no euros thread yet? here we go here we go here we go ...

Mark Lawrenson's commentary made my day. There's some great twitterings tweeted on twitter ripping into him. Here's some of the better ones...

The only positive thing about Mark Lawrenson is that nobody lives forever.

#marklawrenson sounds like he's watching his first puppy being drowned by his childhood sweetheart.

Mark Lawrenson: “Free kick. Free is a misnomer, though, Guy. We’re all prisoners in a pitiless universe. The price of freedom is our lives.”

Mark Lawrenson: “A terrible header from Rooney there, Guy, further proof that the sum of all human endeavour amounts to nothing.”

Also the match commentary included the line 'There's Cassano powering one into Ashley Cole's backside!' one point.

They have two. Ogbonna and Balotelli, of Nigerian and Ghanian descent but both born in Italy.

Pirlos performance was just coolness and class personified, gave a masterclass and footballing lesson tonight. His penalty was plain genius. How Ashley Young was left on the pitch to take a pen is insane. Rooney, Carroll, Young, Milner, Henderson, Gerrard(tonight), all absolute rubbish. They looked like they'd been out boozing last night. Would've been very harsh on Italy not to go through.

Germany should beat them easy enough.

Still amazed at how AC Milan could let Pirlo leave on a free transfer!

Yeah Millan of all clubs they usually keep their better players till their at least 40 Costacurta, Inzaghi , Maldini , Seedorf etc

Diamanti is crazy i loved him at West Ham of all the players i'm glad it was him that got the winner as such.

Can't wait to see the Germany v Italy match. That German world cup team was iconic...I hope they're as good this year.

Also Spain v Portugal. Spain are solid...Have Portugal still got the magic?

So happy, we dominated for most of the match, created a lot of chances but failed in front of goal, we definately need a cold cynical striker up front, somebody like Klose, Balotelli is not good enough, clumsy and not comfortable in possession.

We need to be at our best against the Germans, I hope De Rossi is fit, he's an incredible player.

I was quite embarrassed by England's performance, seriously one of the worst I've ever seen from any international side.

In 28 years of my life, many of which spent following football, I have never, ever, so far witnessed Italy dominate a match so much, I mean 64% ball possession with 35 shots on target, against nine from England. I mean you made us look like Barca, that's quite a feat. Those are Spain-like stats, even Ireland managed more ball possession.

What was the Football team like at yer skool ?
Or were you to busy shooting things and playing Polo to bother with a working class Sport;)

Also to everyone

Who was any good at footy or still good ?
I wasn't bad Played for Bath & a local Sunday team .
I've played at Villa Park a few times.

on tonights game if England play well i reckon they will win and make the semi's.[/QUOTE]

what the fuck do i know, played off the park for about 100mins. when Andy Carroll comes on and looks like your best player it's time to go home.

Last night was the first time I didn't cry partly because i'm dry at the moment but also because we didn't deserve to win and I feel good about the future under Roy. And yeah the Germans would have smashed us, and that would have been a lot worse!

Ashley Cole stuttered his run up only because he had seen the Italians do it before him, I bet he hit them proper in training all week! And the other Ashley was unlucky, but as people have mentioned the diving red scum prick should never have taken one following a poor tournament and because of his age.

Brimz: My parents are Australian and as such I was shielded from football for years and only started playing regularly when I was 8! Quickly took to it though, never had a huge amount of skill due to late development but I fucking loved being a rowdy 6ft4 centre back when I was older! MY BALL!!! Good on ya for playing for Bath lad. How come you played at Villa Park? I hate that fucking ground, so shit for away fans! However I have seen Dwight Yorke score a hatrick there and not for Villa...work that one out ;-) was AMAZING.

How good were the England fans in the second half and extra time? Sang the same song for 30 mins plus non stop. Love it when you get that atmosphere going when you are at a game. Crowd mentality. Loves it!

Andy Carroll looked very average imo!

And Gattuso just left + Ambrosini is still there. Bizarre decison to release Pirlo really, as he's 3 years younger than all those players. Even more bizarre when you see Aquilani and Muntari plaing CM. I'm sure his league medal for Juve has softened the blow.

We need to be at our best against the Germans, I hope De Rossi is fit, he's an incredible player.

For sure. If Di Natale had played last night, he would've scored imo. Balotelli didn't play that badly but his selfishness doesn't suit the team. Ridiculous how Germany have been given 5 days rest and Italy only 3. After playing 120 mins aswell they are seriously up against it. 1/4 finals on 2 days instead of spread over 4. UEFA need to sort that out.

^6.4" kin ell i wouldn't mind you marking me ( always did well against big defenders ) i was really quick off the mark that and my finishing abilities were my main assets .
I was shit in the air. Only scored 2 headers ever !!
I played at Villa inside on the 5 a side in a national tournament scored a Hat trick in my 1st game as i was left out originally .
We won those two games got through and lost on pens the one step run up ones , gutted.
The other time was when i was working for a large govt. department that had a annual footy tournament.
When i played for Bath that was at Twerton Park

Home of Bath City & Bristol Rovers for a while in the late 80s

I love Villa park besides playing their i saw my 1st Div 1 game their back in 83/4 and also the last EVER ECWC final Lazio v Real Mallorca.
Lazio brought thousands and the Ultras coreographed everything perfect .
The mayor of Mallorca actually paid for their fans travel !!
It was the Lazio team of Svens the one with Nedved , Vieri, Nesta , Salas , Mancini everyone in fact:)

^Was certainly a funny inclusion in the squad. And I feared the worst when he came on: "Shit he's gonna miss a pen!"

Turns out I needn't have been so worried. Right now I can't see myself watching another game apart from the final...but no doubt will watch it all as usual:p

Russia and Spain have just been charged with racist chanting by Uefa

I can't decide whether this is a poor inditement of the FA's, Europe as a whole or football in general. I mean I doubt you will hear any obvious racist chants at the Olympics.

I do hope some of these "fans" realise that the majority of the sporting world view their sport as slightly effeminate and more of a peasants game than anything to really shout and become ultra nationalistic about. ;)

The four best teams of the tournament have made it through to the semis for mind. Hopefully an exciting Spanish/German final awaits us rather than a dour Italian/Portugese bore fest followed by penalties.

Not sure about Spain/Germany serving up an exciting final after their Euro 2008 final and World Cup 2010 semi final meetings, both fairly dour, tense 1-0 Spanish wins. Intriguing yes, exciting probably not.

Would like to see that final with a few goals and result reversed.

Lessor of two evils. I can't imagine any final an all out attacking blitz, but the current German side isn't your typical dour side and the Spanish have no excuses. Having watched Portugal side sit 10 deep this tournament I'd imagine a match against the Italians with both sides standing in their own boxes and looking at the ball still sitting on half way. ;)

Have you watched Italy play at all, you make yourself look really stupid with such comments. We played an extremely attacking game for over 120 minutes, we were unlucky in front of goal but created many chances, if only the French had shown a tenth of our team spirit and determination maybe you wouldn't have looked so bad against Spain.

Against England we had 64% ball possession and 35 shots on target, if only we had a clinical striker on the pitch we could have won big, but obviously ignorant people such as yourself come up with cheap stereotypes about Italians. Imagine the outroar had the same been said against an African team. We had Spain like stats.

So far we are the only team to have played their own game against Spain and yet the only one to score against them, we matched them in midfield and created as many clear cut chances.

Stick to drugs mate as football is clearly something you have no clue about, repeating old tired stereotypes that don't apply to the current team anymore.

Definately, they deserved at least a draw against Germany, they are a good counter-attacking team.

I'd love Ronaldo to score a cracking goal from 30 metres like 20 seconds from the end.
