Heroin How hard is to shoot yourself up the first time?

Honestly, some people pick up IV'ing incredibly fast..while others are really clumsy with a rig and struggle when learning to hit them selves. In my case, I was able to do it the first time. Granted I had expiereced friends there guiding me through it that first couple of times. But, all and all I took to the needle like a pro, hah. It was just meant to be, unforturantly. :\ In my experience, even people who had a really hard time in the beginning figured it out pretty quick. It's not all that difficult, especially in the beginning when your veins are in good shape. It gets harder as you do more damage to your body and need to start hitting in more creative places. Check out the IV megathread, search around BL for other posts regarding injection. Everything you need to know is on here. Having a knowledgeable user there with you your first time to show you what you're doing wrong and help out will make a big difference. Be careful.
 
Alot of people were concerned with you hitting an artery, me on the other hand, I'm more concerned about your swift adjustment from just trying weed a couple weeks ago to full blown shooting up dope. Be careful. Most people start out by snorting it, hell, most people start out by solely doing percs or vicodins. I know the lure, however, as I myself almost had heroin ruin a good part of my life. You're right in that it's something you'll never forget but it takes its toll on your mind, body, and spirit. You'll find out soon enough. I'll say this though, because this site is for harm reduction purposes, please please please look into suboxone. And if you are doing dope for pain relief, go see a dr. or a free clinic and get prescribed something like Tramadol or even percocet. You might be surprised at how effective they are.

First, I would like to straight forward say, that really depends on you. I had a hard time doing it at first because I have small veins that like to roll away and actually hitting one was challenging. I spent an hour the first time just trying to find the vein. I often missed altogether as it would look like i had it and then as i was shooting realized i didn't, then you get a nasty bubble there and lose the intensity. The sight of blood didn't bother me but I have seen people that was an issue for.

Now, this second part I will keep short cuz none of us are here to be preached to. But I do hope you stop now. That is a wonderful feeling, I know, but you will never get it again. You spend the rest of your life chasing that first time and it never feels the same. Plus it leads down a dark and lonely road. Those dangers they speak of from IV'ing are very real. I would say half of the people i used to shoot up with now have hepatitis. and at least half that number are dead or in jail. Just the way it honestly works out.

Good luck, but know, and I promise you from my own experience there are WAY better rushes. But if you must, be safe, don't share needles :)
 
I'm going to hop on the please dont shoot heroin boat. I started shooting 8 months ago, I've already tried to quit. Seems like I'm always trying to quit.

It's not that hard to figure out how to hit yourself if you want to. It took me a few times of watching to gain the confidence. Once you cross the line there is no going back. You'll figure it out if you must.

Please stop though. In such a short time I've fallen behind on all my bills owe alot of money and never saw it coming really.

ahhh this post parallels my experience. I IV'ed once when I was at my dealer's place (granted I've been doing opiates for years), and the next day I had bought myself needles and syringes. I also didn't want to use everyday...but I did for two weeks straight, decided I absolutely needed to stop before any thing gets worse, and I did.

In the end it's only gonna do you better to stop now. I don't mean to lecture, but I'll tell you from personal experience that using drugs to mask any hardships/personal problems is not gonna work. Heroin is too good of a feeling/too powerful of a drug to be used by someone who would get high off hydrocodone or oxycodone--two much, much safer drugs. Considering your lack of drug history, I assume your tolerance is low.

As a heads up, you're gonna develop a habit of always turning to drugs for relief from stress/hardships. I am completely reliant on exogenous substances for 'relief'...it's really uncomfortable 'cause when I'm sober, I'm always super anxious. I always feel the need to have a benzo, amphetamine, opiate, weed...something in me to just calm me down (by getting me high). It's an absolute garbage way to handle the shit that gets thrown at you in life. I wish I would have known this 7 years ago.

I've read a nice analogy on BL: using drugs recreationally to take care of mental or emotional hardships is like using a band-aid without stopping the bleeding first. If you try and "patch up" your emotional "wound" before facing it head on and trying to resolve it ("stopping the bleeding"), then the band-aid will fuse with the scab, so all seems fine until you stop using the drug and the band-aid comes off, ripping the scab off with it, and causing it to bleed out even more than it did in the first place.

Seriously I find it unbelievable he didn't have you at least snort it first. He's trying to take advantage of you somehow, that's highly suspicious behavior. Be it financially, sexually, you can help him get drugs some how, whatever, I would avoid this person.

Word, "the first samples are free, but if you wanna get high, you gotta buy."

Even if he is not trying to take advantage of her money or her body, and is just looking for someone to shoot dope with so he doesn't feel like such a junkie, that's still fucked up. Potentially screwing up someone's life because you don't want to feel like a loser getting high by yourself? lame

He's not trying to take advantage of me. We were already having sex and I don't have alot of money. He offered it to me once. I'm the one who went back to him and asked for more. If I hadn't asked for it he wouldn't give it to me. I can't answer why he didn't have me snort it. But that's irrelevant now. It's how I'm doing it and I don't mind doing it this way.

Actually, if you are already having sex and you don't have a lot of cash, he's more likely to be taking advantage of you than if you weren't having sex and have a lot of cash. He knows you'll fuck him, and he knows you don't have the cash to buy from anyone else. He probably wants to get you hooked on heroin so you can't leave him without first going through heroin withdrawal.

I know many of these posts sound callous, but you're in a very bad situation here, and you don't seem like you can accept that you're quickly going down the road to addiction. This isn't a judgemental thing. This is a warning.
 
The first step of recovery is admitting addiction. You are showing very obvious signs of mental addiction right now, you are currently in the fairy tale part of addiction so no one here can really help you.

I'll be looking forward to your first withdrawal, oh god what have I done thread.
 
Please take a breath and realize that everyone here is simply trying to help you Emily. There's no need to be so defensive.
Now, regarding your situation, it seems to me that this person is indeed trying to take advantage of you in some way. I can't entirely say what way that is, people have thier different motives after all, but the fact that more than one person here came to this(rather obvious) conclusion should say something to you.
You would do well to cut ties with this person and anyone else involved with this kind of scene.
 
ignoring all the replies, i'm going to answer topic's question

yes, it is hard, and to be honest - i was trying to i.v. maybe a dozen of times before i could actually get it "right". I was always all shaky and getting out of the vein, no matter what I was trying to shoot up (not heroin though, not thinking about it). And the first time i actually succedeed in 100% was the time i took .5mg clonazepam before shot so I could get calmer and steadier.
MODNOTE: It is highly dangerous to combine benzodiazepines and opioids, DO NOT MIX.

If it isn't working for you and you're getting shaky etc. it IS a sign you propably shouldn't be doing it. I'm telling you because even after those tries to i.v. i wasn't convinced that much to i.v., but the first time I did it right with help of clonazepam, I no longer fear i.v. and I feel like I could do it anytime anyday even without help of benzo. It changes your attitude.
