DXM - too risky?

Tried DXM for the first time last weekend, I took around 150mg and reached what I believe was the first plateau. I had intentions of taking around 300mg tomorrow night, which should take me into the second plateau (I weigh 130lbs), but I'm slightly wary of the implications of such a trip. I've a very important art exam on Tuesday during which I will be drawing people and still life objects and I really want to be right for that.

So I've two questions for DXM users; if I take 300mg tomorrow night, is it possible that I will still feel the drug's effects on Tuesday? And will I be able to study the day after I take it? Is it too risky? Above all, I want to do my best in my exam but it'll be hard for me to abstain given my evidently poor impulse control. :p

You'll be fine.
Consider first that taking DXM two weekends in a row is not particularly good for you physically or mentally. Also, in my humble opinion there are better substances that are easily available and significantly more enjoyable.

If you're going to be concerned about this, I would just wait. Worrying about your exam is not what you want to be doing during your trip.

I'd say just wait. 99.99% chance you'll be absolutely fine. But if it's that important, why are you risking it? And like folding space says, a burden-free trip versus one where you're worried about how long the after-effects will last is twenty times better.

You should be fine, the afterglow shouldn't last more than a day at that dosage, although as above posters have mentioned taking it two weekends in a row isn't a great idea (tolerance build up) and things like upcoming exams can be a real burden when high.

I can't think of any drug that is as accessible as DXM. I live in a shitty little town with a shitty drugs trade and I have virtually no connects here. Anyway, I took the DXM and I didn't have a bad trip at all thank God.

But I'm a little worried now. I took around 300mg (a fairly modest dose?) on Friday at around 10pm. Later on in the night and the following day one side of my body kept twitching every now and then, my arms, legs and sometimes my eyelid. I wasn't worried at first as I knew the afterglow lasted about a day. I was also very giggly.

However, on Saturday night, when I was still twitching, I smoked a little bit of weed, took one xanax (upjohn 55) and then smoked a tiny line of heroin. Forgive my ignorance, but I thought that the heroin and valium would counteract the twitching. When I woke up this morning I was still twitching. Have I caused some permanent brain damage? I can control the twitching but I have to consciously resist it and it's getting to be a bit annoying now.

i used to have this side effect before but haven't had it in quite some time
my guess is that you'll be fine :) taking a break from the other stuff would definatly help

That's reassuring. After googling my symptoms I came to the conclusion that I had caused some irreparable brain damage but now I can breathe a sigh of relief. How long did it take for the twitching to go away? I have no intentions of going near any recreational drug for the next few months and I mightn't ever do DXM again.

You definitely don't have brain damage! I accidentally took 3500mg of DXM once and I'm still alive and experienced no noticeable cognitive deficit afterwards. Not to say that DXM is at all good for you! But, you're more likely to get yourself into trouble with heroin and xanex than DXM! The reason I ODed on DXM was actually because I was on xanex when I weighed out the pure DXM powder and missed a decimal point!

Part of me wants to sig the bit I bolded. I think pretty much googling any symptoms can lead most people to believe they have brain damage, cancer, and/or some other horrible condition that will cause immediate death if not treated. That's why self-diagnosis doesn't really work.

Anyway, I'm not sure what the cause of this is and I don't want to blindly speculate, but I suspect it will fade quickly. It's a different chemical entirely but after my first experience with 6-APB I had an annoying eye twitch, and I was scared that somehow the eye-rolling the drug had given me had caused a permanent twitch. In my case if I remember right it took about 2 weeks for the twitch to completely vanish, with it lessening in severity each day up until then. Subsequent uses never caused it again.

More than a week has passed since I took that 300mg dose and the twitch hasn't gone away. Getting really worried now. I thought it was almost entirely gone but I was watching a film the night before last and I started twitching like crazy when lights on the tv started flashing, my friends thought I was having some kind of seizure! Has anyone had this sort of experience with DXM?

In my case like I said it took about 2 weeks. It was caused by something different but I suspect it's likely a psychological tic you've developed that just needs to pass. Try not to think about it, ignore it as best you can, and try not to be anxious about it. See how it is in a week's time :)

Brain damage? I was under the impression they somewhat stumped that whole Olney's lesion thing with DXM http://www.erowid.org/references/refs_view.php?ID=7030 Although they're rats.

Anyway, I did some research and found that a lot of people reported RLS(restless leg syndrome) or some form of it after DXM, which oddly enough helps some people with RLS when withdrawing from opiates. It helped me.

I've done DXM quite a few times, but don't believe I had those symptoms. I mean I've had some odd body sensations/twitches from some hallucinogens, but they passed with time.

question.. Did you take a solution with just the active ingredient dextromethorphan (DXM) in it?

I never tried DXM because the fear of shitty bodyload by people reports such as itching, tachycardia, stomach illness, vomiting, heavy dizziness, etc. (Erowid listed side effects like this too). Is posible that this bad bodyload cames from the other chemicals on dxm syrup/pills? and regarding the dosage... low doses can be doses are rewarding and more side effects free?

You're fine, like one poster mentioned, the after glow shouldn't last more than one day. What I actually found when I had started using it, my brain power seemed to be focused during the after glow, so it just might help you during your exams. I just started a new thread about my dxm experience. Don't be worried about a couple weekends in a row, I've gone second plateau/300+ mg or more at least 150 maybe 200 times, sometimes days in a row for two weeks. If this does become a habit, you can be absolutely sure that your tolerance will quickly increase and you will have a loss of positive effects. And if you are messing around with opiates, try a little a couple hours after you dose your dxm--it potentiates opiates really well, but just be careful.
