How long can I wait between oxycontin (20mg) doses

I have been taking them 12 hours apart since I started them, but the scrip doesn't specify how long I should wait in between doses. Just wondering because some days I take it too late and it screws me for the next morning.

its really to reset the designated time to take them - I wasn't thinking anything absurd; but would like 10 or 11 hours in between late doses be ok?

With OxyContin, if you are prescribed it to take twice daily, taking it 12 hours apart is the best dosing plan for the most consistent pain relief. 10 or 11 hours in between a dose would be fine, however.

Yes; 8-12 hours between doses is typical dosing protocol for ER oxycodone.

Was it prescribed as needed for pain? And how many a month are you prescribed? I am assuming you are taking the OP formulation. Oxycontin usually only lasts for around 8hrs. The old formula used to last 12hrs. The reason why I am asking how many you get per month is if you only get 60 pills and start taking them every 8hrs as opposed to every 12, you're gna run out by day 20 and go through WDs.

i was given 60 - and there have been 2 days so far out of the week ive had them, that i only took 1 -- being that i started the prescription at night, and i woke up really late another day -- and its written only as take twice a day

but i wouldnt try taking them every 8, dont want to run out before my next appointment - so ill stick with every 12, moving up when needed.. theres just some days where i wake up real late (like 10 or 11am) and it kills days that i wake up early.. now i know i can take them before 12 hours is up

When a doc writes twice a day it means every 12hrs. I would recommend that if there comes a point where you are in pain and you need to take them three times make sure that you tell your doctor BEFORE. Cause you don't want to run out between appts and suffer withdrawals.
