The "American" parts of BL

I've tried, really really tried, to spend time reading other parts of BL but I just can't do it. Some observations -

1 - EVERY post mentions school. Why do they all still go to school? Even at 35?
2 - They all still live with their parents and are scared stiff of mommy finding their stashes
3 - They all have massive collections of oxy/hydrocodone/hydromorphone/fentanyl etc
4 - Everyone has ADD/Asbergers and scripts for Ritalin/Adderall

It's just so fucking annoying, so much so that Id rather sit re-reading old EADD threads than venture across to the rest of the forum. Anyway, just wanted to vent my frustration. Apologies for spelling and grammar, slightly wasted right now (can probably tell!).

I wouldn't go as far as that really.

Certainly there are elements of other BL forums which aren't to my tastes (or those of other EADD regulars) but that's certainly a distorted view of America and Americans you've got there.

Ever considered that certain specific things piss you off and you're allowing them too much of your attention? I can't see why any of the points you listed is something to get especially exercised about to be honest. Mild irritation at worst, and that's pushing the boat out. Maybe that's just me.

We have a couple of EADD mods and a senior mod who work on 'other' sections of BL and do an excellent job both here and there. I'll leave them to explain how the makeup of their forums is probably not quite as you seem to perceive them.

1 - Every post mentions uni. Why do they still go to uni? Even at 35?
2 - They all live in apartments and drive very small cars (or they don't have cars at all)
3 - They all have massive collections OTC codeine, and mephedrone/NRG-123/ethylmeffcathionedrone/whatever new RC just came out, etc
4 - Everyone has alcoholism and scripts for Valium from Pakistan.

;)

I have nothing against America or Americans, I just know before clicking a topic that one or more of the above points will be mentioned. Its just a light hearted observation, not full blown anti-US hatred!

Can we really deny any of these charges? :D

Touché!! Apart from point two, we have flats!

But these are all great things to have.

Also by 'the American parts', are you referring to NASADD?

Of course not. Notice how I'm not denying any of the charges in the OP's post...and no, I don't have access to Ritalin, but I know countless sources for Adderall and Dexedrine. Also, don't forget about "shake n' bake meth".

Ahh, that's the word!

Seriously though, have you ever been to the United States (assuming that's what you meant by "America")? There are lots of different people here, it is huge compared to the United Kingdom (and every other country in Europe) and has very different regional characteristics.

aha! So true

Well it's nothing new or surprising that they're the most overmedicated country in the world. The interests of the pharmaceutical companies dominate the whole healthcare system.

What annoys me is that there seems to be people on those boards who will jump down people's necks for taking a 'recreational' dose of a recreational drug, whilst gobbling down drugs prescribed for a bogus diagnosis of ADHD, or whatever, like sweeties.

How else do you show love for your children, if not by getting them prescribed amphetamines from a very early age?

Nah, I was browsing BDD this morning after downing my OTC codeine ;) and started to notice a few recurring themes! I think my tone came across wrong, I was only having a bit of light hearted fun. I actually went to uni in Atlanta (did American studies, seemed like a good idea at the time!) so have a number of good friends from the states.

Let's not get into the argument over what consititutes a 'bogus' diagnosis and maybe leave it to the relevant professional practitioners, shall we? There's no way you can diagnose somebody over the internet based on a BL post, therefore you declaring their diagnosis 'bogus' is pretty absurd if you think about it. Especially if (as I'm assuming) you're not one of the aforementioned professionals.

As for the 'recreational vs. therapeutic' use debate, we do get that in EADD too - check the benzo thread for starters.

Maybe the fact that UK / EU doctors face more restrictions on what they can prescribe means there's less scope for clashes on that kind of front, but I can guarantee you the same tensions would arise were dexamphetamine (for example) widely-scripted over here.

^Interesting point (er, to spudgun's reply - and I agree with you about part of it). OP, I couldn't resist my initial reply, don't take it (too) personally. :)

I would much rather do prescription drugs than RCs. That being said, I do enjoy etizolam and a few others.

OTC opiates sounds lovely, though.

The scope for being prescribed various forms of medicine for ADD in America is ridiculous. You basically go in and say "I have trouble focusing" and in a lot of cases that seems to be enough. They prescribe oxys for broken bones and teeth extractions in some places... there is little doubt that over prescribing is a very big issue in America. Unless of course their pain is actually 10x worse than everyone elses and they suffer from ADD at 50x the rate of the rest of the world.

noticed this too...

If you want a boring part of bl to read check out od :d same 10 threads non-stop =d

naturalnews) nearly half of all americans now use prescription drugs on a regular basis according to a cdc report that was just released (1). Nearly a third of americans use two or more drugs, and more than one in ten use five or more prescription drugs regularly.

The report also revealed that one in five children are being regularly given prescription drugs, and nine out of ten seniors are on drugs.

m'erica .. Fuck yeah

Also Id like to point out you have to point out that you are talking about a drug/situation by stating which country you are talking about first, or 100% of the people reading will think you are talking about america. "Oh yeah, which state?" All news articles in the Drugs in the Media If do no start with an [Aus] or [UK] are American, fun hey but its an american site no? Or am I misunderstood.

I was given a 60x 5/500 Vicodin prescription when my wisdom teeth were extracted, jelly? They also tried to put me on SSRIs but I ripped the script up in front of the doctor. Took the Xanax script offered instead.

Be more jealous ;)
