My doctor currently prescribed me these. I was taking roughly 10-15 Lorcets a day. How should I take this - I know it has to be dissolved under the tongue. I don't want to take the whole pill. BTW, I've currently weened myself down to maybe 3 Lorcets a day. Could a take the pill in maybe like a little bitty piece and still feel something from it? Or should I take half of it? I'm new here, so I hope I don't get slammed for posting here. I searched around the forum, but didn't find anything that pertained to me and my situation. THANKS!

8 mg is FAR too much from the way it sounds. Besides the fact that less is generally better when it comes to buprenorphine, 8 mg is just FAR too much. I do not know why your doctor would start you on such a high dose, especially if you have weened down to 3 Lorcets daily. In fact, I am not sure that taking any Subutex is in your best interest, unless you plan to maintain on it so that you do not relapse into opiate addiction or plan to use it for pain management. In any event, I would say start at as little as 0.5 mg, 1/16th of the 8 mg pill. You can cut the pill into quarters, and then crush a quarter and roughly measure out a quarter of that by dividing the powder into four equal lines. You can then carefully take the powder, equal to 0.5 mg, and put it under your tongue. If you feel this is not enough, try 1 mg (half of one of the quarters). I highly doubt you will need more than 1 mg per dose, and think 0.5 mg should be sufficient. I would dose as needed, maybe two or three times a day, as you feel comfortable. With Subutex (buprenorphine) less is generally more for opioid effect and anti-depressant effect. This is a generally accepted statement, although doctors will almost always prescribe much more than you need or will want to take.

8mg bupe is way stronger than 30mg hydrocodone, let alone 30mg hydro spread out over a day. It's probably like 70mg of hydrocodone at least. I'd take 4mg tops, maybe even 2mg just to be safe. 4mg might not kill you, hell maybe not even 8, but subutex last a long time. It'd suck to be sick for a day from too much bupe. Take 2mg, then if you don't feel better in 2 hours take 2mg more.

Honestly it might be better to just quit, you might just trade a relatively mild hydrocodone addiction for a somewhat larger buprenorphine addiction. But I don't know you, maybe you just need something. Shit I like buprenorphine better than vicodin. Really it's up to you and your doctor.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Ya I though that would be too much and was going to do exactly as you suggested. Am I going to feel any euphoria, back pain relief, pass out, get sick? I've taken Suboxone before that I got from a friend to see if this was the route I wanted to go. I took the small piece as suggested and it gave me relief and felt some euphoria. I took two of those small pieces and it knocked me completely out!

Because your hydrocodone addiction has been really lessened in the amount of opiates consumed, the Subutex will likely not bring about any severe precipitated wd's, esp. if you are already sick. If you are already sick it should bring relief to the wd's, and while it may take a little getting used to, should provide full relief after the normal duration of opiate wd's (a few days). So yes, that includes pain relief, and it will likely to induce euphoria, maybe only after some time, though. Buprenorphine is a very strong opioid, and I will again suggest that you take a very low dose, even lower than 2 mg to start. Like I said, 0.5 mg would be a good starting dose IMO. Because your tolerance is not that high, a low dose like that will likely get you well, and probably feeling rather good. Higher doses are not as pleasant as it acts as more of a partial agonist in high doses, and could be just plain too much. Lower doses allow for the feel of a more full-agonist, like other opioids.

I would say spit it out; some users of Suboxone say that it gives them headaches. The buprenorphine has already been absorbed and the oral bioavailability is extremely low. After 10min., give up and spit it out.

I'm not really the expert here as I usually snort it.

Also, some of you folks may have been on some hardcore opiates, but to take 3-4 a day for a year, and just stop - IT STILL REALLY HURTS. I hate and love opiates! Damn pharmaceutical companies! lol

Well, yeah, it sucks man. Trust me, there are people (including myself) who have been through a lot worse. The pharmaceutical company didn't put you in this position.

LOL @ snorting it. Only reason I don't spit it out is because I see some white stuff still floating around. Small, but it's there. Thanks LSU!

They didn't, the car accident did. But, I was mainly pointing out the fact that they are so addictive and you have to rely on them.

Tigers, what's the worst you've been through? Have you ever had to come off Benzos. I was taking nearly 20 mg of Xanax a day - for 8 years. Well not ALL 8 years, but about 3-4 years I had built up to that much. I think benzo addiction- especially Xanax - is WAY worse then coming off opiates IMO.

Whats your plan for the subutex? Are you using it to just taper off, or for maintenance? I think you should try to just taper off, at least giving it a try a few times. 0.5mg for a few days, then 0.25 for a few more, then start skipping day, then every 3 days, etc...

Ya, I would love to be off opiates completely Tommy. But what about my back pain? I got three herniated discs in my back. Suggestions?

Yea. I actually have a friend with the same condition. I drive him once a month to get a shot in his back, and other than that day and the following day, it feels a lot better. The other thing that helped was losing weight, but he could afford to lose the weight (wasn't fat, but a little above average). Other than that there is exercise that doesn't involve the impact of running. Rollerblading would be one example of this, as well as swimming, and some of the machines at a gym. He tapered off of the oxycodone with no problems really, other than the pain from the injection but that is only 1-2 days a month.

Ya, I do workout. I'm pretty into it. Go 5 times a day. I've noticed that has helped. But I've heard those shots are expensive as hell! Is that true?

He has insurance, so only pays a co-pay. I'm usually in the waiting room for an hour or so, so I hear some numbers being thrown around but they are usually co-pays for past due payments, or people with higher ones due to varying insurance policies. I'm not sure about how expensive it would be without insurance, but its a $50 co-pay with the policy my friend has, maybe a little less since the $50 was for a longer procedure.

Take it from the guy with 3 spinal fusions under his belt, go for YOGA and physical therapy....and on top of that stick to cardio only on an eliptical because running on the ground will just aggravate your back. Yoga is the key though because it will allow you to gain functional muscle strength in the areas around your herniated discs (mainly core strength but others too).

You are going to want to go to a store like "Relax the Back" and stock up on foam rollers, special pillows and a swiss ball. You are going to have to 'baby' your back for a while and not do anything that can aggravate it (no picking up heavy things!).

PM me if you have any questions...
