how much are you paying a month?

since it's new, they've got an opening offer of £10.99 a month for the year, plus a £20 joining fee. all of which = total bargain really. .

@ £10.99 a month tho, it's just probably best to pay by DD to avoid any admin fees for missed payments then, so I'll let him know, cheers

the gym where his membership just expired was only open 10am-8.30pm mon-fri, and 10-1pm sat/sun, so having the flexibility of 24/7 will be worth it tenfold. he probably wouldn't mind going after 10pm too, so as long as it's not full of numpties then, it seems like it's worth joining up and taking the chance on the free weights. to take advantage of the £10.99 offer, you need to join in the month before the Gym actually opens I think

17.99 for me. Still cheaper than any other place, and I like it there :)

Nice one, MSB. That explained it clearly. Is there any particular cheap brand of whey/aminos that you'd recommend? Popped into Holland and Barrett and was shocked by the prices (as per). I went to the gym today, and started with a 5 minute run (9KM/h), and was surprised that I did it without even getting out of breath. I need some discipline, as I targeted a lot of the muscle groups, and I know it's going to leave me in agony. I got a bit of pain in my left knee, and it cracked (just like a finger would - no pain), whilst I was on the leg press. I was a bit concerned it was going to pop out, but I'm not sure what the chances of that are.

Went on my own today, and actually quite enjoyed it - although the 'state of the art' gym I went to doesn't seem to have a fucking steam room! It's also pretty small, with a small free weights section, that was pretty full. There's a much bigger one that I go to, so I think I'll ditch the small one, unless I'm on foot. Will walking a mile or so home have any detriment on my recovery? I'm guessing not.

Marmalade has pretty much covered the cheapest option quite well I think. Even if it makes me seem like a dick in people's eyes, 'myprotein' shakes don't mix well or taste the best. I only say this as an issue because even with the higher quality proteins I still feel like throwing up, so with the grainer ones it sort of feels like being sick backwards for me. Saying this doesn't come from any false sense of expectation, I know you get what you pay for. All of the prices of whey have shot up, because like Marmz says China has increased demand. But also the government have just added vat to sports drinks, so all prices have gone up 20% across the board! What sort of amount are you looking/willing to spend? I just got some Optimum Nutrition 100% whey, and i've got to say i'm very impressed. It tastes the best, mixes the best, and also contains 6gs of BCAAs in every serving. Monster Supplements is the cheapest, unless you buy Casein as well - then you can get 40% off on the official ON UK site.

The knee clicking shouldn't be any problem at all. It's just air being released from the joint most of the time. Perhaps try eating fish more, or supplementing with some cod liver oil, which should lube up your joints nicely. If you have no history of your knees dislocating and your form is correct then it shouldn't happen, but once they pop they will keep on popping. The walk home must only take like 10-15 minutes, so I doubt it will make any difference to your exercising in either direction. Are you going to the gym consistently? I presume you know about splitting down your work outs?

Marmz, I know sweet FA about gyms these days.

Even if it makes me seem like a dick in people's eyes

haha, about half an hour ago, he saw that i'd put his email here and told me to take the dick/bell end comment down cause he didn't mean it as it came out and didn't expect me to put that bit up ... but I couldn't be bothered =D

he did explain to me for about 10 minutes but I zoned out after 30 seconds ;p ... that what he was actually referring to was the people who complain about various powders being bad to mix, when theyre comparing them against something incomparable ... people complain on the BB forums all the time when they've suddenly switched from whey to pea or something and whine that it's inferior cause it doesn't mix like whey or whatever. and of course it doesn't, but it's not due to quality of the product

hah, and while I was writing the above, he just came in the kitchen and asked me to state that he doesn't think you're a bell end MSB, lol <3 ... he's really nice btw ... nothing at all like me =D

Ok lol. I tend to avoid BB forums. Anything I want to know or learn seems to be out there already. I might join one to run a steroid cycle past people if I ever go on one though :D

[edit] Will you thank him for his Quark recipe please. It's awesome =D

hah, will do ... BB Puddin™ ... there's a marketing opportunity & recipe there for the taking

Thanks for all the information. I'll have a proper search tomorrow. I'm just looking to spend the bare minimum, as I'm constantly skint. As for cheap gyms, I have a Link4Life card, which allows me into any local borough run gym. It's about £15 a month, for people on the dole, which is excellent. I'm definitely more into it than I ever was, because I can already feel benefits. My arms already look bigger. I'm obviously not getting any younger, and I realise dramatic steps are needed.

MSB, my walk home is about 10-15 minutes, yes. I didn't think it would matter. My heart rate barely goes up, whilst power walking.

Back to the gym now heavystyle last 2 days. Legs today managed to squat 50 without the bar, leg press 90 near enough and did all the rest leg curls etc. Did a wee bit of back too and had a cheeky sunbed.

The problem I've now realised is I pushed it too far, can't walk 5 steps without clapsing, legs aren't injured but I really did push it. Back, shoulders and triceps tomorrow. Can't wait, already back to looking slick, eating well too.

Now all I need is the perfect woman and I will be sober as a judge ;)

Nah mate think it was more a case of overdoing the reps on everything. I never bother with incline leg presses much really. Only been back at it 2 days so that's probably why. I was squatting 70's and leg pressing 110 no problem before. Amazing how easily you can loose strength with 5 weeks off the gym.

I must say I still am one handsome mother fucker though ;)

Get that pic up you've just posted on facebook, show us all how much "the fitness is coming back"

You should show us a picture. Your comments on Facebook make you sound like one handsome fucker. ;)

I was utterly shocked to find I can still do ten reps of 175KG, then 185KG, then 195KG, on the leg press - without too much issue. My legs are stupidly strong - it just proves the rest of me can be the same. Did a mad workout with a mate, just with free weights, on Monday. My traps are fucking killing, now - but everything else I got away with. I'm buying some whey, this week, and I'm ready to bodybuild my fucking flabby tits off. I've never been this excited about exercise. On days I don't train, I'll try and get a good walk in, or something strenuous. Except weekends - purely for rest, fun, and spending time with my lad.

I spent years, sat on my arse, getting high, and not really exercising. I urge others to get some exercise in, even if it's just cardio. I honestly think my level of cardio fitness is partly due to all the dancing I've done. So, go for a dance, when possible!

nice one :) what whey you going to buy? yeah good point on the dancing, must be good,

changed my eating habits around recently and noticed weight loss, been quite eating heavily in the mornings, then easing off around mid day and then not eating past 3pm-ish. lots of protein, carbs, salad, veg, spread out. got into the bad habit of pointless eating before bed, cereals and other shit, but been managing to keep the hunger off until the next day from 3pm. although have been waking up in the night feeling hungry

I love the leg press to death, am currently doing 3x10 133kg, my legs are also stupidly strong but it's from a combination of being a big fan of horseriding when i was a little girl (do 95kg on the thigh adductor every time, can't get any more weights on it ;) and having to drag my 16 stone carcass around all day every day for the whole of my adult life. My lower body is definitely stronger than my upper body, and i'm cool with that for now - weebles wobble but they don't fall down ;)

Get a big weight plate and put it over the pin on the weights part, then you can up it by about 25 kg ;)

I'm just going to get some of the stuff recommended in this thread. I got let down by my mate, for the gym, today. I've felt well guilty about not going. I need to train ASAP.
