Who's to say what really makes sense, at the end of the day? I would happily criticise YPDH's opinions about spirituality, I think she's probably wrong if she thinks the Christian god is real. But there is unwarranted intellectual arrogance in the way certain people attack her views. PTCH does not know the truth any more than YPDH does; nor do I.

Anyway, the purpose of EADD is not to engage in a "witch hunt" on people who see the world differently, is it? It's to encourage harm reduction in drug use. It's a social forum, so we have a laugh. But the point of it being a social forum, I think, is to make it a place where people come and stay. Not to exclude people.

I'm sure he didn't say that. He said he had sleep paralysis which for the dozenth time OFTEN INVOLVES PEOPLE SEEING GHOSTS AND SPIRITS AND OTHER SCARY STUFF! He didn't think he was being attacked by ghosts. You started that by saying it happened to you and how you got rid of it.

We're also not talking about sleep apnea, that's when your throat collapses on you during sleep and stops you breathing. SLEEP PARALYSIS! You're clearly not paying attention, think your heads in the clouds.

friend of mine has just experienced sleep paralysis for the first time, said he felt like he'd been pinned down and raped by a ghost lol scared the shit out of him, poor bastard. reminds me of the last time i had a nap after a long mash up, started lucid dreaming n looked into a mirror n felt this feeling of pure terror, probably cos of my ugly shocking mug, heard this screaming noise, snapped awake unable to move with this presence in the room, a tickle hand feeling running down my body n this weight on me, proper weird

Dan clearly mentioned sleep paralysis. He and his friend were suffering from sleep paralysis. So were you. What you've described is classic sleep paralysis. Being half awake, seeing things happening that are not real because your body has woken but your brain has not. You feel like you're awake and it's all vividly real but it's not. It's sleep paralysis, a well known medical condition. There were no spirits involved.

My take: I have a strong personal interest in 'the occult', and though I dislike the designation (to say the least) I would ultimately fall into YPDH's 'spiritual person' category. I'm also very much a skeptic and very acutely aware of the fact that the general public sees this area of interest as 'eccentric' at 'mumbo jumbo' at worst. I can live with that.

I don't generally bring these things up (unless prompted) in company that isn't similarly predisposed. On the very rare occasions I do, I fully expect people to snigger, shake their head, do the Twilight Zone music or whatever. I certainly wouldn't take offence if somebody attempted to confront me on any outlandsh assertions I might make.

I've had sleep paralysis several times, and no matter how many dusty grimoires I might have read, or Sisters of Mercy records I might have listened to, my opinion is it's just that - sleep paralysis; it's a widely-recognised and researched phenomenon. Putting forward any alternative hypothesis, whether that's 'spirits' or whatever, naturally invites criticism and scrutiny. End of.
