Looking for some help with back pain. I have compressed discs and bones spurs/arthritis. Looking for a type of medical weed that lets me function (can think straight) through the day where I can still garden and do normal things without making me a dumb couch potato. New green card holder 57 yrs old male but dont have a clue what i should be looking/asking for when going to the dispensary. Thanks

The most important factor in maintaining good cognition is not using too much cannabis, regardless of strain. It's best to use just enough weed to achieve pain relief, and then put it away. Also, use a vaporizer to avoid toxic byproducts of combustion, with the added bonus being that many anecdotal reports indicate vaporizers produce a high that is more "clear headed" than smoking.

As for the strain, I think its best to just ask the budtender to show you some of their current high-end stock. Ask them which they personally think is the best strain in stock at the moment, and then compare that strain to some others. At the end of the day, you can't go wrong if you buy a potent strain with a nice appearance and a great smell. I know that's vague advice, but most dispensary talk is BS, and the variation between strains, and even between sativa and indica buds, is pretty small. Any potent strain will give you relief, especially if your tolerance is pretty low. After some experimentation, you may find that you get more pain relief from consuming certain strains versus others, but its just a small difference, and its more just a matter of personal preference.

An imperfect analogy would be to cigarette brands -- all of them will work, and essentially do the same thing, but some people intensely prefer one brand over others -- because minor variations such as flavor, cigarette length, density of the smoke, etc etc are very important parts of the overall effect due to psychological associations. Of course this analogy is not rock solid, because cannabis strains vary not only in flavor but in their proportional content of a complex mixture of pharmacologically active terpenes. But like I said, the variations will be minor between any sufficiently potent strains, because all will contain a bunch of CBD and THC, which are the main therapeutic components of cannabis (at least the main ones with any good research to back up their efficacy).

I feel like I've rambled a bit.. I'm high right now myself. :D

Thanks for the reply... very helpful! I'm confused on all the various medical strains. Have not really been around weed since the 70's and its so overwelming!!!... Like I mentioned I need a strain that doesnt screw me up much and can work outside and THINK and be motivated without anxiety etc. A friend of mine mentioned the crossed strains?? dont know where to even begin. Thanks

Just take the 'ask the budtender' part , that's the main thing , they're the experts , tell them exactly what kind of high u want , tell them the way u want it to effect u , basically just tell them what u told us and Ull be leaving with better stuff than we could ever recommend .

^Indeed. In the end, its all about finding which strain works best for you. Certain types of strains are better for pain, etc...but everybody reacts differently to different kinds of weed. Don't worry about not having smoked since the 70s, the people at the cannabis club will be able to help you find the best strain for you.

Is Budtender a website?.... I did try something with lots of red hairs and it felt like it had reduced inflamation a great deal and I slept better. I didnt like that fact that it made me really DUMB. I dont like that feeling.

Budtenders are the cannabis dispensary equivalent of those "geniuses" at Apple Store Genius Bars. Budtenders are basically experts, the go-to guys in pretty much every dispensary you go to. They'll be able to explain the products in detail, and they should be able to get a feel for your situation and point you in the direction of the store's best products available to treat your particular medical issue(s).

Thanks for the info Jibult.... at the dispensary I was reccomended "Jack Herer" and bought some of that... it was exactly what I was looking for in daytime/working motivation use. Also bought some "Hawaiian Gold" another sativa for daytime use which I have not tried.

This is why I love bluelight, genuine honest advice from people who actually know their shit - helping out a pain patient with his questions.

Any other weed forum - thousands of idiots would post "LOL U DNT WNA GET HIGH WTF????" But good old BL keeps it real.

Off topic I know, just made me happy :)

Another thing I'll have to say... when I'm in pain my blood pressure goes into the 150/95 range.... I can bring it into the 120-72 range after a few minutes of smoking the strong indica strain I was getting during the winter for pain.
