Going to Mongolia before it is totally raped by mining companies is rather high on my to do list. You have the right to camp anywhere you like on the flats, so I think it could be a fun summer riding about and pitching up wherever I feel like it. Also, weed just grows wildly all over the steppe, so that's that sorted:D

I was having a bad trip lol I turned around and a camel spat at me.

This was in India..

In India? was it it Jaipur by any chance, I think I know the camel you speak of.

I once toyed with a development VSO job in tourism in Mongolia, I'd have quite liked it apart from the lingo issue :|

Bloody slugs :!

Evening EADD <3 Wednesday eh, its going to be a short working week but feels so very long....

The last thing a colleague said to me before we left was "it's not Thursday is it?".

I think everybody's been knocked out of sync by this Bank Holiday. Seems like ages since the long weekend doesn't it?

^^ Kate I almost went to Mongolia on my gap year, til I realised I would be stuck in the middle of nowhere, not understanding a word and having to eat a lot of meat. The name just sounds so amazing though! India is fantastic <3 must go back.. did you go down to the south at all?

Evening all :) raining here and I'm feeling pretty snug but also pretty lethargic..

edit: no but I'm putting that on now Marmz!

s'only on for half an hr, and finishes @ 8, but it's on again tomorrow 7.30-8, and sunday too.

the baby bears are lovely cheeky wee scamps

How crazy is Mongolian to learn? Harder or equal to say Chinese/Japanese? I sort of just assumed that when I was in the major cities I can just do the normal point and gesture routine.

I'm still struggling to learn Japanese, though I have moved on from the vowels.

Missed the programme, I'm not good at media multi-tasking - domestic chores and work yes, but TV, BL and redtube -= no :\

...too many fingers not enough thumbs...

I was sure I was coming down with a fever earlier, felt shit, coughing loads, blocked up, shivering, sweating even in a cold room but now feel fine. Maybe the paracetamol and beer helped!

Surely the beauty of our Empire legacy is that we shouldn't be expected to stand there wasting our time trying to speak in any of these other countries ridiculous and, quite frankly, offensive tongues?

When travelling, I always find a swift, hard crack in the jaw usually goes a long way to resolving foreign peoples insistance on not learning English.

Don't think Mongolian is related to Chinese. Apparently it may be in the same broad family as Japanese though.

Japanese and Chinese, although they sound a bit similar to us in the west, are actually completely fucking different, in the same way that English is completely fucking different to Japanese. (I originally said Russian but English and Russian are both Indo-European, sharing common ancestry way back in the mists of time).

EDIT but yeah, Japanese is apparently pretty fucking hard, so Mongolian probably is not a walk in the park.

The Japanese language is written with a combination of three scripts: Chinese characters called kanji (漢字?), and two syllabic (or moraic) scripts made of modified Chinese characters, hiragana (ひらがな or 平仮名?) and katakana (カタカナ or 片仮名?).

It really does my fucking head in especially when trying to pronounce hiragana with a Scottish accent. My tongue is not long enough :|

Yeah being Scottish means I just cannot pronounce many thai words, I'm 100% sure I'm repeating what they are saying to me but apparently not.
