Opioids Poppy Seed Tea - Liver Problems

Hi all,

SWIM has been using poppy seed tea on and off for about 2 years now.
Recently (over the past 4 months) SWIM has increased his usage to "most days" around 5 days a week.
It's time for SWIM to stop all together and here's why...

From time to time SWIM has felt his liver. No pain, but just an uncomfortable feeling in the right abdomen. SWIM has been worried about the effects of the tea on his liver for a while now but all the information he finds on the net tends to state that morphine and these other opiates are fine for the liver.
What SWIM believes is that he's taken it too far and at best now have fatty liver disease or Steatohepatitis. He believes this not only because of the physical feelings in his abdomen, but slight jaundice in his outer eyeballs accompanied by a yellowing of the tongue.

He'll be tapering with codeine for the next few days and will hopefully be seeing some improvements in about a week.
Either way, a trip to the doctor wont be too far away to get some tests done, but most likely after he has stopped with opiates.

I hope this helps anyone in the same position. I know some people who use regularly like me so I'm sure there are more out there.
Feel free to let me know if you are experiencing anything similar or have any further questions.

You can´t tell whether you have liver damage or not simply by the fact that your abdomen hurts. In general pure Opioids are not heptatoxic. But of course poppy seed tea is a mixture of many different alkaloids. Only a medical professional will be able to find out what`s wrong with your abdomen/ whether you have liver damage. Tell him about your tea drinking and he`ll do some tests to find out whats wrong.

I wouldn`t wait until you`re of the opiates. If you really have liver damage, it´s time to act.

In hope that you and your liver are fine,
Adrenaline

sometimes i get a pain there too, right abdomen but i'm quite it's my bladder as poppy tea messes it up somehow (difficulty urinating, constant urination after dosing). Sometimes it's also from constipation, feels like i'm blocked up and it's putting pressure there.

i personally doubt you have permanent liver damage after only a few years of poppy tea. you should really just go to the doctor and get it checked out though. if you're afraid to go t your regular doctor because he might stop prescribing you opiates or benzos then get a new doctor to conduct these liver exams.

First of all: people don't use SWIM on bluelight. We believe it makes posts harder to read, doesn't protect you from anything or anybody, and is plain annoying.

Did you abuse other drugs? My friend was overusing APAP (acetaminophen / paracetamol ) and ibuprofen and she got bad results on her liver checking.

Maybe this is psychosomatic and you're just imagining this feeling? The anxiety of your livers health may be producing this.
I was also abusing PST for about a year now (now I'm in fifth day of separation from it and in hope of divorce) and I'm also worried about it; sometimes I'll focus on the liver and think I feel something.
I don't see any problems that might be result of liver damage, but still I want to have it checked soon.

Also it's true that nobody I've heard of has ever checked what's inside the brew. We don't know if there are any pesticides or other unhealthy substances in it.

BTW: liver doesn't have nerves in it, so it can't be felt or be in pain. However if it enlarges because of some kind of damage, it may cause the surrounding to ache.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply's, just to follow up;

I don't have pain where my liver is, the liver has no nerve endings that's correct. Inflammation can be felt though, and that's what I believe I'm feeling at the moment.
My main concern is the jaundice. Like I said, I have a slight yellowing of the eyeballs. I believe my face is slightly yellow too. It could definitely all be psychosomatic but the main thing is my tongue is bright yellow.
I've never abused acetaminophen, in fact it's only a last resort if I am ill. I also barely drink alcohol and never drink it heavily when I have had the tea.

I've heard of a lot of people cooking their tea. I suppose when you use pods it's important in getting the most out of it. I'm wondering if this could influence bad bacteria.

Also, I deliberately included Steatohepatitis, as it is reversible liver damage. i.e Fatty liver

thanks again

Yes I have fatty liver and when drinking alot or doing other things like Kratom you can feel the increased swelling or whatever, its a weird uncomfortable sensation right by your liver and causes some weird redirected pain in the right knee as well. Not sure about other opiates though.
