Khat chat v: the feelings mutual

it tastes like privit :(, you have to chew it until your jaw hurts before it takes effect and it is not all that stimulating if you've tried anything stronger than coffee before. I probably did not chew it for long enough due to the rancid taste, got no intention to try it again either.

I'd be all over it if I was a Somali pirate needing to be alert while waiting long hours in my rubber dingy for an oil tanker to pass, but as i'm not it can fuck off

Nah it's not rancid at all watsons! Some people are very sensitive to bitter tastes though. Kratom, that's rancid. I really don't mind Khat.

Worth quoting. From what I've heard, its nothing special if you've had stronger stimulants (prescription amphetamines, methamphetamine, mephedrone, etc)...but its still going to do something. As others have said, potency varies a lot since it is a plant.

did you buy yours from a somali/yemeni market or shop watsons?

I know a lot of shops in big cities sell it to the local communities, but I've read that its crucial that the leaves are as fresh as possible, they are airfreighted over here for freshness.

If knock has his own growing, it's likely to be more potent , straight off the plant, than something that might have been picked 7 days previous, or even longer, packed, and so crushed, broken up the plant cells etc.

I dunno, just thinkin aloud.

^ That's right MM, the cathinone rapidly breaks down to the weaker cathine. Even my plant isn't a good example as the fucker is a tree which is supposed to put down a massive root, mine can't do that as it's in a pot and it's more like a pathetic bush. (Plus I'm in Scotland, not exactly the native climate.) But I get a few red leaves and those are the ones I eat, and I do feel it.

Is it easy to grow? I like the idea of growing me own mephedrone ;)

and is it legal to grow? I guess so?

seeds? cuttings?

Hang on, I'll use google :)

thanks though knowck, its not something I'd ever thought of growing, reckon it'd like our climate down here.?

I grew mine from seed. Piece of piss really: plenty sun, well drained (preferably deep for the long root) soil, plenty water though. Not sure how it copes with frost but it's a mountain plant so I reckon it'll be hardy. yes I think it would be better down your way! Maybe in a greenhouse?

Yeah and don't get your hopes up it really isn't a mephedrone tree! But it's fun to grow drug plants anyway.

And I also <3 wuv <3 whoever moved this thread to EADD!

I'd never even have thought of it, thought about buying some dry leaves when I used to live in Coventry, few shops sold them, but heard so mch about the diminishing potency I thought it wouldn't be worth the bother.

Also, i'm guessing knock, the chewing isn't such hard work when the leaves are fresh as opposed to part dessicated?

You still chew it round and round for ages though yeah?

This is my favourite new thread of the month, year, a length of time....whatever.

%)

I got it from an african general goods shop, it did look like it had wilted a fair bit. just read that ideally it needs to be chewed within 48 hours of picking. I probably got sold old stock :sus:

quite like the idea of growing it though, i need to expand my botanical garden beyond a lonely salvia plant

Gentleman lovelies you is lazy khat manz :p

United Kingdom

Although concerns have been expressed by commentators, health professionals and community members about the use of khat in the UK, particularly by immigrants from Somalia, Yemen and Ethiopia, currently it is not a controlled substance.[50][51] As a result of these concerns, the Home Office commissioned successive research studies to look into the matter, and in 2005, presented the question of khat's legal status before the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. After a review of the evidence, the expert committee recommended in January 2006 that the status of khat as a legal substance should remain for the time being.[50]

In 2008, Conservative politician Sayeeda Warsi stated that a future Conservative government would ban khat.[52] The website of the Conservative Party, which is now the largest party in a coalition government in the UK, previously stated that a Conservative government would "Tackle unacceptable cultural practices by", amongst other measures, "classifying Khat".[53] In 2009, the Home Office commissioned two new studies in the effects of khat use and in June 2010, a Home Office spokesperson stated: "The Government is committed to addressing any form of substance misuse and will keep the issue of khat use under close scrutiny".[54]

Because it is legal in the UK, and because of khat's short shelf life, Britain serves as a main gateway for khat being sent by air to North America.[55]

During a debate on the legality on the 11 January 2012, UK Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes Mark Lancaster, Conservative, stated importation of Khat into the UK stands at 10 tonnes every week.[56]
