I need help remembering a book I read a couple years ago. It may be by a Russian author (but maybe not).

The plot: a guy wakes up in a strange hotel, he's apparently been traveling, but doesn't know why or where. He realizes that he doesn't have any of his belongings, no money, and doesn't know anybody. He attempts to talk to people, but everybody speaks gobbledegook. He goes outside the hotel, and there are just masses of people moving everywhere. Throughout the book, he realizes his terrible situation, attempts to find somebody to help him, and then he enters into some kind of crazy war-zone. I believe the book ends with him still in this predicament.

Ring any bells?

Well do you remember anything else about it?

And this was a full length novel? Your description seems like it would be stretched to fill a book.

I feel like that's a pretty complete summary of the plot.

From what I remember, it was more than a novella-- around 200 pages.

this book isn't overly obscure-- I got it out of my fairly small library...
