be more efficacious. But as expressed above, it might delay any recovery period?

Aren't both MDAI and AMT actual serotonin releasers apart from being agonists at the 5HT subreceptors? I am pretty sure they are but maybe someone can help.

InsatiablePeace, this is one of the reasons I love coming here to Blue. This site is filled with every side of addiction. From people straight as an arrow, to the most hardcore addict. When you come asking for information, help, guidance what ever, regardless of what it is, there are people willing to help, but no one preaches. So you could come in here asking how to get completely high, and you will find those willing to help, you want to get sober, there are people willing to help. One constant however, is that even the guy willing to get you high as a kite will do so (or should do so :) )in a way that causes you the least amount of risk. For example, I do not abuse drugs or alcohol anymore as I have seen the gruesome side of alcohol addiction and due to that I now suffer from live disease. Thankfully I have now been sober for over 2 years. I will likely will help you do what ever, but I will always try to look out for your best interest. It's a nice thing that you will find here. This is a great forum site for that. If you seriously would like to get some help, there is a thread here called The Dark Side. This is an excellent place to post the evil side of addictions, depression, ect. What ever dark side your are in, there are people here always willing to help. Infact, I am overdue going over to the Dark Side and saying Hi to everyone there. The people here at Blue are truly wonderful people, and you will always find people willing to help. There is always someone here who has been where you are, will be where you are, and have past on to which ever side you choose and then some. The range of people here is amazing and I have met some truly wonderful people. Feel free to hop over to the Dark Side sometime and just let us know what your going threw, where you want to go and I guarantee that you will be overwhelmed with the support offered to you. :)

This may sound like a stupid question but do you take SSRI's regularly? if so then it should be fine, but all SSRI's take 2-4 weeks of daily usage to start having their effect, so taking one isn't going to benefit you at all. If you are taking them daily you are messing with your serotonin levels big time and that is prob why you went 'a little crazy' Out of interest which SSRI are you thinking of taking?

Exactly what I was going to ask you.
If you are prescribed SSRI's as a regular medication then don't mess around with them by not taking them as prescribed.
On the other hand if you are not prescribed them then don't take any.
