Is it safe to mix the two?
I have a friend who is prescribed xanax, and she has asked me to try them multiple times. I want to try them (out of curiosity), but I'm worried they may interact with my current medication in some way. I am prescribed 750mg of quetiapine daily, could anything go wrong?
I know very little about pharmacology, so pleas forgive me if this is a dumb question.

yes you can mix the two. The only worry is increasing the sedative effects of both medications. however you are on a large daily dose of which the sedative effects of seroquel have mostly disappeared.

Just dont take too many or else you may find yourself 12 hours later unsure of what happened.

I was prescribed quetiapine (Seroquel) and xanax at the same time. They each make the other one stronger. I couldn't take the Seroquel. It made me feel like utter shit after a week, and I quit taking it. My psychiatrist at the time said I should have given it more time and that I would have eventually benefited from it. I hated it. Since you are on it and it's working for you, it would probably be a waste to use your friend's xanax.

If you decide to try it, be careful, because although quetiapine can be taken with benzodiazepines, it increases the sedative effect of the benzo. As Cloroxtastebad has already mentioned, you might get more fucked up than you want to get.

For some people seroquel can be very uncontrollable. It depends highly on dose, and what its being prescribed for. I was prescribed seroquel for a short time for insomnia on top of being prescribed xanax as well. I would take 100mg of seroquel along with 2mg of xanax. Seroquel didnt really make me tired. Most say at low doses its a very strong sedative, for me it was far from strong.

Question for.op.

How is the sedation at 750mg? Many have said that it looses its sedative properties at doses higher than 25-100/200mg

If that's the case then sedation from xnax will be quite minimal. Xanax often causes a very relaxed state, not a near pass out state. That is unless you have consumed too much. Or mixed too many benzos and opiates.

I'm on the extended release stuff, take before bed (around 10-11pm) and kicks in in around 1 or 2 hrs. It's so strong I have to fight the drug if I want to stay awake, but even then I will fall asleep within 2 or 3 hours.
I'll be fine throughout the day though, so I guess I could try them. My main worry is that I'd fall asleep and not wake up again, which from what you said, seems unlikely.

How does xanax compare to opiates/oids like say oxycodone, or codeine?
