Khat chat v: the feelings mutual

But I suppose you got an answer!

It's been a while since I last chewed it. The comparison with cocaine is understandable - very mild cocaine.

It's a stimulant, makes you talkative and euphoric. Being a plant, results can be a bit hit or miss. My best experience with it turned a quiet evening in with a pal into a chatty, humourous game of kickabout with a round ball in a car park. That might not sound all that great, but I never play with balls other than my own.

Khat is actually illegal in most countries. I think the only reason it's still legal to buy in the UK is because the yemeni community played the religious human rights card as it has lose ties with their religion or some such bollocks.

I moved it to EADD because it is more popular in Africa, per the OP. I also figured that the OP would get more responses in this forum, and he did...

Comprehensive description also to be found in this here ADD thread, which states:

In the UK, Cathine and Cathinone are Class C drugs. The plant Catha edulis is uncontrolled. In Germany, Cathine is a controlled substance, and ownership and sale of the plant is illegal. Similar levels of control exist throughout most other European countries.

So it's not illegal to possess the plant but obviously nobody's going to give you explicit sources for it here.

Shit I've just spat out a mouthful of leaves as I've no idea how this would interact with my SSRIs.

Probably not much as it's fairly mild but I feel like a douche bag for not even thinking about it. :|

OK looks like cathine and cathinone are primarily dopamine / epinephrine / norepinephrine releasers, not (very) serotonergic.

I've seen loads about this in the past few months on the news, etc. But always wondered is it a good drug? Worth trying? What's the duration etc? Do the leaves taste like shite?

The leaves taste like most leaves except there's something almost sweet, citrusy, about the juice! They threaten to be fruity but just don't quite make it.

1,000,000 Yemenis can't be wrong. I think it's worth trying. It's mild so it's hard to say anything about duration etc but it does have an effect. The leaves should be fresh and from mature plants; the more red the leaf, the more potent, so it is said.

They are supposedly a good source of vitamin C!

Does coffee release dopamine, epinephrine and nor-epinephrine? EDIT: (It appears it does in fact work on these systems.)

Khat is definitely better than coffee IMO. It's a gradual come-up though as your having to extract the chemicals in your mouth and your taking them orally.
