Okay I know this is probably the wrong forum, but here goes.
I was out Of town about 8 hours from where I live and I needed art supplies for my portfolio so I went to hobby lobby and stole some artist pens with a value of less than 25$ and purchased 10$ worth of stuff. Where I made the mistake was I paid with my card and then the manager stopped me and questioned me because he saw me wit more items before but I told him I put them back and he asked me to show him where I put it so I showed him where I got them and made up a story and he let me leave. I know with just surveillance I would be ok aslong as I didn't return, however I paid with my card so they have my name now. Right? Am I going to get caught? I'm not a thief this was a one time thing. I'm 18 years old and am on probation for possession of marijuana an am in a program to get it deferred. What is going to happen? Could they put out a warrant?

honestly it depends on how far the manager looks into it. he could check the cameras and see that you never put the items back. and then if they realize you paid with your card get your name from them.

I would say its possible that you could get charged, why would you risk a charge while still on probation? and for something so small.

if you get caught run, period, and dumb idea using your card. if they take you in the back they'll either call the cops or hit you with a 500-1000 dollar lawsuit. just run the hell away if you get caught.

I wasn't thinking rationally. I'm a good kid Who comes from a good family but im going to ruin my future and relationship with my parents if I mess up this pre trial diversion program which has costed thousands.

I got out of the store safe e didn't get any info off me but the card thing is what is stressing me out

Don't worry about it too much.

As stated before, it's gonna depend on how far the manager takes it. Did he seem convinced when you told him your story? What was his reaction when you left? Ask yourself these questions, but don't drive yourself insane doing so.

It was a little stupid to use your credit card, but hey...shit happens, right? Again, don't sweat it too much. If it's just a few missing things, nothing of immediate value, I'm sure the manager isn't gonna care enough to go through the process of tracking you down. I'm sure he/she has other shit to do with their time. Just don't return to the store for a while, don't want to remind them of what you did.

dude your credit card has all your info. CC companies have to disclose that to law enforcement if they request it. It all depends on how much that manager looks into it

Thanks for the input and yes it was very stupid I'll let you guys know if anything happens

you should be fine. if he was going to do anything (i.e. check the tapes), he would have done it while you were there. he's not gonna go all sherlock holmes on you now over $25.

*Manager checks tapes for something unrelated, remembers your face*
