The Drugs and Music Mega Thread

Alcohol does not enhance music for me. Not even one bit. Everytime I'm drunk, and put on a pair of headphones, I end up taking them off within a few seconds.

With weed, I will put my headphones on, take them off and realize 2 hours have passed and I just went on a psychedelic trip. Music on weed is amazing.

Maybe its just that situation, I mean I am pretty sure that if im drinking and i try to put on some headphones and just chill to some music, id take them off in 5 min too! Fuck all that, but if your out at a show or a concert and your drinking, or even a bar with a good jukebox, then i find music totally enhanced.

I feel like the booze helps loosen me up some and allows me to grove more easily, and having some loud live music is the best to groove too. But this is a whole differnt music experience. Its far more social and physical, even if you arnt into dancing.

On opiates I like to listen to rather slow, droning or spacey music, usually either downtempo/psydub/chillout or alternatively stuff like Pink Floyd or Electric Wizard... But opiates are far from my drug of choice. I listen to quite a variety of different types of music in different states of mind, but my absolute favourite music on my favourite drug is psytrance on LSD. There's nothing like that awesome feeling of energy as the rolling bass reverberates through your muscles and nerves, and you begin to feel, see, smell, and eventually sometimes become a part of the music - I usually get so into it that it feels like none of the dancing is voluntary, and I'm merely a conduit in the larger circuit of awesome vibes that fill up the area. %)

God damn you assholes. You're making me want to take some acid again.

I'm all over the place with this one, but often, it's REM when on Opis. Especially some of their older stuff. I like music that is going to make me think, laugh, cry, rejoice, and feel even better than I already do, and REM fits that bill well.

On the rare occasion I am drinking, I listen to sad or nostalgiac or "meaningful" songs, and I must be playing music constantly when I drink. I only do so maybe once every couple months, but when I do, it's an all-day thing till I pass out, and I have to have music playing constantly, because alcohol renders me incapable of doing anything else, except maybe conversing with someone. When I was a heavy drinker back in the day, I used to drunken dial a lot, (or post drunkenly on line), but nowadays I am mostly content with my music and my own thoughts.

Oh, and Tom Petty for any and all occasions, be it mildly high, drunk, or stone-cold sober. That's my man!

On opiates I think nothing can beat full-volume Pink Floyd.

Oh yes, same for me on opiates but set at a soft volume with low bass. Dark Side of the Moon, as cliche as it is, is one of the best opiate albums ever.

Also, to expand on my post above, another one of my favorite opiate albums are Selected Ambient Works Vol 1 by Aphex Twin when on opiates. It really lets me slip in to another world, an opiated dreamland of sorts that's so dreamy and different that it's almost psychedelic.

Well it's only cliche cause it's so good.

I like vol.2 better than vol. 1, although they're both great and i guess they're not really comparable since they differ massively in terms of genre.

Goa trance. My faves are Lsd- hallucinogen, sonic ecstacy-electric universe also, tune up by EU.enlightened evolution-Astral Projection. And another world by AP.good shit

When nodding, nothing is better than 70s music, Jefferson Airplane and all that hippy stuff. Makes me feel nostalgic, even though I was born after that era.

On DXM, anything that's electronic and chillout, a good playlist is a very important aspect of the trip. You can discover elements of the tracks you normally wouldn't hear, it's just beautiful.

While thinking what to post i realized i like alot of fuckin music! My current faves are...
Opiates: Alice in Chains, jazz, classical
Alcohol: just about anything, but esp. Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Tom Waits, Butthole Surfers
Weed: Ice Cube, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd
Stims: Mindless Self Indulgence, NIN, Marilyn Manson
Benzos: 90s rock/grunge
Psychs: usually just put The Wall or Tool's Ænima or Lateralus on repeat for a few hours

opiates: (gipsy) jazz, blues, funk
cocaine-2/4-FA-amps: gangsta rap
benzos: anything will do
psychadelics: psychadelic rock or electronic music with a psychadelic touch
MDMA: drum n bass/jungle
keetamine: dubstep/jungle
weed: raggae/dub (bob mostly)

i don't stick religiously to these, but it gives you an idea

Favorite Album(s) to take drugs to?

I thought about putting this in NEMD but I kinda wanted to hear from the people here in DC.

What is your favorite album to smoke pot/nod out/tweak/trip to? if you have different albums for different drugs then list the drug an then the album.

My favorite album as of this moment to smoke pot to is Can - Tago Mago it's a perfect combination of jammy repetition and (Syd Barrett era) Pink Floyd-y experimentalism and progressiveness.

My favorite album to trip to is Aphex Twin - I Care Because You Do and Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 but i also like Biosphere - Shenzhou. Usually very ambient music without very many layers and that is repetitive.

My favorite opiate album is definitely Portishead - Dummy but I also like Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma. Jazzy electronica type shit.

On meth/amps/coke i like Battles - Gloss Drop
