My best friend has stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. It has spread to his spine and pelvis.
He has been under going chemo once a week and radiation daily, he started out with no major side effects but was put back into the hospital last week with a low-mid grade fever. Obviously his immune system is stressed but on top of that he has terrible heart burn, absolutley no appetite and now depresion.

Medical cannabis is not an option in our state. I do have access to weed but dont even know what type i should get him or if I should in the first place. The bottom line is this cancer is going to kill him, it would be nice to help him if possible.

Any advice would be appriciated!

Thanks!

If the cancer gets bad enough, cannabis can be supplied by the government. I live in Oklahoma, a very conservative hard ass state and I know of someone who gets canisters of pre rolled joints in the mail who lives in one of the conservatist hardest ass counties here.

There are many ways to deal with depression, http://www.maps.org has a wealth of information about beating death related depression without prescription drugs.

As to what kind you should get for him, sativa hits the head and indica hits the body. If he or she is more concerned about physical pain then go for indica, if he or she is more concerned about depression then go for sativa, or go for the mixed blends if you want to ease the pain of both.

I use to know all about the different strains of Cannabis, but all I can remember is Sativa is more of a head high, while Indicas are more of a body high. Personally, I prefer Indicas. I'd strongly consider giving your friend Cannabis. My mother had lung cancer herself. She was on tons of pain meds, and all different types of medication. She lost so much weight from her lack of eating, but whenever I gave her a little bit to smoke, she'd eat a full meal and would have no pain at all. It's a very real treatment, and definitely helps significantly if used in moderation.

....

You know one of the FOUR surviving of the original FOURTEEN who were EVER prescribed cannabis by the federal government? Also it's mids they supply, 3% THC. Also, they stopped accepting new patients in 2005 under George W Bush.

So... nope.

OP, i'd assume indica would be a nice first choice as it provides a nice couch locky high, though sativa has properties that could induce more pleasurable effects depending on the user. Indica is generally used for chronic pain management, I believe that is what most cancer patients have traditionally preferred, though I know YMMV.

get a couple of different strains (some indicas, some hybrids and some sativas) and see which ones help him the most. perhaps he'd like to have a variety so that if he feels he needs pain management he can smoke an indica and if he needs a mood lift he could smoke a sativa or a hybrid.

Sorry thread, I have to.
You get yo info from Wikipedia?
You think the government needs a program for every other person that needs cannabis?
You think mids are any less smokable?
You callin my 40 yr old neighbor that is the only one who keeps her family together despite being obese and having numerous secondary family members living in the same city a liar??
So...yea....

burnin one down to thinking for yourself

Also OP, I think we all overlooked a very good but also hard to answer question. Idk what circles your in, so the actual getting of the bud can be pretty difficult. Concerts are a good way to meet people, if you're not sketched out easily. If your of a ripe age, hit up the stoners you knew in high school or college and explain the situation. You'll probably have to deal with lazy people, but if they know you and your friend's story, then I'm sure they'll be much obliged to help out.

i didn't call anyone a liar, but since you brought the term up... no, im calling you a liar; that or your neighbor is one of four surviving in the compassion act. There is no other US act for federal cannabis. Period. It remains federally illegal.

Does an APA published article work for you?

How about this? No? This one then? Uhh, This then? Don't bitch about a wiki source when it was clearly an overview, you can google for thousands of sources since I gave you the name of the act. Many of them are prestigious .orgs or government affiliated sites linking sources to the FDA, NIDA, etc.

I've watched plenty of hard hitting documentaries (The Union has a good bit on this) about this; there are only 4 left in the US that get prescribed cannabis, and it's shitty ass mids. I never said mids were not smokable, I'm saying
1) you cannot get on this list of people; IND stop accepting new cannabis patients in 2005 - they have plenty of statements on the FDA's page about why.
2) The cannabis is worse then 2nd rate. You would be hard pressed to find home grown bud this horrible. They could be receiving better treatment from nearly anyone in their neighborhood who uses illicitly, and it's a real shame that it likely comes to that for a ridiculous number of people.

So, where do you get YOUR info?

The reason they use such weak ass weed is to prevent it from gumming up the machines used to process the weed. For research purposes a more potent strain was required so they, at the uni of Mississippi, started a breeding project and managed to get the potency up to about 6%. I doubt they're using it in the compassionate use program though unfortunately. Researchers have been complaining about the quality of the weed they produce for years (that's if they can get regulatory approval, which takes years). It's similar to the quality, if not potency, of the stuff health Canada produces. Basically governments can't grow for shit lol.

Interestingly a few days ago I actually managed to get to see one of their infamous tins filled with pre-rolled joints. I don't know if the joints were originals though. I doubt it.

I don't think any of the 4 patients left are particularly obese, so yes either you or your friend is mistaken, or being less than honest.

Im not a regular smoker but I do have connections to aquire it. Being a complete novice I just wanted to at least know what strains to get if that option is available. It sucks to have to do something so called illegal to help my buddy but I guess thats a whole another topic. Thanks!

I'd check this and this out.

Generally for most medical purposes, indaca or extracts like hash seem to be the preferred variety. They help with pain, and have more antioxidative properties, and they are also more psychedelic, and could help your friend deal with the fact that he's going to die, as many (stronger) psychedelics are used (often illegally) for this purpose. Get him hash if possible, in case he doesn't want to smoke it, it's easily prepared for oral consumption. If not, a good strong strain will do him good, I think. I couldnt tell you for sure, as I'm not you friend, but that seems right to me

Indaca strains that I can name off the top of my head, are herijuana, OG Thai (probably the strongest strain I've tried), Afghan kush, cherry kush, and a lot more, but those are my favorite indacas. I suppose I'm biased, cause I almost exclusively smoke indaca, but I really think they are the most benificial.

Get him a good indica, a vape and teach him to use it. Sorry he has cancer. Pot is great for the pain and stomach issues. Indicas are body high which will help someone with cancer.

I cant give specific strain names...anyone can call any pot they want anything.

Vaping or edibles is the safest way to consume. My doctor recommends vaping for me.

I think LSD or shrooms in a therapeutic environment with loved ones and possibly a therapist would be good for him psychologically.

If he's going to die anyway have you considered trying to treat the cancer with large doses of cannabis oil? I don't know if it works, or haven't made my mind up at least, but it's worth a try if nothing else works. At the very least it might offer some symptomatic relief. You would have to grow your own but if you used clones you could get a harvest in a couple of months.
