Abbott Laboratories recently announced that, in compliance with the FDA limits on acetaminophen in prescription drugs, they are reformulating their Vicodin line, with Vicodin going from 5-500 mg hydrocodone-apap to 5-300mg, Vicodin ES going from 7.5-750mg to 7.5-300mg and Vicodin ES going from 10-660mg to 10-300mg, with this change taking place sometime in the third quarter of this year.

I'm assuming this also means that they will get new patents on these drugs, just like when albuterol inhalers were reformulated. But, on the other hand, Xodol is also in tablet form, with the same strengths, and has generic forms available. I'm curious to see how this plays out: whether the generic forms will be substitutable . If not, people are gonna pitch a fit at the pharmacy over having to pay for a brand name. But if prescribers are smart they'll stick to prescribing Norco. At any rate this should be beneficial as it substantially reduces the amount of APAP in these painkillers, making livers happier and healthier.

With hydrocodne now being schedule two I'm waiting for some opioid alone formulations. I do combine a NSAID usually with opioids for somatic pain, but it's nice to have control over what drug (apap works best for headaches not inflammation ime) and how much. Also don't see why they don't have some 20s, 40s, 60s IRs, and 60s, 90s, and 120 ERs. Even if one was taking oxycodone for you're daily pain, hydrocodone would be nice as an break through med on top. 40mg being a little weaker than a 30mg oxycodone, but with an incomplete cross tolerance it probably work as well as the 30mg oxy.

I was under the impression Zohydro would be the Hydrocodone equivalent to Roxis/OCs

I could be wrong though

Good, they're making Vicodin safer for those who need higher doses for prolonged periods. Better than others who reformulate shit to fuck you up in a bad way (e.g. OP oxycodone, Normison temazepam). Hmm, according to the controlled substance act, hydrocodone is schedule III in liquid doses of 3mg/ml, or 15mg/pill with isoquinoline alkaloids(narcotine, narceine or papaverine) or any medically recognized dose of another drug. Why no 15mg hydros, pantopon with hydrocodone, and hycodan in higher doses without homatropine methylbromide ? They'd be legal.

I think Zohydro only an ER product, not sure if they're going to make IR pill. Bet they'll be hard to abuse like OP.

it depends on if they make it abuse proof or not

Im really not sure what the status on that is

It was just recently made in to schedule two by the us gov
Has that bill passed with that bullshit hydrocodone amendment still in it already? If so that sucks. Probably has to due with the release of pure ER hydro. But they'll pretend it's to "save the children."

Funny thing is most junkies view Vicodin as a step above codeine, but lower than Percocet or Suboxone. It's not viewed as being in the same league as morphine, heroin or oxycodone.

Pure hydrocodone and hydrocodone with 15 mg or more is schedule 2.

When mixed with APAP or Advil ect it's schedule 3 drug.

If it changed can you show me a link?

I envision swift protest from retail pharmacies. My employer, your average suburban pharmacy, would need to add at least two or three new safes to store these drugs, and consequentially rearrange things substantially. The cost would justify lobbying against the rescheduling of the drug.

That said, I haven't seen anything new about relevant lobbying.

I see this is as one small step toward conceding that the whole "war on drugs" is a failed approach. Apart from complete anarchists, people should understand why these steps need to be small and gradual.

So get rid of the old stock and then Rx the new stuff only? Surely disposing of a few cases of Vicodin is cheaper than installing a couple new safes.
