PANORAMA THURSDAY 8PM

The Truth About Sports Products

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01l1yxk

"As many of us try to get fitter in this Olympic summer, Panorama investigates the sports products that promise to boost your performance. Are those pricey trainers worth the money? Can sports drinks really help you work out for longer? Are protein shakes any more effective at honing the physique than ordinary food?

With exclusive access to the findings from a unique study by the British Medical Journal and Oxford University, reporter Shelley Jofre tests the science behind the bold advertising claims made by some of sport's biggest brands"

Im sure they will prove that most have fuck all effect of your averaghe joe down the gym......not you RS or MSB........im mean your average gym goers.

Yeah doesn't sound like it's going to go into much depth. Alot of protein shakes are just utter shit. I've seen ones with 13 servings out of £50, fair enough they have everything in them but you can get about 3 months worth of whey for that. The likes of the ones Tesco's etc sell are just useless.

Definately give it a watch anyway. BBC3 aren't known for producing the greatest documentaries though.

I am under no illusion that 30 grams of a chicken based wholefood protein is better than 30 grams of protein from a protein powder. I just use protein powder because I simply don't have the time to eat that much chicken! It should be a good program, because I have been convinced for quite a long time that a lot of the industry is snake oil. Hence my earlier comments that it's bullshit that certain companies will us ad material that shows a roided out monster holding a can of beans, claiming that it's the beans that gives you that body!

Pretty much every one of these cretins on 'Maximuscle' or whatevers sales website are all to the teeth on roids. It's shadey advertising really. They should give a beginner trainer a years supply and gauge the difference/benefit their product has (if any).

The BBC once again show they don't know a damn thing about what they are 'exposing'. Whey powder is just a high protein by product of milk production. It isn't any better than food, and anyone with half a brain should know that!

So much so I was convinced he was a gay man.
But as MM has pointed out, not all beef is steak.

Once was enough!

Urbain always looks pretty fit anyway..

Rawr.

Ha. These bloody posts are all caused by the silly assumptions and particular high and mighty bullshit from MSB. Unfortunately what we've come to expect recently. MSB, you make Spade look blonde.

For the record, miss marples; I do about 20 crunches per workout, including 5 on the vibro plate. Anyone fancy now telling me im not doing enough 'and pr0s do more!'.. Yes my abs still hurt, yes im doing them correctly.. blah, fucking blah.

Im not training for aesthetics, im not even 'training'. As I said before, gym talk, and living in a gym is not my life, and I find such regimented regimes and posts from most of you to be far too concerned about body building. I use the gym to stay fit and healthy, and to keep my mind positive, which is why I focus on running, and which has been the staple topic of my posts in this thread.

Give over.

I'm sure the irony is lost on you that you are actually spending more time exercising than I do, yet you consider yourself not to be training, but it isn't lost on me. You claim not to be doing it for aesthetics or strength improvement then you write posts like this:
I've pretty much lost most gains that I had previously, due to shortening my sessions, and lack of protein in my diet. Though I plan to get crazy on the protein powder when I get paid, and going to sort out my energy levels. I do too much cardio to have any noticeable gains, unless I eat like a horse. Insufficient funds have stopped me doing so lately.. Not too bothered, as I love love my running.

Started doing abs for every workout though, and despite them killing me most days, they are coming along well!

If 20 crunches are killing you then you are a total pussy. I have a permanent hole in my stomach that my bowel pokes through and I wouldn't be whinging like you are about my abs killing me if I did 20 ab raises with my feet in gravity boots. If you can't man up over 20 crunches a day no wonder I can hear you crying from almost 200 miles away over me giving you some considerate feedback on how you could improve i.e. be fitter and healthier, as you say you want to be. There was nothing high and mighty about what I said to you in the first place, I just (apparently wrongly) assumed that you were exercising your abs every day with the intention of improving your abs strength, endurance and how they look.

Considerate? Hahaha. You.are.a.joke.

Telling someone a piece of information that helps them achieve their goals in a friendly way isn't considerate? Well, OK then.

On a side note: You say it's not about aesthetics, but a brief look through the 'what do you look like thread' seems to highlight that you are one of the biggest posers who likes to show their physique off than anyone else on here. Odd that.

Any way, we'll leave it there I think. You aren't interested in feedback, i've learnt my lesson and only give it to the people who appreciate it. I don't see anyone else in the last 28 pages moaning about the feedback i've given them.

More fucking arguing. What the fuck must new members think of it? How many new faces have there been, recently? Certainly not a lot in EADD. They're probably too scared to speak, in case they get a 21 page torrent of abuse. Not really aimed at anyone, more everyone. Maybe I'm just stuck back in 2003, but most of these threads are uninviting, and full of petty shit. I enjoy reading most of the arguing, but new people would be put off. That's all I'm saying. Mods can feel free to post this in every other thread in EADD. ;) Alternatively, someone make a 'peace and quiet thread'.

I completely agree. That said my first post on this board was in a thread where Ismene and yourself were having bit of a dispute over some shit in the Guardian, and your first (and only) post directed at me was "Tits or GTFO" :D

what it the best excessive to get rid of man tits? i've been skinny all my life but recently have started putting weight on only in the breast area... this is not a good look for me, i either want them gone or turned into pecs

i do like playing with my A cups though

Anything aerobic really, if long workouts bore you try Tabata sprints. http://tabatatraining.org/.

"spot training" the area you want to loose weight on never works properly as it only builds up muscle there but the fat burned comes from all over your body.

^cheers man

not sure if i can cut out the beer swedger..., i eat healthy but i never exercise. ever.

Tabata training will raise your metabolism and heart rate up in no time. Because you are performing these exercises at a very high intensity, your body will have to work much harder to keep up. This will cause your heart to pump faster and your metabolism to rise; which you want if you are planning on losing fat. Your metabolism will stay at a high not only during the workout, but after the workout as well. This means that your body will be burning fat even when you aren’t doing anything.

that sold it to me.. only 4 minuets of training as well, sounds too good to be true

what would be the best tabata for burning fat with minimum equipment ( i have some weights/rope for skipping but not a medicine ball like in the list)

Whatever you can put literally 100% effort and exertion into without injuring yourself, that's why I quite like running as it's harder to strain too much and it cools you down at the same time. If you don't put absolutely all of your effort in it really won't work as intended though.

Sounds too good to be true till you get to the 5th or 6th set and you feel like you're about to pass out or die; with running its basically 8, 100-150 meter sprints! Most of the time I only manage 6 or 7 before I can't continue.

just downloaded the tabata app

Pushups for intervals 1 and 3
Body weight Squats for intervals 2 and 4 (i'll start off with pussy weights)
Sprint 5 and 7
jumping rope for intervals 6 and 8 (by jumping rope i mean rope used for car towing)

i'm going to try it out once my food settles.. not sure if i can handle 2x sets of super intense push ups but i'll try it.

Moobs can also be a sign of a wider problem such as an estrogen imbalance that has arisen as you get older. If your tits are growing at a faster rate that the rest of your fat then you might want to talk to a doctor or something.
