What do you think the world will be like in 100 years?

I really don't think it's all that long. Sure, 100 years ago the world was hugely different (ww1 and whatnot). But again, I'm forced to bring up the fact that even if we're only talking about since modern humans have existed(which the OP never specifically said btw), 100 years is still only a small percentage. Modern humans have existed for what, 150,000-200,000 years?

It may be small considering how long we've been around, but technology has been progressing at an exponential rate. We've come a long way technologically in the past 100 years, hell even in the last 30 years. We are now connected in a way that never could have been expected. I'm not sure what the next 100 years will bring us, as I'm sure people 100 years ago could have predicted what will happen, but here are my guesses.

First off, because there is the possibility of an asteroid hitting earth in April 2036, (Friday the 13th 8o) we will at least develop the technology to be able to divert the trajectory of asteroids and possibly have to use that technology.
Many more of our liberties will be done away with in order to "protect" us.
Life expectancy will well over 100 (at least for the rich), from the ability to grow organs.
There will have been a woman president
Fundamentalist Christians will have predicted the world ending at least 15 more times 8)

The only prediction on here that is 100% guaranteed to fucking happen lol

Did you just arbitrarily choose a length of time? Because 100 years is not much time when you consider how long the earth has existed(~4+ billion years) :\

100 years is obviously a lot of time within the context of human culture and development. The difference between 1900 and 2000 technologically, socially and economically is vast. Given the spiraling rates at which humans seem to develop (whether that be for worse or for better), I would say 100 years from now things might be in quite a different state than they are currently.

I think it'll be something I won't want to be around to see, that's for sure. I can hardly stand to watch it in action now.

Wow, that's pessimistic. I was going to predict a really amazing and badass future. %)

No, seriously. Technology, culture, and genetics will all vastly improve. Just extrapolate the current trend -- we went from apes, whose greatest technological achievement was to sharpen a stick on a rock, to human beings whose greatest achievements include, ahhhem, the Internet, the Large Hadron Collider, quantum physics, et al.

10 billion years from now, our descendants will look at us like we look at a bacterium.

I never said a lot can't happen in 100 years. I simply said 100 years is an awfully short period of time relative to the age of the earth.

^that's true.

i think that by sticking to short timeframe, the intention was to look at social change, rather than environment. i'd wager to say the former is far less predictable than the latter. i don't think any of us can have any clue what society would be like.

I think humanity will start converging towards a realization of the uselessness of its condition and feats...and then I see two outcomes: either they all commit suicide or they become incredibly extraverted and all try to give back to the Earth and stuff.
No but I'm exaggerating a bit. I do think that might happen eventually though.

Otherwise, I agree with what you said =D

What about the theory that our ancestors were much more intelligent and had better technology....used it to build the pyramids etc etc....?

What if us in 1oo years is actually us time traveling thousands of years ago to build things and we are now us back then from the future?

I fore see 3 likely options:

1: Earth is fucked up, nuclear war all but destroyed most of the planet and almost all life is gone including humans... a few people are still living in bunker societies but they definitely arent out snowboarding.

2: Earth continues in the way it is now.. we become more and more enslaved to the elites, consumerism is rampant, and we have made short term(decades) fixes for things like global warming and other events that would fuck us up. We are basically as we are now, but everyones wearing even stupider looking clothing and driving even more ridiculous vehicles. Religion mostly dies and is looked down upon by society, like paganism is currently.

3: We work together, the elites are killed, the world becomes one massive free society ruled by 'vigilantes' or 'knights' of sorts. The good guy wins and technology and life itself advances so much that we reach the 'golden age' and bigger goals like mars colonization and other unnecessary but still important developments are attempted.

Im hoping for #3 ^_^

Technology has the potential to develop but it requires alot of money and resources and those who posses.them will only warrent developments that ensure they stay in power. For example psychedelic drugs were researched for decades with millions of tax dollars to use for interrogation tortire and brainwashing (which provide power and control) but scientists were banmed from developing them as medicines because they are "too dangerous" although thats finally starting to change!

I recently took an environmental science class akd from what I learned it seems like hanity is pretty fucked. Were on an exponential population growth with dwindling resources and nations still fight over petty political turf and money lile they always haveThe implications of global industrialization with no concern for the environment over the last 200 years are far reaching and were only seeing the tip of the ice berg. The systems of nature are deeply intertwined and interrelated and when we.fuck up one aspect it creates a cascading effect that throws.many out of whack, and we've alyered quite a few things. The ice caps are melting rapidly, there are oil.spills and smog clods that can be seen from space and laundry list of harmful synthetic chemicals that can be found in animals very far from civilization and in our own bodies causing many disorders and cancers and birth defects.

Going green and shopping at whole.foods.isnt gona save us now haha! BUT as depressing as this all sounds. (and im not one of those.2012.people who.knows.when itll hit the fan) im.still.exited because this is possibly the.most interesting time to be alive in human history. just dont have.kids! and i assume there will be a.world.war 3 some time in the next century as resources dwindle which wil be laiden with biological warfare amd the.like, and probobly the.rich will survive! wooooo! so get out there and trip and see.some beautiful nature amd savor those.coral reefs because theyre gona be gone real soon!

btw this is written on my phone pardon the.poor spelling. oh yea the other possibility is that scientology will gain world.domination amd create a wonderful eternal.utopia for humanity to thrive in! ;-)

all that will be on every tv channel will be naked people singing and fucking and being judged by fat washed up celebrities who tell every single one that despite their failure to achieve audience arousal, they are all special and are what that show is all about.

oh and the simpsons will still be on, and csi will then have 20 identically crappy shows. ... except csi: muppet babies, which will rule for all the muppet gratuitously violent sex in every episode (to beat the censors).

3D printing, combined with nano technology will result in a mass reduction in poverty. Being to break down and rebuild matter at an atomic level means you will be able to recreate/produce any food/shelter without any harmfull waste products. In conjunction with this would be the ability to create energy by nuclear fusion, safely powering our lives. Of course such machines would have to be censored otherwise the same evil people who exist today will want to use them to create poisons, weapons that a lack of resources at present protect us from. Protests will be for greater access to this technology rather than actual social problems.

Humans will become creatures of leisure, as they don't have to work for money. As a result some will become more obese and rich man's diseases such a diabetes and heart disease will still be the major killers. How ever as medical technology continues to improve we will live longer, with artificial hearts, knees etc extending our life span. Families will be smaller as poorer countries no longer feel the need to produce farm hands or replace lost children due to a falling infant mortality rate.

An increase in leisure will have benefits has it drives creativity and enlightenment. Free time drives invention and the pleasures of the arts and entertainment become more necessary to keep the masses happy.
