The Citizens Advice Bureau are great at helping out in these sort of situations,so it could be worth your time going to see them and explain all that has happened.
You got nothing to lose from speaking to them.

I thought this too. Yet I was given a new job on thursday, just told they'd phone and give me my hours.. no word by sunday.. phone them, "oh sorry I have spoken to some of your previous employer and you are not employable"...

Aye but I know for a fact exactly what my last two employers provide as a reference.

"Mr Crackheid worked here between xx/xx/xx & xx/xx/xx"

Nothing more, nothing less. They're both far too large an organisation to get caught up in any legal shit from providing (or not providing) a shite reference so they don't even touch it, it just goes to HR & they confirm the dates of my employment.

If any of your previous employers said "No comment" or refused to provide a reference then that is exactly the same as a bad reference to your new employer.

Yes this would be the idea, but I have no idea where it came from. I've spoken to the 2 most likely previous employers and both are saying it wasn't them, I believe them aswell.

Not been on here in a while but for once I actually commend your efforts EADD, few cracking threads in there! Think it's time for a whiskey to celebrate my unemployable genius! Albion sorry man but that was rubbish, anyone got any fresh indie/rock tunes? I've listened to almost every live set of anyone playing at creamfields in anticipation, need a change of genre.

Constructive criticism!

Or else I'll delete your fucking medical records.

Your lucky, it's mostly bars I've worked in where they all know the staff well.

Sorry Albion, it wasn't your greatest work. Will you delete my criminal convictions if I'm constructive?

I thought it was alright Alby. Has a bit of depth.

It sounds more like an OST type of piece than a 'track' per se though, if that makes sense?

Yeah it sounds like the sort of music that played over SNES title screens...Which is perfectly fine by me, for a small 24 hour project. I ain't no professional.

It would have been good on ketamine was my initial thought, but I always tend to think that about obscure music or movies that I don't particularly enjoy sober.

The new Spiderman film, judging by the trailers, doesn't look all that great...The first (new) one was the best by far, with the Green Goblin.

Watched it tonight, I really liked it, preferred it to the original Toby Maguire one, it was different but it was a really good film.

oh, and I got a telephone number from the online dating girl :D and my ex angelsmoke is happy that I'm moving on :D although things are still slightly complicated between us but we are managing to stay good friends :) (slight headfuck smiley here)

I got sacked yesterday. I'll be officially unemployed as of the 10th of August. Now I just need my "fuck-off-quietly" money to come through so I can spend it on over-priced extravagant shite that I don't actually need.

I bet you were actually happy that you don't have to go back there. Sounded like you needed shot of that job a long time ago.

already had legal advice that a) you can't be offered a job without them checking referrences first, b) your employer can't give a referrence that bad, worst they can say is "no comment" and c) all referrences even if over the phone must legally be emailed to the prospective employer aswell.

From what I remember when I've been offered jobs it usually says on the letter that I've got the job but that they will be checking references. So basically I have been offered the job before they've been able to check with my previous employers. The admin job I had a few years ago my reference came through the post around 2 months after I'd been working there, I was the one who opened it. There was no problem with it but I can't have seen them punting me if it was shit.

I know a guy who deals with writing references for old employees and he reckons the idea that you can't give a bad reference is bollocks. I've also never had a reference emailed to me or been allowed to read it (bar the one which I opened not knowing what it was).

Aye definitely man, I could have just went back if I didn't want sacked. I'm not happy to now be joining the masses of unemployed cunts & have to fight to find another shite job but there was nothing else for it, I've been wanting away from that job for fucking ages.

I'm looking for a like button on her threat to kick your cunt in =D

I used to share a flat with her & fear for my safety quite often. Still surprised I've not got any knife wounds from then. I was a terrible flatmate & a total wideo pretty much everyday (eg, offering her new non-drug-taking boyfriend lines of ching while watching Hollyoaks on a Tuesday & responding to his stern refusal with "Good answer! More for me!" SNIIIIIIIF! haha). Half expected to wake up in the morning to find my room on fire sometimes lol.

What did you used to do for a job n why was it so shit?

Time for a bit more Dexter, best thing ive watched for ages

Have fun at the job centre. You now need to contact 28 different employers every fortnight, last time I signed on a couple years ago it was 5. There's not 28 new jobs available to apply to a fortnight round here at the moment.
