A Lower Nazareth Township man was arrested in a Monroe County undercover operation for allegedly offering a woman marijuana in exchange for sex, the Monroe County District Attorney's Office said today.

Alec J. Nemeth, 19, of the 400 block of Whitebriar Drive, was one of three men arrested between Monday and Thursday as part of the "operation targeting drug traffickers who were utilizing the Internet to troll for prostitutes and distribute controlled substances," the office says in a news release.

The operation consisted of an ad placed on craigslist.org purportedly from a female new to the area looking to buy marijuana. The Monroe County Drug Task Force says in the release it got numerous responses within minutes, and arrangements were made to meet with three of the respondents.

One was Nemeth, who arrived with marijuana, drug paraphernalia and condoms about 7:15 p.m. Thursday at a predetermined meeting location outside Stroudsburg High School in Stroudsburg, Pa., court records say.

"In his text communication with the undercover officer he was going to give the marijuana for sex," district attorney's office Chief Detective Eric J. Kerchner said.

Nemeth was taken into custody and arraigned before District Judge Kristina Anzini in Stroudsburg on charges of criminal use of a communication facility, a felony, in addition to drug possession, drug possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and patronizing prostitutes.

I posted this article because it is probably one of the pettiest, most bottom-feeding police actions I've ever heard of. This poor kid was pretty dumb to answer that ad, but why are the cops bothering to go after him in the first place?

And why do mainstream newspapers never seem to write editorial pieces poking fun at these silly police task-force busts? Instead they just seem to mindlessly transcribe whatever info is fed to them by the cops.

other than possession, he is no more guilty of the charges than the police. they used a communication facility to commit a crime. they solicited for drugs. and if he patronized a prostitute, who's the whore?

gotta commit crimes to catch criminals? gotta commit crimes to keep us safe? thanks, 5-0.

Before people go about suggesting this is entrapment, this is totally within the bounds of the law. This guy had the option of saying no to 2 crimes in one, but he didn't.

The cops can do things like openly soliciting for sex, drugs, and violence. It helps them catch the "dumb" criminals as it were, because it's established precedent that hiring a hitman/prostitute, or buying cannabis on the open market is illegal. If you engage in these acts then you should know the risks.

Ask yourself: If you saw an ad in your local classefieds saying "HIGH PURITY POWDER HEROIN FOR SALE", would you call and be like, "yeah give me some Schedule I narcotics please, my name is Joe Blow and I live at 1234 marijuana avenue"? Probably not. It's only the people who decide the risk of buying obviously illegal substances is less than the reward who do that.

It's unforunate, a lot of the charges are dumb (because it's standard policy to try every shoe that fits when prosecuting...), and it certainly wouldn't have happened if prostitution and drugs were decriminalized.

Because it is an easy way to do no work at all while still arresting people and getting money for the county. Beats real police work.

were all the same people. the cops, like you are me, are junkies willing to do anything to "score," even if it means lieing, exploiting, or attacking otherwise decent human beings that likely aren't anymore harmless than.. you or me. bottom-line: theyre fuckin worthless pieces of shit whose sole ambitions are "swerve and inspect."
