IMDB scores mean fuck all. Classics often get no more than 7. What someone gets out of a film is largely subjective, and looking at scores before watching a film always has a detrimental effect on my enjoyment of a film.

Sorry people kept going on about it starting it and I didn't mean to miss the mark. I thought we'd want to have a film nailed down by the weekend, so we could all err purchase it. I also thought this way would be fairer to everyone, because there will be people who won't get nominated for like 3 months with the amount of people we already have, and then there will be issues like if we chose Mugz and he chose Primer, then there would be no watching of a film that week because we've almost all seen it? I think this democratic way is a way for people to all feel more connected to it and actually watch the film, if you consider that already there are about 10-20 people who want to take part. Limiting the nominations down to 5 seems to have shown that (this week at least) we will end up with at least a few films that most of us haven't seen or wouldn't have seen, that all look pretty interesting and worth a watch.

I'm quite confident I can recommend a whole bunch of films that a lot of people havent seen, and might even like. I'm personally not interested in nomming masterpieces, because theyre easy to find, and it's not really very challenging.

Shambles mentioned in the last few posts of that thread to hold off, and I pm'd Shambles with my thoughts so that you guys could crack on if you needed to, before you posted the thread actually, but by the time he'd read it, you'd started already and decided what was going to happen.

I have no issue with you continuing on this vein at all if that's what works tbh ... if necessary we could have a different thread with a different intent and it shouldnt make a difference imo

This is starting to annoy me already tbh, I'm going with the vote a person to pick a film shout. If that's really too much of an issue for some reason then we vote a person who then gives us a choice of 3 films, which we further vote on - although that seems like too much voting just to get to one film.

Also, I imagine if we nominated PTCH he will make us all watch a film of a guy sat on a toilet for 2 hours or something just because he'd love to fuck us over like that?

although I quite like that idea, my PM to Shambles basically covered that, in that I said, as long as we have a guideline of not deliberately choosing a movie 'just to be a dick', it should work fairly well ... and the dick rule will take into account your thoughts about 'universal appeal' ... which I don;t like per se, but understand the reasoning, hence 'just don;t be a dick'

don't need to have that 2nd vote and I agree, that makes it laboursome.

Choose a poster, then they choose a film .. or a choice of films .. and you can just choose your own of the 2 options ... or both

I'll probably always watch both films a poster submits regardless, cause I'm just that kinda girl

the vote for a poster is simpler imo. but I'm qute happy for this to continue as the thread began, and I'll do another when I can be arsed ... they can work together simultaneously without stepping on any toes, so to speak

I'm not wedded to doing it that way, it's just the way that seemed common sense. I don't think i'd be too happy if I had to wait 12-15 weeks, and I think the best way to make sure the 'club' doesn't last 12 weeks is making it an autocracy week after week. This way, if someone has shit taste like I apparently do, you can not vote for my film whilst sparing my feelings.

No he didn't, can't you look at the time I started this thread and the time of his posts simultaneously or something? He made the post of hold off 4 minutes after I started this thread, which I started writing at like 6 and then submitted after I finished up a long phone call. I didn't mean to tread on anyone's toes, quite the opposite in fact.

I think however this evolves it does need to come down to us all watching the same film. No point having a choice of two or three. Then say half the folk only watch film 1 & half watch film 2, what's the point?

because we can easily deal with being able to discuss 2 movies at the same time, because it accomodates a choice for those watching, and people like choice. because you're more than likely to get more people involved with 2 choices. and a poster still gets to do their show and tell thing.

and it doesn't HAVE to be 2 films, I just think that would be helpful as an option. once a poster is chosen, they're can choose either 1 or 2 ... it makes it more flexible and flexible is good. and it wouldn't be detrimental to discussion at all. for instance, they'll be a whole buncha folks who cannot be fucked with subtitles, so a 2nd choice in those circumstance would work very well

not interested in 'well that's their problem' etc ... we can accomodate more people, with a reduced process if there's a nom the poster approach to this

I or 2 films. or poster can choose just 1. I personally would like to give an option, due to foreign content esp. would possibly always just be 1 choice. my give a fuck factor on how these things are usually done is at minus 5. my intent wasn't built on 'how things are usually done', it spawned out of something different to that. irrelevant. bored with discussion ... carry on as this thread intended. it will become obvious if things organically need to be tweaked in the future

Naked is in my top 10 fave films of all time. managed to see it in bradford on big screen a few years ago with a special screening and Mike Leigh was in the audience. he was first to arrive, I was 2nd, i almost shat my pants with excitement when I saw him
