My script was for 60 Vicodin ES (1 tab q6). Because my insurance had lapsed, I decided to pay cash for only 30 of them. Two days later, my insurance is active again and I want to fill the other 30, but the pharmacist is saying that it's too soon to get the other 30 tabs filled because I just had 30 filled two days ago. My argument is that the new request is not technically a refill, even though that's how it's read/interpreted by Rx computers. It's all part of the ORIGINAL PRESCRIPTION. Had I wanted all 60 originally, there would have been no problem. This seems inane. Anyone else ever have this happen? Ideas or suggestions?

Yeah, your insurance is likely the dick in this scenario. If you call insurance and find that not to be the case, change to a pharmacy that doesn't suck and transfer that puppy.

Sorry, all you can do is try to talk to your pharmacy or offer to pay cash. They are correct that it is read as a refill by the computer for insurance purposes. You will likely just have to wait until the current fill is gone before your insurance will allow you to get more. Sorry. Don't think there's anything else you can do that you haven't already (assuming you've already discussed this with your pharmacy). Maybe ask to speak to the manager of the pharmacy? Or call the insurance company? We don't usually even allow questions about filling scripts.

It is seen as too early because 30 should last you more than 2 days. Be careful on how you handle this. Wait until time had lapsed and it's been 7.5 days and you can get the refill. Maybe you can get it on day 6.

I couldn't get my whole script filled so the dr broke it into 2. They wrote it so it would be scheduled 4 times a day instead of PRN.
It worked.

This. You may have to just wait. Some state's laws prohibit filling half of a controlled substance and then getting the other half filled before a certain date. This is bordering on legal discussion which is something we don't do here. Contact your insurance company and the pharmacy and they'll help you out.

I'm going to close this thread, feel free to PM me or any other member of the BDD team if you have any questions or concerns.
