So...I'm RX'ed 1mg clonazepams for anxiety and panic attacks as needed. For the most part I stick to how I'm suppose to take them. In order for me to have mild anxiety relief I take 2mg orally, so clearly I have a bit of a tolerance.

My question is this: if I were to exceed my normal therapeutic dosage one time, will my tolerance sky rocket? Will I need to take the excessive dose just to get anxiety relieving effects?

Exceeding your therapeutic dosage once will not have huge effects on your tolerance. If your facing a situation that has really given you bad anxiety and you decide to double or triple your dose, it doesn't mean you will then need to take that much for daily anxiety

However, with benzos. even taking a small dose of 1mg daily can over time cause that amount to no longer have the desired effect. Thats one major problem with benzodiazapines. They are short term cures for anxiety.

If 1mg doesnt do anything to relive your anxiety you may want to talk to your doctor as well. If you suffer from more acute anxiety, such as quick onset panic type feelings where you pop a benzo to relieve it, you may want to give a different benzodiazapine a try.

Clonazepam is a moderate duration benzo. Meaning it is primarily used for longer stretches of anxiety, but is not incredibly helpful for relieving an anxiety attack. Under what circumstances do you usually take your meds?

I take my meds when i have my anxiety symptoms -- nausea, upset stomach, racing heart, feel like I'm going to go crazy. Also, I use it at night sometimes when my anxiety is giving me insomnia which has been happening more frequently lately due to a recent breakup and new job.

one time...no not really...
the real question is can you only exceed one time..and what's the reasoning behind it...

Once you start exceeding your therapeutic dose it's really hard to go back down again. And once you start doing that yes your tolerance will sky rocket. The first ever Benzo i tried was 10mg diazepam and it knocked me out cold, now i can drop 30mg and all it does is chill me out a Bit. And it seems to take forever for Benzo tolerance to go back down again.

This may sound like a noob question, but is there a way to accelerate tolerance going back down to normal? It feels like I'm in a benzo trap of hell...

Daily usage of a low dosage of benzodiazepines will slowly cause your tolerance to increase. If you take a higher dose on a regular basis, it will jack up your tolerance quicker....but since you're only going from 1mg to 2mg, it won't be anything crazy. Of course, that will make that 1mg dose do even less for your anxiety if you're taking 2mg all the time.

How often are you taken 1mg and how often are you taking 2mg?

Benzo's are a trap of hell unless they are used extremely sensibly by somebody with excellent will power.

Sometimes I have to take 1mg 4x a day when my anxiety is really bad. Some days, I don't have to take it at all. If I don't take it, I'm socially inept. I won't talk to anyone no matter HOW hard i try to.

benzo tolerance rises extremely fast.. 2 weeks ago .5-1mg of clonazepam would take care of my panic/anxiety episodes. now that i binged and took 18mg in 3 days, and before that i was messing with 2mg xan bars and such and now i need at least 2mg to get any relief unless i drink. in fact, i always drink now with my clonaz cuz otherwise i dont get relief. its time for me to take a long break and get my tolerance down, which can take a month or more for me!
