Ambien is available yeah, 10mg tabs as stilnox.
I've had it before and sleepwalked and stuff, crazy... But yet It's on my list :/ I'll take it if I have to, whatever the doc suggests.
 
It's a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic, but also acts on GABA - I imagine there would be considerable cross tolerance with benzos.

I don't think it's sold as Ambien in Australia, I've only ever seen it as Stilnox (though apparently the brand names Dormizol, Zolpibell, Somidem and Stildem also exist here).
 
When I was naive and was desperately hoping that I could reduce my Xanax tolerance - I tried all the 'Z' hypnotics for sleep, although have been told by multiple GP's that they are cross-tolerant (as Divine Moments said above) and from memory it is stated in the CMI for all these med's. Have done the stilnox, the Imovane (leaves an AWFUL metalic taste in your mouth), stilnox SR, and whatever else is available in aus... IMO using high doses of benzos on a daily and nightly basis - the Z formula's have no efffect what-so-ever. :\

Just my 2.5 cents....

Seroquel is the best for insolmnia :)
It beats everything. No matter how much ice/shardy you have smoked prior to taking the seroquel. Once the Seroquels effects kicks in, you'll feel tired and then next thing you know, you've slept for 8-10hr etc :D

And yes Mangs, it can be used as an anti-psychotic medicine etc, but it can also be prescribed for insolmniacs yo :)

indeed they are just dont hit em too often or the effects will change....always bring a box of seras to a doof with me juuuust incase somone has a bad trip

I have seen this in practice and don't agree with it whatsoever. The medication is not prescribed to "terminate" trips it is prescribed to help people who are having issues with psychosis. No prescription medication should be given to anyone who hasn't had it prescribed to them by their Doctor or Psychiatrist.

What do you do if someone starts having a serious drug interaction and your stuck in the bush at a doof? The places where I saw this taking place there was no medical help available whatsoever and the nearest hospital was a 2 hour drive but no one could drive anyway.
 
I have a paranoid question about authority prescriptions? I'm thinking of cheating on my current psychiatrist and trying out a new one while still regularly seeing the old one before making my decision.

My current psych prescribes me 4mg Xanax per day (amongst other meds which don't require an authority),and calls in an authority script for 100 at a time with repeats.So I'm open to whatever the new psych may decide to prescribe me (and I'm not hunting for more benzos btw) but if he were to call in an authority script for a different type of benzo or even Xanax or something else entirely,would that flag something in the system? Like that I have already recently been prescribed Xanax by a different doctor,and I may be denied or flagged as a doctor shopper? It's a PBS script I get now too if that makes any difference.

If you arent doctor shopping then you should tell the new psychiatrist that you are already on xanax and whatever else you are on it will make it easier for him/her to decide what (if anything) else to prescribe you. I'm not sure how the authority system works but the new person shouldnt really be prescibing you anything unless they know what medication you are currently taking. Theres no reason you should be put on the prescription shoppers list if you are only taking the medication that you need and are honest with the new practioner about it.I dont think that list is only for authority meds either if they suspect you are shopping around for any reason they can phone for your prescription history over the last 3 months.

I should note, I still hold a "take as needed" 1mg xanax prescription, with my doctor giving me 7 a month.

I am also taking melatonin and promethazine as needed to sleep. (Usually nightly). This is the only solution I have found to work for my sleeping issues.

5x 25mg promethazine, 5x 3mg melatonin is my nightly ritual as of late.

EDIT: Ran out of promethazine.... resorting to 30mg codeine and 1mg alprazolam tonight.

I cannot test positive for benzos and get a job in any pharmacy in my area.

I'm training for a pharm tech position. I get drug tested randomly.

I was using kpins for RLS. Now I just pace the floor with RLS and stay up all night reading BL.

Pharmacies do not give internships to benzo users, regardless of anything.
 
^ Surely if you are legitimately prescribed that counts as discrimination? That fucking sucks if you are right about that, I guess it explains why I am yet to encounter a pharmacist sympathetic to drug users...

Promethazine is sold as Phenergan in Australia right? Isnt that available over the counter? I had forgotten about that as a sleeping aid, it has worked pretty well for me in the past I was speaking to a friend who works as a nurse a while back and she was reccomending it over benzos for insomnia. Did you get any side effects or tolerance from taking it every night? I bet that it beats not sleeping though.
 
i tried getting clonazapam last week but before i could even ask, my doctor told me the smartest thing was to stay on stilnox 12.5mg......i started off really liking stilnox but now im over it, takes a few (24-36mg) for any effect to work and then its too late as then i cant remember shit i did the night prior whilst on it. my doc would rather give me yet another script (im up to 6 or 7th script of these things in a month- no i havent had ALL of them myself btw). i dont have any dependence/addiction to benzos and hed still rather keep me on stilnox.
 
^Thats crazy, 6th or 7th script this month? I know benzos are a bad road to go down and im on it, but im sure taking that much of stilnox cant be good for you. have you tried other things like melatonin?

well benzos are prescribed by doctors and pychs and plenty of people take them without a script......i wasnt saying that it terminates trips it just calms you down and possibly puts you to sleep.ofcourse i would ask if they have are allergic to any sort of meds or if they are on meds that could have a possible interaction with it (and most people who are on pychs dont tend to take SSRI's or any other drugs that can have a bad interaction) i am also trained in first aid and they would be a last resort :) also its just good piece of mind to have a pack of them in the car juuust incase me or one of my friends trip goes bad.....i wouldnt just hand them out without asking and giving info about them and the person taking them....

also i am yet to give one to somone freaking out ussaly they pull up fine but if there freaking for a good hour i'd try the "this pill will knock you out and end your trip method" and hand them a panadol or some shit like that.if that didint i would then find some info from the persons friends and the person themself then dose them with 1 low dose quetiapine table.also quetipine is not just prescribed for psychosis i myself have been prescribed it for insomnia.....

fuck dude be careful taking that much stillnox it only takes like 20mg to cause a fullblown trip that from what i've seen do not look enjoyable!
 
like i said, i havent had all of them myself. 20mg for a trip? i didnt get that at all, just groggy feeling, slow talk etc. thanks for the concern tho , im not taking it anymore- have no desire to :) . just a bummer i cant get any benzos instead.
