Some questions regarding phenibut...

Having heard a lot about phenibut as a nootropic/anxiolytic/recreational drug, I decided to order 25g of the stuff (which was rather cheap, by the way). It should be arriving tomorrow.

Before I begin with my experiments with this substance, however, I have a few questions.

1. Firstly, does anyone know the density of pure phenibut? I'm getting it in the form of crystalline powder, and I need to know the density for the sake of accurate dosing.

2. I know phenibut is a GABA-b agonist, but I also read somewhere that it is a GABA-a agonist (like benzodiazepines) in high concentrations. Can anyone verify this claim?

3. Though this matter is completely subjective, which psychoactive drug(s) do the effects of phenibut most closely resemble?

4. How useful is this substance as a nootropic? Anxiolytic? What about its recreational value?

Any input would be very much appreciated.

EDIT: I'm positive that if this thread were about heroin or benzos, it would be six pages long by this point. Can someone please help me out a little?

2.) I haven't heard it was a GABAa agonist but that doesn't mean it isn't. Do you have a source?

3.) baclofen and distantly GHB/GBL and then alcohol.

4.) No idea about it's use as a nootropic, it's pretty useful as an axiolytic and not very useful recreationally except in potentiating opioids.

BTW, opioids and benzos are all that matter

Not much information on this stuff in truth but I've got some in as I'm tapering off of Benzos and read in a few places it might help:-

1.) No idea I juts weight the stuff, you need a fair amount, at least 500mgs so accuracy isn't a big issue IMO

2.) I read the same and that it has been used in Benzo withdrawal hence getting some but there is little to no real research that I could find.

3.)Mr Cane has covered it I think, I haven't dosed above 2gs and the effects are quite subtle for me

4.) Anxiolytic? - I think it has some value, Nootropic? - so the vendor's would claim but I do not believe there has been any study, personally I doubt it, if thats what your looking for there are more established substances, Piracetam for example - Recreational value? I am assuming at much higher doses yes, however ther are some reports of serious addiction with people dosing 20gs of the stuff.

In general I've been a bit under whelmed but it has proved useful on the odd occasion and stopped me falling off my benzo taper, it also definitely aids sleep. Its addiction potential must be fairly low as I don't take it everyday and my dosing hasn't increased.

I believe a few people have tried suing it for GHB / GBL withdrawal not sure how useful it has been for that, why do you want to take it, just curiosity, if so I think you will be disappointed.

There's a wide dosing range, work your way up from 300-500mg.

Some studies say yes, some say no, according to the wikipedia entry.

I find this hard to describe. Wouldn't quite compare it to a benzo... I feel that its works more at relaxing the background noise that causes anxiety if that makes any sense. Its hard to describe. The effects are subtle but if you take 1g along with lets say a beer, you will certainly know there is something to it.

4. How useful is this substance as a nootropic? Anxiolytic? What about its recreational value?

I believe the statement of it being nootropic is kind of nonsense. It will mellow you out short term but I see no long term nootropic benefits from it. If anything I feel my headed clouded the day after taking it. It does work as an anxiolytic and would say as for recreational value, it would potentiate alcohol/other downers.

That's not too far off powdered sugars. <snip> comes with a .5cc scooper and claims 300mg (or .6g/cc). That likely undercounts a bit. I tend to scoop a heaping mound, and then flatten it against lip of container, and would estimate about 350mg.

300mg is the most I personally take of phenibut.. at this dose it's great for anxiety, social situations and relaxation.

However I use it RARELY, once every few months max. 300mg still gives me a hangover, and nasty nausea later the next day.
