He was 47.

Beastie Boys legend Adam Yauch -- otherwise known as MCA -- has passed away at the age of 47, after losing his battle with cancer. Yauch revealed that he had cancer in a salivary gland in his neck in July 2009.

Damn. I'm going to drink a Brass Monkey in his honor. I grew up on the Beastie Boys, and last year me and my friend from school would always pre-game to their music, while the younger people looked at us like "wtf are you listening to." It's sad that 19 and 20yr olds don't know Beastie. Or maybe it was sad that I was drinking with them. Meh, I guess a little bit of both.

Im 20 and I know of the Beastie boys, but I get what youre saying. Was never a huge fan of them actually but some songs were good. RIP

awwwwwwwwwww cant stand it, I know you planned it...

cancer is so fucking gay. i thought he was in remission. what really sucks is that they're last album was sick as fuck. they were far from washed up as far as studio shit goes.

RIP you bad ass motherfucker.

i can only hope that mike d and a rock do some baller ass album in rememberance.

I already had plans of heading into the city with the fam tomorrow, so if anybody sees anything online about anything going down in BK or Manhattan let me know. What better excuse for ditching my family after they pay for my train ticket than to go to some rememberance type thing in the city where the Beastie Boys are from.

you should see the pathetic email chain i have going right now with me and my 30 something's friends.

we're so fucking gay and old. no matter what kind of music you listen to these days, every person i know in my age group fucking loves the beastie boys.

So fucking sad they pioneered so much in hip hop dude is a true legend. I put on intergalactic this morning when I heard such great music. I hope the remaining members do a rememberance album and tour. My generation knows about the boys trust me on that!

Fucking fuck, RIP

I'm glad I finally got to see them live a few years ago though
Here be one of my all time favorite Beastie Boy songs, Sabrosa

I always noticed a lot of people never even realized they could actually play instruments and play them well they did

even when they were punk rockers? ;)

gotta love Beastie Boys for helping me explain how awesome it is to be on angel dust. A couple (okay, more like 10) years ago Rolling Stone put their top artists list, which is such a stupid idea, except for that it's written by other artists that are awesome and give a damn about. DMC (who is also dead) from Run DMC wrote about the Beastie Boys:

The first time we toured with the Beastie Boys was the Raising Hell tour in 1986: Run-DMC, Whodini, LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys. We were playing the Deep South — Crunkville, before there was crunk — and it was just black people at those shows. The first night was somewhere in Georgia, and we were thinking, "I hope people don't leave when they see them." But the crowd loved them, because they weren't trying to be black rappers. They rapped about shit they knew about: skateboarding, going to White Castle, angel dust and television. Real recognizes real.

Such a sad fucking day. And way too young....

I remember them head lining the Big Day Out here in Oz a few years ago,, walking amongst the crowd and stopping and playing instrumental for about an hour... fucking awesome. RIP MCA

If it makes you feel better a lot of oral cancers these days have be attributed to HPV contracted during oral sex. I bet it was a skanky Queens pussy that killed him.

When I was 19/20 there wasn't a drug deal that went down that didn't have the Beastie Boys as it's soundtrack. I only hope that Mike D and Ad Rock continue making music.

last night i was trying to figure out which song is my favourite. Cooky Puss is up there, but i think my favourite favourite is Rhymin' & Stealin'. Fucking love that song and it's little Joe Stummer shoutout/sample and all of it.
