☛ Official ☚ The Big & Dandy Scale / Balance Thread - Part 2.000±

^ slightly offtopic: can you hint me to a guide how to do that without a solution? since i cannot use 5-meo-dmt oral without a maoi (which i dont intent to do).

You could try to work with a volatile solvent. Measure the dose as volume of the liquid and evaporate the solvent in a suitable smoking device. Make sure to use a tight container for storage though, as evaporation leads to uncontrollably rising concentrations obviously.
I'd imagine, this could work and be more reliable than eyeballing.

Just out of interest, generally how accurate is a scale which (at the best) can move up in increments of 100mg's?

At the absolute best 50mg. When you find the tipping point (put some on, take some off) where the number changes, it's going from say 1.49 to 1.51. All in all, not accurate at all.

My AWS DIA-10 cost me $40 total and it's served me for well over 5 years now, on the original batteries, and it's very accurate when you get a feel for it and calibrate every time. That 0.001g capability is priceless in all drug use, especially those new or used in small doses.

It's the internet man, good scales all over and cheap. Some are crap but my AWS sure doesn't owe me anything.

I think a glass baking pan left in a well ventilated area works better. :P

If it's being a pain, light heat on the stove. Do not put a pan with volatile solvent in an oven; the fumes build up and BOOM. I lost a nice mescaline extraction years ago using methanol, the oven door blasted open revealing a blue flame from the lit tray that were quickly getting bigger and climbing to the wood above the oven. A calm me eating my breakfast at the table jumped up and was glad to know we had an extiguisher and exactly where it was. I got it and blasted the pan, ruining my extraction, saving the house, and making one huge Efffing mess which I spent the next 4 hours cleaning. That fine powder from the extinguisher gets EVERYWHERE. The pan with unevaporated solvent/mescaline was leftover from the night before and that night was tripping night, I was getting impatient as schedule wasn't going as planned. Anyways, I could have used the stovetop on low heat with the vent on and windows open. Not sure what I was thinking; live and learn. :\

Volatile solvents and ovens, just no. 8(

For DOI I Just weighed 14mg, put in a tube with 14mL of vodka. Each CC drawn with an oral syringe is 1mg.

For something like what you're talking about I'd just dilute in whatever solvent the chemical is soluble (even tap water may be acceptable, but not for tryptamines). For speed and the situation I'd just use some rubbing alcohol as the measured solvent, dump in pan, wait. For anything you intend to consume but need a non-polar solvent just use plain ethanol.(everclear in the states, alcool over in Quebec, 94 it sais in the bottle but I'm sure they do that for regulation purposes and just go till they hit the 95% azeotrope). You can have water in your mouth ready when the hopefully small volume of high proof alcohol goes in and swallow quick. I've been in situations where I didn't have water for taking the EtOH dose so I just squirted it in and swallowed quick. Burns like hell but only for a second or two, and you get used to it.

Thanks a lot for chiming in with harm reduction.

I was thinking about working in the single milliliter scale, should have made that clear!

Something along the lines of dissolving 5-MeO-DMT freebase in 99% IPA at a high concentration, so that only a few 100 µl for one dose (don't know about the actual solubility; just to have a very rough number) are needed. That amount of solvent could safely be left in e.g. a glass pipe to evaporate.
I believe TAC used a similar method for freebase DPT. He evaporated the naphtha solution on a metal mesh. That should work for 5-MeO-DMT too.

Thanks for sharing this anecdote. Flammable solvents really are no fun. Things get dangerously out of control in one second.
(A lab safety consultant jokingly warned us of using dry powder extinguishers though. The mess they produce is a bitch to clean :P)

I actually have a bit more to add :P When the door first slammed to the bottom of it's hinges and a fireball came out, the pan had a small blue alcohol flame on the liquid surface at the time and I actually stood there looking at it for 2-3 seconds thinking about what to do. [ "I put so much work into that, I gotta save it, what if I just carry it outside, the methanol will burn down, but then as the level lowers it'll also burn the extract residue. " "I can take it outside and cover it with something, smothering it." ] but by this time oxygen had returned to the area and I knew how hard it is to carry that pan without it spilling over, let alone with a growing flame on it. I knew my ideas of saving it were over as I was seeing the flames stating to lick high, and there was an oak cupboard not far above (my parents would have loved to see that).

So now I'm thinking of the best way to put it out, "pour it down the drain, lol, surface area", "pour water on it, duh, that'll just slosh it out of the pan and all over spreading it, while increasing it's surface area" Thinking about this one here typing; enough water would have diluted it and been easier to clean up but all I had was a 'kitchen sink hose', with far too low of a flow rate and was worried about water around an oven element, electricity, ect. (still on at this point; the controls were on the other side of the flame.). Awww shit, better get the extinguisher, this is going to make one hell of a mess, but it'll work, without question.

I picked up the powdered pan; took it outside, washed my work out of it with the hose. Spent the rest of the day cleaning. That stuff gets in every nook and cranny, and doesn't sweep up nicely like normal house dust or dirt/sand from outside, oh no. It's this super fine stuff that doesn't have sticky, adhesive proterties, or even static-electric properties, but it does not want to be removed from wherever it is that it currently sits.

It's a toss up to weigh a burning solvent situation, you think about what you can do and actually only use the extinguisher as a last resort.

It's a bitch. Yet, my parents came home the next day and were none the wiser. I was shitting bricks figuring they'd notice something, a burn mark I didn't see, a tiny bit of this weird powder here, but nope, all was well, I think we even used the oven that night.

Your comment really caught me off guard; "Since when do you evaporate a solution of something in a smoking device?" [as in putting DMT laden naphtha right into the screen of a machine]

But yeah I could see a measured chemical in solution in a freebase pipe or my version; test tube. Heat, evaporate aliquot of liquid; vaporize chemical. Cool man, I may end up using that idea sometime. :)

question about milligram scales

are they supposed to measure exactly accurate? my scale is fluctuating between 1-8 milligrams for the same object. does anybody have tips on the type of surface or location to measure more accurate?

Some mg scales just arent accurate and are off by that much... i spent like 300 on my mg scale i forget who makes it but the model name is ay123 if u google it youll find it... its probly only off by 2-4mg if that maybe only 1-2mg its off

Yiu just have to have a flat surface and dont use near fluorecent lights they can throw it off. And mine is ac powered you should always keep it plugged in, supposedly using it when its not plugged in for at least 24a hours can causw some innaccuracies

The corner of a room is usually the most level. Make sure to avoid drafts & be at least 5-6' away from cell phones, radios, etc. I use two relatively cheap models & cross check for accuracy.

I noticed that the price difference on ebay between the cheap Chinese scales 0.01 - x00 (x=1,2 or 3) isn't much. Which is recommended and why? I'm not looking for an uber accurate scale (that would be impossible with that price I think), reliability is more important.

Hey guys, I already have a semi decent scale, a Blade - 100 (100 x 0.01g) bought at a head shop for $40. I've been browsing the net, looking for a decent 0.001g scale. I wish I could afford this one: http://www.saveonscales.com/products-page/100th/scm211black/ it must be pretty good since it's not even in stock lol. But that's out of my price range. I was thinking of buying this, even though it's only $20, would be good to travel with: http://www.saveonscales.com/products-page/100th/scprocell110/ So here are some of the ones I've been looking to purchase: http://www.zieis.com/0001-Gram-Scales-1mg-C399.aspx?gclid=CIupl8DH1LECFWyHtgodAR8APw This next one is kinda ugly, but has received great customer reviews: http://www.amazon.com/American-Weig...&qid=1344311018&sr=1-3&keywords=0.0001g+scale Here is a really cheap one, I don't really trust 0.001g to anything under $100ish...but it does have some good reviews: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/digital-precision-scale-20g-max-0-001g-resolution-10515 This one looks pretty decent, kinda ugly, but ok: http://balance.balances.com/scales/1422 I'm gonna check out ebay and see if there are any killer deals. Any input or advice for the most accurate and affordable scale(s) would be greatly appreciated....also for the lil 20$ one that looks like a cell phone....would it be a waste of money? $20 isn't that much, and I honestly only really like it cuz of it's portability and size lol

A 40 dollar scale on a headshop is a 5 dollar scale online... dont underestimate the 20-40 dollar milligram scales on amazon etc... they work fine for any substance ive ever taken more than 5mg of... seem to be accurate to within a mg or two at most... about the same as the 100 dollar models... over 250 bucks the quality and accuracy will improve only slightly... mainly just more ergonomic and better built :)

Get to know me and Help with a Decision

To bluelight members,

I need help! I have one really important question for all you smart bluelighter readers out there. I bet this forum's average IQ is above 100, maybe even 115 and in the top 20th% tile in forums globally. But having somewhat higher IQs doesn't mean we're invincible from doing stupid shit. Ha! Quite the contrary, may even do more. Nevertheless, I need help figuring out which scale to get, even though I'm leaning towards one, but more importantly, which website to get the scale from. The questions are at the bottom of the post after I explain why I'm indecisive, but read first! (skip personal intro if somewhat short on time).

Personal Introduction/Drug History/Scale situation(roughly in that order):

Hey guys, I haven't been posting (I've had 20-50 posts per username over the last decade using a new username every couple years, so not a regular contributor & it's very unlikely the regulars would recognize me) but I've been reading copious amounts of posts & threads for the last 10 years, not quite since it's inception, in 1999, but pretty close, and I am obviously in love. You don't hang around that long if you don't love it on some level :D. I will start posting more now that I'm taking this college semester off to help my mother and I'll have free time.

I'm 26, male, in college, between jobs, spent 4 years in the military (C.S.A.R. aka combat search and rescue, in a nutshell it's a special forces medic) so it's hard to get a 'non-military-esque' job with my credentials, so I'm looking to be a C.O. (correctional officer @ a prison) for a job. The medical portion of my training was before I become a serious and heavy drug user. So, as a newbie in the special training, I became encapsulated by medicine, learning the life saving skills and knowledge of pharmacology required to properly execute that job, therefore, as I write on bluelight consider I may know a thing or two about pharmacology (still feel retarded in the grand scheme of things because the human body still trumps our knowledge) which is what guided me down the path of drug use. I still remember when I consciously made the choice to become a drug addict. The very moment. In my bathroom with a tourniquet wrapped around my arm starring at the needle on the head of the toilet. Drug addiction didn't creep up on me, I ignorantly made the choice with thinking "well that's terrible for the small percentage of people who receive permanent & temporary brain damage (basically including but not limited to deregulation of receptors that we can't reverse at this point in time with technology's current standing) from substance abuse but that won't happen to me." Ha, well it happened, in the hole forever now. I just loved drugs 'on paper' and needed to feel them to satisfy the curiosity urges I got while learning about them in minute detail, ultimately just the fascination of it all down to the molecular level. Unbeknownst to me, I was in for a wild ride, and not all the turns were good on that roller coaster either. Some whiplash turns, I just hope I don't break my neck(OD and die or lose everything including relationships)! Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics are really what gets me going (defined as the human body interacting with the drug and vice versa). I never touched anything but alcohol and pot until I was 17, did it for 2 years and stopped at 19. And the pot and alcohol was very limited and I didn't enjoy it as much as everybody else did. I was focusing on my athletic ability (football SS & hockey goalie). But the last 5 years have been moderate to heavy use at times but also with stretches of nothing and a very healthy lifestyle. I am very disciplined about taking breaks and using moderation with drugs so I'll stop all recreational drugs & body build for a couple months before returning. So a heavy user at times, only thing I had an issue with in my life as far as drugs is with opiates. For this reason I've been on Suboxone for the last 2 years and it's worked out wonderfully. I try hard to avoid daily use of anything because I've been though the worse withdrawals a human can, within reasonable parameters, and never want to feel that way again, plus it's not healthy, risk of OD. It definitely cuts off years of your life. I have been doing meth a lot (relatively a lot) recently though (more on that). I party with benzos whenever I can get them but apply moderation so I never build a tolerance. I also use them for anxiety attacks, which I don't think I'd have the attacks right now {have G.A.D.} if I didn't abuse MDMA that one night @ age 21 and abuse opiates from 21-22.5 years old. The first time I ever did MDMA, I did ~ 8 doses worth of pure MDMA powder straight from my friend's friend who were both Chemists & old college buddies. The friend had a masters in Chemistry and built his own lab{not for distribution but for use by him & his friends} so the purity was insane, no cut whatsoever. Such a small amount of powder and the MDMA hit ya like a ton of bricks in the face, the ultimate euphoria, not just the beginnings of it, THE FULL effect within 15 seconds(of IV). The switch from sober to rolling in about 12 seconds was the most amazing thing ever in my life. What do y'all think the purity was? The "yield", if you will, 70-85%?. I was injecting all night; it was ~7 hours of what the ends and beginnings of what orgasms feels like, and what the middle of the big O feels like the minute after an injection. I've come to the conclusion that human beings were never meant to feel that good!. Recently within the last 2 years I party with coke and meth. I IV most of the time, if it's somewhat safely shootable(fake word). Love the needle. Loved it before I shot up for the first time, that happened like this: when I was in medical school I loved doing anything with a needle to a patient as a Paramedic. It's even alright getting stuck (too much is awful). 90% of the time using needles I'm very safe and smart, like a MOFO'ing surgeon! I feel blessed I was able to learn the medical side prior to turning druggy, and even feel blessed having the knowledge/training regardless. Coke I did occasionally from 22 to 25 and a half but my mom wanted me to cut down so I did(very open relationship with mother). I did meth only twice in my whole life (very small amounts) up until 3 months ago, and have done it like 7 times since the 2 months, 8o . I only went too far once and I had psychosis for a couple days. I learned my lesson there. Never happen again. I avoid binging with stimulants because after approx. 2 days you're basically wasting the *smeagol voice* 'precious' drug anyway. How? As some of you know, your brain literally becomes exhausted of essential neurotransmitters so you get the same stimulation (take into acct. tolerance and habituation) but not the same euphoria. Norepinephrine and dopamine releasing agents can drain you, in the same manner MDMA drains your serotonin stores (as well as inhibits the re-uptake @ the synaptic cleft). Daily use of MDMA causes the drop off in euphoria in a dramatic fashion each day not to mention it's extremely neurotoxic and you will definitely get permanent damage from that type of abuse at some point if continued most likely manifesting itself as an anxiety disorder. To combat becoming famished when using stimulants, which is inevitable, but one can slow it down so I force myself to eat and sleep periodically after a 2 day go, before I start again I make sure I'm recovered, say, on average 80%. I have never done stimulants 3 days in a row for this reason. The length of my partying with coke is usually 24-40 hours on average and meth is ~48 hours. Meth much worse for insomnia due to long half life especially relative to coke's short one so it's harder to binge on white for me plus I don't really have the desire to. Binging on meth is OK if you have experience and/or wisdom. Fuck that hallucinating shit! Shadow people are coming watch out! You know they ain't there but they still can scare ya occasionally!

(SKIPPERS START HERE)

Here's my segue, and the decision I have to make which I can use your help on. For a couple reasons I want to get into the Research Chemical (RC) business. Less illegal activity so I can come clean with my landlord/best friend who I'm hiding my illegal drug use from even though he knows my history and knows I get high once in a while, and also knows about the needles (weird situation huh?). He's a SpecOps medic as well & still in the military. The most profound reason to explore RC's is I want ample, perhaps copious amounts of a stimulant so I can use them for schoolwork in college. My remaining years would be so much more fun if I was able to have amphetamine analogues, which are cheaper than street speed/meth, for concentration and motivation on classes I dislike. I wouldn't abuse them(to escape or replacing depression with euphoria, use for no reason, boredom), just simply 2 days a week being extremely productive, then lounge, go to class and bodybuild the other 5 days. My GPA will soar I'm sure. Those are couple of essential reasons. Now, the history is over, onto

THE ISSUE AT HAND:

I am finally ready after years of putting it off, to invest in a quality scale specifically for substances I deal with(and the aforementioned reasons explained about RCs). Money is not that big of an issue but I'm not willing to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars (over 300$). Price range up to 200$. Possibly up to 230$ if it's on clearance and I'm saving hundreds. I do not want a cheap one, i.e. under 100$ assuming quality and price have a linear correlation, for my main one. I will be buying a secondary mini/pocket for a rough estimation on the go, it'll be a .001 scale (it means it weighs @ milligram intervals, .01 is by 10 mg intervals, .1 is by 100mg intervals). To try and get help about the world of scales in which my knowledge is embarrassing, I started by reading through multiple threads that had hundreds of posts on multiple websites which took me a week(but bluelight is the only one I respect enough to post on). My understanding is there are 2 scales in contention online among drug 'forumites,' if you will. Acculab's Vic-123 and My Weigh's GemPro 250. The Acculab's Vic-123 has a slightly better reputation upon first glance than the My Weigh GemPro 250 and the Acculab costs more money buy like 43%. That is, the Gem Pro 250 is 57% of the cost of the Acculab. The reason the reputation is perceived by most as better is because the GemPro 50 was overall inconsistent and a little faulty, just overall shitty compared to the Acculab. But to be fair I think it was much cheaper as well. But as I sifted through it seemed My Weigh fixed this over the years with later versions and now they are comparable. The GemPro 250 is on sale on a website right now for 135$ which seems like somewhat of a steal from the normal 165$. I'd like to have a scale that doesn't have to remain plugged in, so as not to raise suspicion. Leaving it out is OK I guess, but not too clandestine, but, like I said, if I go the RC root I'm not breaking any laws of possession, purchase, or trafficking, therefore my roomies won't care and I can leave it out and plugged in(apparently from my gatherings with digital scales, especially "precise" ones, they should be plugged in 24/7, as mentioned before) or as much as possible for a variety of reasons to make it easier on the user. Plus upon every start up they need to warm up for a few minutes, at least five, some wait as much as thirty, so you can eliminate the start up if it remains on. I can also use it for illicit drugs like meth and coke and with the RC cover up I won't have to explain powder and a scale if I get sloppy with my sneakiness. It should be fun to weigh my intravenous doses down to the milligram, in a precise fashion, after doing IV drugs for years with no such instrument. Unfortunately it may perhaps may facilitate me in doing more drugs because I'll feel like a maaaaaaaaaaaaaad scientist. Get addicted to a substance like I said earlier I will not and have been successful so far. Oh ya and not to mention adding to the ritual which I should be taking away from =D . A good thing is RC's can look like coke or meth anyway (more like meth, that white crystalline powder most RCs are like I presume). So back to which scale,

Acculab Vic-123- $236-$290 Would be paying minimum. (MSRP $435 apparently from a half shady website)
GemPro 250- $135-$170 Would be paying minimum. (couldn't find MSRP)
Both have a resolution of .001 mg which is the minimum precision you should go with RC's (for obvious reasons), a centigram scale won't work because it will read in intervals of 10mg so a non-broken one will probably be 5mg off when they are off, not to take into account inconsistency and error. Capacity is 50g for GemPro and 120g for Acculab. However, I will never need to go above 50...Plus I've heard the higher the max and/or the bigger the range the less accurate which makes some sense. Anyway, I have a low-ish but dependable quality food scale that weighs to the gram if I have something that heavy. Here is where I need help. Ebay offers the "GemPro" (the seller wrote Pro Gem instead of GemPro in every instance, and the pictures he has don't match the real product) for $70 + 10$ shipping =80$ with a this selling record (17,325 positive, 297 neutral, and 310 negative) and it claims new, in box, with tags. A separate website offers it for $135+8$=143$. Scales need to be taken care of, almost anally, especially digital scales because moving them and knocking them around like in transportation can Fck them up. This guy selling them on Ebay, I don't know if the guy moved houses or had sloppy non-fragile shipping to him. It can permanently mess them up. So is it worth the piece of mind to spend double, well, not quite, it would be 1.7 times as much to get the higher priced one, compared to 58% of that for the Ebay one. You can assume the private website (www.oldwillknottscales.com) took better care of it since their entire business is scales ONLY, right? Long winded question, I mean to say, is it worth the extra 63$? I know we have different lives so factors are different, but I'm not in any debt to give you a slim idea of my financial life, 0 debt. Another factor, an Ebay delivery will take exorbitantly longer because this guy is in China compared to the Knott Scales Co. in the USA.
Sartorious shut down Acculab and the Vic-123 has been resurrected as the Sartorious AY123. You can still find them online though, but ya gotta look.

I emailed the Ebay guy with the Gem Pro, here is my email then his, mine is kinda long as I wanted to act a certain way since my guess is he's a southeast Asia, china, japan area guy who learned English as his 2nd language and he's trying to rip off Americans online using Ebay on some purchases. These types of people are usually the ones scamming people in emails with various techniques. Emails:

To *ebay name,* (which is "pretty_temptation" which doesn't sound professional at all)

Hi, name's NAME. (here I tell him I'm a disabled US veteran {which is true} and that I have some time on my hands for a hobby which I need a scale for) I need an ACCURATE mg scale to measure the strong medicine powder I'll be taking. By the way, if ya speak English I would like to talk with you on the phone about buying the GemPro250 digital scale. Upon shopping I narrowed it to two scales. Acculab/Sartorious Vic-123 is the other.
There are a few things that concern me, & make me think you are trying to get away with foul behavior. If you are I don't care just lemme know now so we can move on. Your pics don't match what the actual product looks like. There is no "GemPro 250, Precision" in the top right corner. No "My Weigh" in the top left. Your pics look like you took them off of some other site. Why'd you write "Pro Gem" not 'GemPro' which is right. I like your price, but seeing that the other prices are WAY higher it smells like to good to be true, but please prove me wrong. I only think somewhat negatively because I've never used Ebay before, so I can be way off base. But I need reassurance then I can buy from you. I'll wait 2 full days (48 hours) then if no response I will execute my original plan which was buying from the online company for 135$ per scale with a 30 year warranty.

Cordially,

NAME

His response:

Dear NAME
Thank for your email,I have come to pay my respects to you for your heroic history first.
We sold few hundred digital scales to different parts of the world on past few years, received so much favorable comment and no one returned, you can inquire about our feedback.
In my experience,if you in order the scale to measure the medicine powder is more than sufficient.
Our product exactly the same as "my Weigh gempro 250" on accuracy and function, but not any relationship, and you will pay only half the price.
Don't worry anything,we provide guaranteed forever.

Best regards
Shirley

What the fuck is this guy talking about? He doesn't even answer my questions. RED FLAG and god damn that's why I don't use Ebay. And what the fuck with the praising me because I helped my country with years of my service? Scum bag if he actually is a scammer. But, he could be totally legit and just not have good English. This is where regardless of if you answer my questions at least give me your scoop on what you think is going on..
So, decision time, you ready?

1) Buy GemPro 250 or Acculab Vic-123/Sartorious AY-123?
2) Regardless of which scale, since I can buy either online with more shopping and will get the same prices, Ebay or private dealer?

My answers:
1) GemPro 250
2) private dealer (Willknott scales)

THANKS SO MUCH!!! Bluelight rules! If i broke rules doing this somehow then let me know and I will kindly follow a moderator's requests.

The Acculab VIC-123 was discontinued, AFAIK. However, the Sartorius M-Prove AY123 is identical to that scale, costs only slightly more and looks nicer. Be aware that this is a strain-gauge balance and therefore not as responsive or accurate as a force-restore one. If possible, make do with a cheap milligram scale for now ($20-40 on-line), save more money and buy a force-restore one later on, as these are much better.

The AWS Gemini Pro (not the Gemini 20!) is a real quality scale for the price. I was very pleasantly surprised, and would easily rank it as the best scale for under $100. It has an official tolerance of +-3mg, and it's really nice to even see them admit to an official tolerance, and it sticks to this tolerance. In fact, the vast majority of the time it is only +-1mg, and it often gives spot on accurate measurements. I have a boat that weighs exactly 1.703, and it almost always registers as exactly 1.703, occasionally going to 1.704 and if uncalibrated the most it ever registers as is 1.706. I can't say enough good things about this scale for the price.

I used to use a gemini 20 and had no idea what I was missing out on. My gemini 20 was crap compared to this, and I didn't even know until I bought this. The difference between a tolerance of +-3mg and +-10mg is just enormous. For under $100 I really don't think you can find a better scale than this, unless you find a really good deal on a gempro 250 or something. This gemini pro weighs 2C-E very accurately and easily even in the 5mg range. Like I said, most of the time it sticks to within +-1mg, and it never goes beyond +-3mg. Handle it with care though, don't bang this thing around, be gentle like you should with any scale.

Having said that, some day I plan on investing hundreds on a submilligram scale.
