Khat chat v: the feelings mutual

Can khat be smoked, plugged, sublingual'd, danced around etc or is it only active orally?

you just chew and chew the fucker all day long. With your spitoon next to ya.

it's apparently very difficult to extract the cathinone, so you just chew it.

I'm a fuckin expert already!!! =D
 
Is this stuff available in Manchester? I've wanted to try it for years, just to see if I really do hate cathinone as much as I think I do - with meph and methylone in mind. A gentle high would be nice, rather than a kick-you-in-the-face high.
 
It's often to be found where Somalis are... I bought some from a convenience store, part of a small national chain, and it came up on the till as 'qat' which surprised me. This was London.

Then I took it to a blues bar to consume with friends but had got the wrong end of the stick (literally) re consumption so chewed the stems and discarded the leaves and got fuck all out of it bar shoes full of leaves.

A friend spent some time in the Yemen and did a lot of late night card games fuelled by it- he said you have to chew forever and keep adding more leaves and that it's subtle but you eventually reach a more alert and sociable state.

I wonder if there's any way of potentiating it with mild acids as with coca leaves?
 
It really doesn't seem worth the effort whatsoever. Unless that eventual subtle alert state is very focused and productive.
 
Look, if you all want a mad grinding, gurning, eye wobbling stim, get coke, speed, or obviously best of all, meph.

If you want a tickle of an afternoon while you're on the booze and weed in an allotment, khat is prob the one you'd want.

I've never tried it. That's just how I see it.

You guys should upgrade to vitamin C tablets. Pop one in your water and drink it fast, you catch a natural buzz and it's good fun. Each one is usually around 1000% of the GDA so it hits you like a brick. The leftovers get pissed out. No comedown.

There are some Somali general stores not too far from me. I might go in and see what they've got. As im not a Somali General though they may not serve me. Where did i put my war medals ?

Yeah the impression I get is that it puts you in a good mood and wakes you up, neither to the point where you'd have to hide from a policeman. So probably good for the purposes you describe, MM.

Don't know quite where it originated, but it seems to be fairly common among former colonies of European imperial powers (Sudan, Lebanon, Ukraine etc.). Maybe something to do with a country being objectified as a piece of land rather than a nation with its own customs and all the rest that entails?

I remember something either in the Guardian years ago about it, with specific reference to Sudan, but time and alcohol have dulled the memory significantly.

Might as well just skip the khat altogether and make Methcathinone instead. It's a pretty straight forward synthesis.
 
Haven't read the entire thread but have read enough to want me to correct some fallacies here.

Khat cannot be grown successfully in this country. Anyone who thinks it can be is wrong. And if they think they are right then maybe they should go visiting Somali communities here, indeed all over the northern hemisphere, where displaced Somalis have the plant flown into them daily from Kenya and Ethiopia. Daily because the plant needs to be super fresh or it won't work.

A khat plant takes 9 years to mature. It needs terraces and humongous amounts of water. In Yemen, the biggest argument against the drug is that it allegedly takes something like 50 per cent of the country's water supply to grow it successfully.

9 years to mature and then has to be eaten (chewed) within 24 hours. 48 maximum. Beyond this it is largely inactive and certainly inedible. Hence the plane that arrives daily, Monday to Friday, from Addis Ababa to Heathrow.

In the UK RC culture that demands instant results from a powder shoved quickly up the nose, this drug is not for you. 9 years to grow and hours to chew. Though those who chew it right will begin to feel the effects within about 30 minutes (but still need to chew for hours to get the full effects).

Isolating methcathinone will not give you the same effects as khat. Khat is more than methcathinone. Making a brew from the leaves will actually create the opposite, an opiate like nod.

I said successfully Knockando. I could grow a straight up cannabis plant in my kitchen window, doesn't mean the grass will be any good y'ken?

As I said, if you believe you are right then please go tell all the Somalis your secret so they don't have to wait for the Ethiopia plane every day as they have done for 20 years.

Maybe you don't exist after all....
