Question. I used to take oxycodone 15mg, 1- 1/2 a day (I would break them into quarters), for a couple of months....to stop taking them and avoid any withdrawal (which I'm actually thinking I didn't need to be too concerned with), I started taking pieces of suboxone this past Saturday. Now I'm sick, and the dr prescribed me tussinex (which we all know is liquid vicodin, and some other cough med)...the last dose of suboxone that I took was about 12 hours ago, and it wasn't even a half of 8mg sub...it is safe for me to take the tussinex? I don't want to get sick from it, but this cough is KILLING me!!
I do have to say that I only waited 12 hours from the last oxycodone does, till the first suboxone dose and I was fine....anyone? anyone??

I had taken more pain pills in the past, not that many, like maybe 3 or 4 a day and when I weened down to 1, I still had withdrawal symptoms. I was just trying to avoid them all together. At any rate, I checked what I took 12 hours ago, and it was probably like a quarter of the sub...think it's ok to take the tussinex?

I'm sorry, I don't know. I've never used sub. However, in future for such low dose abuse I would just taper down the oxy than use sub, just my opinion. I don't think there is any such thing as getting through it without any withdrawals. Life just isn't that easy!

I honestly don't think I probably would have being that it was such a low dose, but I have a 2 year old that demands my attention, so I thought I'd give it a try...thanks.

You've got it backwards cc...it's safe
you should stop taking bupe' though....
Edit: It should still help the cough alot, not as well as w/o the bupe'

^ I think they are afraid that the suboxone will block the hydrocodone.

4mg of suboxone is gonna block other opiates pretty well for at least 24 hours. I don't see how you are sick 12 hours after taking 4mg of suboxone. Hydrocodone won't do much for you since you raised your tolerance by taking those doses of suboxone.

thanks everyone....I guess I confused some. I'm sick, like I have a sinus infection sick, not sick from withdrawals. I only took a quarter of a 4mg sub about 14 hours ago. I just wanted to make sure if I took the tussinex, it would A. work and B. not make me sick. I'm thinking since it was such a low dose of sub, I should be fine.

I've only taken 1 and a quarter of the 4mg sub since Saturday. So, I really only took them 1/2 Saturday, 1/2 Sunday, and less then a quarter yesterday, about 15 hours ago. You still think it will block the tussinex?

It won't make you sick. But it might be less effective.

Edit: In future though, I would advise not doing the sub, you're just needlessly pushing up your tolerance.

if you took a quarter of a 4mg sub, you took 1mg. which for bupe, isn't that low of a dose.

update: took the tussinex, it's working, barely....guess the subs are pretty powerful, hopefully with my next dose of tussinex will be more powerful!
