Hello all, I just returned from Colorado and have spent the last week completely sober (terrible, I know). Anyways, I wanted to celebrate my return to normalcy by of course, taking some opiates. My gf also bought a bottle of wine for us to drink tonight...

My question is, how long after taking my regular dose of opiates is it relatively safe to consume a moderate amount of alcohol? Let's say, for instance, that I ingest 30 mg's of hydrocodone at 4 pm. Would it be okay to consume alcohol at 10 pm the same day, 6 hours later? What about 7,8 or 9 hours later?

Please hang your stigmas by the door and please have proof of empiricism ready before entering. Thanks in advance!

6 hours is more than long enough. I know some people drink while on opiates. But i've never saw the enjoyment in it.

Which opiates are you talking about? Just hydrocodone? Hydrocodone has a half life of 3.8 hours.

If you're taking other opiates, they may have very long half lives that could endanger you even hours after the high has worn off.

I honestly don't really like drinking while I'm high.. it kind of interrupts my buzz. Though, I'll still drink on opiates anyway sometimes if at a bar or something with friends.. but I'll only have maybe a beer or two. It's not really that big of a deal as long as you don't drink too much, however, you probably won't like it.

Hydrocodone. I usually only feel the effects for approximately 3 hours.

The half life for hydrocodone is about 4 hours; I'm not sure if having less than half the drug in my system will be problematic when combined with alcohol.

I won't be high 6 hours after my initial dose, so the alcohol won't be ruining any buzz. I agree that alcohol is a buzz killer, though.

Hydrocodone. I usually only feel the effects for approximately 2 and a half hours.

Half life is 3.8 hours so that sounds about right.

So after about 4 hours, half the dose is still in your system even if the high has worn off.

Yes but what does this mean in regards to alcohol consumption?

I know what a half life is, what I don't know is if "having less than half the drug in my system will be problematic when combined with alcohol."

It'll just increase the amount of sedation you'll feel. Whether or not it's dangerous is down to how much alcohol you consume and/or how much hydrocodone you previously took.

It sounds like you should be fine, but even so I advise keeping an eye on how much alcohol you're drinking and watch that you don't get the "fuck it" attitude and take more hydro.

When I was more tolerante I could mix my opiates with all sorts of stuff. However sometimes I would get floored by less than my usual doses of the combinations (xanax + oxy + alcohol as an example).

Point begin caution should always be taken even in highly tolerant/experinced users. It just takes one fuck up to OD and not wake up. That warning is mostly for anyone that might happen upon this thread as the OP sounds like he's taking all the proper precautions.

Thank you, Albion.

Alright sounds good. I don't plan on drinking more than a bottle of wine throughout the course of the night and I won't have any other Hydros available so that's a plus. I appreciate the insight.

Please remember there is a danger combining alcohol and Vicodin due to the high amount of Tylenol ingested when taking vicodin. Liver damage can be done, I suggest if you must use this combo do a cold water extraction on your Vicodin first.

It's not the "right'' thing to do, and I've had considerable tolerance to Oxy, but I've drank ON IT plenty of times with no ill effects other than potentiation of the sedation. IMO, wait a minimum of four hours, or until you no longer feel the main "high" of Oxycodone. Then drink, but go slowly at first. You should be fine.

Why separate them? When I had both my strategy was to moderate both. A nice low level beer buzz with some (moderately dosed) pharm opiates on top is effing sweet IMHO. Also, you can get more buzzes for what you got. Just don't get feeling too good and go hog-wild on the drinks, cuz then you're in for some serious shit, and not good.

My advice, seek the nice, moderate buzz that makes everything cooler and more fun, and not the oblivion buzz that destroyed my life and nearly killed me
.

I'd personally never combine the two, in fear of death and all. But one of my friends combines oxys, xanax and alot of liquor all the time. I'm surprised he's alive still also!
