Opioids Opium question.

Today I had a gram of opium come my way...
a few questions I have to ask~
I don't have a real device for smoking opium so would it be possible to smoke off foil? I imagine it would being as it is tar-ish substance.
Also in case I don't plan on smoking this anytime soon... what would be my best method of storage?
Any input would be appreciated.

I always mixed mine with weed, bowls or joints (bowls far more effective weed kinda just served as a "screen").

I stored mine in a tin, but it wasn't long term or anything just a few weeks. Anything airtight should do the job but I wouldn't use a ziplock bag or anything a long those lines, also sure you put it in a cool/dry place.

PS. You're lucky! I wish I could find some, haven't had or seen any in many years!

Yes you can. Burn off the coating on the shiny side, use the dull side. Put it on the foil(don't fold it like the movies, make it as flat as possible; I use the side of a bic lighter), heat it, tilt it, letting it drip down and leave a trail(move the foil to follow the O), and suck it up with a tube like a straw. Suck hard. It doesn't taste as good as other methods, but it's effective. Sometimes it has a floral taste or others more nutty. Save the dross(ashes), it has morphine trapped inside. There a video on youtube of someone from Iran cooking dross into a smokable form, though he called it morphine.

Unless you've got a steady supply and/or don't care about wasting it I would not mix it with weed/tobacco and let it touch a direct flame. You can also hot knife it like they do in Iran.

Raw opium isn't very tar like. It's like caramel, only more brittle.Breaks into powder easily. Cooked opium can be more compact and dark, but it's usually brown. I think that picture of tar opium on Erowid looks more like it's Heroin.

I have my doubt that what you have is real opium if it's like black tar. It's common to sell tar heroin as opium, some places opium's even slang for tar(stupid I know). If it's bitter as fuck and smells like vinegar it's heroin. Also there's red rock incense that's sold as a rip off. It has little to no effect. Also some call concentrate of poppy straw(traditionally called meconium, extracted pods) opium. It'll have the alkaloids but is not as strong or good to smoke and has more shit in it.

So sad that real opium is so rare in the west.

However maybe you have your ways and it's real. Traditionally it was put in porcelain jars with a cork and sealed with wax, or when raw folded up in poppy leafs. Supposedly, like wine it gets better with age. A bag, a regular jar, a vial, or wrapped in plastic will be fine.

Good post THC2LSD, I forgot about that "red rock opium" some ass hats try to pass off as the real stuff. Even where I'm from (middle of no where!) people were passing it off way back when. I know a ton of locals that tried it and claim that opium "is shit" because they never got to experience the real deal. Considering most of them are hook on pain medication now its probably a good thing.

I think what I had was what you described as raw opium as it broke into powder easily. I have no idea how good it was or compared to "cooked" as I only ever had one source for it and once it was gone I never saw it again. I asked about it a couple of times and was told it was something he couldn't get on the regular, got the impression that whoever he got it from didn't come through our area very often.

Opium is my favorite though! I loved smoking the stuff, so much fun putting a bit in a joint and smoking it with a few friends, just chill out in the laz-e-boy and watch the football game all night. >)

The other good thing about growing opium is that it's a fiddly, low yield job, particularly using the easier to get, purple variety. You'd only do it if you were fairly dedicated to having a smoke of O. In the quantities it takes to pull a reasonable crop, it is way too much work for the money or the buzz...not to mention the risk.

The best way to smoke O is in a bong. Assume you've cut and grown your own O: store it in small flakes in an airtight bag, or just dry the heads you wiped it on and smoke them. You can mix O with tobacco or pot, or smoke it on its own.

O burns at a higher temperature than pot or tobacco, so keep your lighter at its hottest. Initially pack small cones as O will keep burning long after your tobacco or pot has gone out: you can waste quite a bit without realising it. The taste is a bit of a shock at first(not necessarily true), but the smell of the smoke is a delightful sweetish pungent scent. If you've ever read anything about smoking opium you'll recognise the smell immediately...

I find Erowid mostly good for the trip reports, you're right it needs a major overhaul. I really think they need to convert over to a wiki or at least a site that isn't flat html.

I'm so happy I started coming to bluelight because its more up to date, the forums are a valuable resource for sure. Reminds me a lot of the old overgrow forums (may they RIP)

I did use the search engine. Bluelight doesn't have the best search engine... not trying to be a dick.

I wasn't about to filter through 20 pages of search material... more importantly is there not a Opium MT?

Also this was my first time using opium..
I was actually not expecting a very good high because I did both a foil method and made a semi-bowlish thing to smoke it from where I didn't need to have a direct flame on the tar. It has been months since my last well known heroin spree and I have to say that the opium really surprised me. It is nowhere near as intense as most of my favorite pharmaceutical grade/street opiates but it was very enjoyable and made me very warm... might right a trip report on it soon.

I always hot knife opium when it comes in my possession (only a few times in small amounts [friends picking some up say at a festival], as I rather some other opioids). It's real easy to do and if you are a weed smoker you likely will have used this method say for hash oil or hash.
