Cleaning screens?

Oh hey guys, what's goin on. Long time no posty for me in these parts.

I'm gonna get all serious now and ask the big question - I like to use the little metal screens in my bowls when I smoke my bong. Problem is they're all resiny and black and kind of hard to smoke through. Now I know your thinking go out and buy some more you cheap fuck! I'd love to but I spent more money than I have and i'm left with pretty much no spare cash at all (not even 50p for a pack of screens, woooe is me. :( )

Now i'm wondering seeing as i've collected loads of these shitty horrible used screens - is there anything I can do (besides scraping with a pin) to clean these fookers up and get a nice smooth toking bong setup for my day off? I Was thinking soak them all in hot water, or find some high proof alcohol and try that.

but me being cautious figured ask the ye olde forum a la stoner, so here it is! Please & thanks. :D
 
I'd imagine soaking them in rubbing alcohol for a while, then washing them off with some hot water might do the trick. Those screens tend to fall apart after awhile though. I've personally never used screens, I either got a glass gauze, or if the hole is small enough, stick a small nug in the hole, or maybe even throw a tiny bit of tobacco in the very bottom to prevent any bud from falling through. I think screens are there simply for convenience.
 
^ Seems to have worked alright my friend, 10 minutes soaking in alcohol, followed by a quick rinse / scrape and I have myself a big ass pile of almsot clean screens. :) You were right about them falling apart but in total I only lost like 3.

I Used to smoke the same way as you with the nug/bacca functioning as a screen. Your right I do it this way mainly for convenience. Uhh, problem solved I guess. Cheers :)
 
I use gardening wire to poke through the holes and then heat it to red hot glowing (sometimes it even starts to burn and it smells like the baddest piece of hash you have ever smelled burning)
 
Have an old sieve in your house? cut it up and use it :) .. As for cleaning it, I just give mine a quick scrub in the sink , seems to do the job ...
 
I usually pick the screen up with plyers and put it into a large flame on the stove, which turns all the resin into ash in a second or two. Then I just blow off the ash, and I'm left with a screen that's good as new. :)
 
I just scrape the screen with a needle, smoke any weed that's already stuck to the screen, and it clears through quick.

You can also put the screen only 75% of the way over the hole in the bowl; this way there's going to be some room that doesn't completely get covered by the screen. This prevents it from clogging.

You can also keep using new screens every few bowl packs, which is a nice alternative if you're getting them for free. :D
