Heroin and socioeconomic status

Dear fellow Bluelighters,

I've been thinking a lot recently about how socioeconomic class makes such a massive impact on drugs and their availabilities. I am most begrudging towards the class I was born into, because I have absolutely no contacts or anyone who knows anyone who could ever provide me with what I want. I'm an opioid addict, have been for ages, but only ever using pharmaceuticals (they are fairly easy to come by in my profession), but here's the rub. I have desperately wanted to try heroin for a long time. I'm completely aware of the risks, all of them - both physiological and psychological, but as an opioid addict, I'd give my left leg for it. But the problem is, despite hanging around the local substance misuse clinic, I still haven't hooked up with a single person who has any contacts or knows anyone. I know people who smoke marijuana regularly and people who deal it, but that's not what I'm getting at here. I'm speaking about the good stuff. The king of kings. Smack. Gear. Skag. Golden brown. Dope. Diamorphine.

Obviously I'm not trying to solicit or seek dealers here!! I'm simply making a social comment, because to me this seems like an obvious caveat. Does anyone else have opinions on this? Are there any other people in a similar situation to me. Could this be considered a saving grace?

I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I'd rather have semi-regular access to pharm grade pills rather than around the clock access to sneaky fuckers (ie dope dealers). -No offense to any cool dealers out there..-

^ Word. Heroin isn't really the "king of kings" when it comes to opiates. A lot of people only choose it because of price and availability. Heroin isn't even the most potent of the easily available opiates/opioids, and when it comes to euphoria everybody has their own rankings on where each opiate falls on the list. Oxycodone and hydrocodone are at the top of my list, but heroin is a lot cheaper for me so that's why I take that. A lot of them have very subtle differences, so whether I have heroin, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydrocodone, or hydromorphone, I will be happy either way.

I also have no idea what you are talking about. If you mean to ask what socioeconomic group heroin users tend to fall into, then there is no real answer. I've known some very privileged people that have become heroin addicts, and I know some people towards the lower class that are heroin users. Not to sound cliche, but addiction doesn't discriminate, although I do find coke heads to be more wealthy.

yeah I know heroin users from all walks around the block.... rich and poor. have run into some awesome people and shitty people, no matter what their social or economic status is... shit even had this bitch from a rich neighborhood end up getting my friend and I robbed at gunpoint (had a gut feeling)... and I agree heroin isn't necessarily the best opiate out there its just cheaper.

I dont come from a poor background, i was always a curious little fucker and where i grew up heroin was everywhere and thats how i became addicted. I've known alot of people from the suburbs, nice house, family etc who came to my neighbourhood to buy heroin and fucked up theyre lives equally. Offcourse it depends on where you are from but where i grew up i met alot of junkies in suits who dropped past in theyre lunch break to buy a fix.

Its not like you have to be born in the hood to have the ability to find h. Where theres a will theres a way. I grew up in white suburbia in alaska and still managed to end up a junkie and be able to cop there. Just saying it doesnt matter where you are, granted some places are easier than
others though. Id be kind of suspicious though if a well groomed gentleman perhaps with a nice car approached me while I was leaving the done clinic asking if I could help him score. def would scare me off.

It's pretty irrelevant what "class" you're in... plenty of people from all walks of the spectrum are heroin addicts. As far as where the drug itself is prevalent to buy..it usually tends to be in urban areas but not necessarily low income urban areas. I don't know where you live, but every state basically has a major city with a seedier area—homeless population, etc. If you really want to find H that bad and you don't know anybody a bit higher up, you need to go to the sketchy places to find it. But, keep in mind that blindly copping on the street like that is dangerous. More often than not, you'll get ripped off or just plain robbed.

It's not TOTALLY irrelevant. I don't mean to discriminate but if you have the slang, the walk of the ghetto you'll have an easier time fraternizing with prople who deals drugs. It's no secret that people acquires their drugs in the poorer part of town and it IS easier to walk in there and talk to the people in there if you are used to that kind of stuff (ie live in a poor family, or at least know poor(-er) people for example from high school.)

rich people also takes drugs but poor people deals them. Just as a general rule. No secret here. And it's okey, we are all people. You just have to know how to talk to them (like people, not specimens... am I off topic here?)

My friend who is rich cops in the hood and spent a day hanging with a hobo doing heroin in a crack house up in north Philly... She even got a connect out of it and the dude is mad chill. Even had us chill at his place with his girlfriend. Anyways what I am saying is the rich will go wherever they need to, to get drugs and going into the ghetto isn't bad IMO. To be honest I trust dealers from the hood more than the more upper class ones I dealt with because they all seem or are shady as fuck. By the way not only poor people deal drugs that's ignorant to say..... and heroin can be found anywhere.

I am not from the us so drug scenes might be different plus I said it as a general rule, I know that drugs are everywhere no doubt. But certainly is a lot easier for someone who knows the ways and codes from certain areas to manage themselves in that kind of areas rather than having to dress down and feeling all girly-faced when you walk past the corner junkies and your head smells like head and shoulders.
